Dreamgirls, Blood Diamond, and Apocalypto.

Jake has good taste.

I've seen better. Wink

But I've seen worse a lot more often, so not bad.

Has anyone seen Paris Je T'aime? I saw that yesterday. I really liked it, even though the concept doesn't allow too much depth.

The Good Shephard.

BTW, has anyone here seen 'Letters from Iwo Jima'? I haven't yet found a movie theater near here that is showing it.

The last king of Scotland. Impressive performances by all the main cast, especially Forest Whittaker who basically owns all in his performance as mad genodical dictator Idi Amin. My only real complaint here would be the last 30 minutes (and the "Abortion" subplot) some would detract from Realism, before that the situation seemed somewhat plausible.

Pan's Labyrinth.  Definitely liked it, but not quite as much as I was expecting, given all the rave reviews.

Pan's Labyrinth as well. The theater was packed, but I spent a good deal of the time cringing at at the caricaturization, which only in retrospect seems self-conscious, and the predictability of a few of the scenes. Leaving the theater I thought it was more of a 85, rather than a 98, which it got on Tomatometer. It's grown on me in the past couple days though.

What's Eating Gilbert Grape?

Technically doesn't count as I've seen it before - but that was over ten years ago. I wasn't even aware that Di Caprio is in it.

I saw an ad for it, and there was Idi Amin (already identified as such), and I sort of went "Wait - that's Forrest Whittaker!"

Di Caprio was in it? I've seen it prolly 2-3 times but that was before Di Caprio became famous.

I saw The Pursuit of Happyness the other day.  It was really good; I think it was the best job I've seen from Will Smith to date.

No, actually, it's spelled "happyness" in the title.  It's a reference to the daycare the main character sends his son to in the movie.  To illustrate how poor the neighborhood is, the word "happiness" in their version of the Declaration of Independence was misspelled, but no one wants to bother to get it fixed.

The movie is based on a true story, in which this actually was the case.

The last film I saw was Pan's Labyrinth - I've seen it twice now, and thought it was absolutely breathtaking both times Smiley

Speaking of movies, I'm really upset that Basic Instinct 2 wasn't nominated for any Oscars...it was the best cinema experience I had in 2006! Totally immense fiilm - as long as you watch it as a comedy... Cheesy

I read that for grade 12 English.  Good book, though I hated the ending.  Never knew it was made into a movie.

You hated the ending?!?!? That part was awesome (unless it's different from the book, which I have to read), I loved the twist.

The film is quite good and Richard Burton (who would've been a great OO7 in his time) is fantastic...

Not all of it.  I do agree that the twist was interesting.  I'm more talking about the very very end where they fail to get away and such.  I thought that was kinda dumb.

Are you sure he didn't mean the film 'Happiness'?  That was a great movie - I'll never forget the part where Philip Seymour Hoffman comes on the wall.

Babel
Certainly very engaging, but if there was a central them (beyond possibly misunderstanding) then I missed it. The film was probably too long, and could have been editted down quite a bot but nonetheless worth watching.

The Last King of Scotland
Good, but not as fantastic as most of the reviews have made out. Fascinating portrayal of Amin, the lead performances are good. This is also worth looking out for.
