I haven't seen this one, but I really enjoyed Woman Under the Influence and the one about murdering a Chinese bookmaker. Cassavetes is pretty cool. Have you seen other stuff by him and if so, how did this compare?

Actually this was my first Cassavetes but as I've managed to obtain (thank you Cork Public Library System) a DVD box-set of five of his films (I'm watching them in chronological order), I will be sure to give you my thoughts on them in the future.

Ha, I got hold of my Cassavetes the same way.

Faces (1968)

Brilliant; still swimming around my mind (It might take a while before I come up with a more detailled judgement). Before watching this, I never would have thought you could scream while watching a non-horror film "in a good way". I can't help reflect though if this film was made now, the characters would pad their solliquoys full of pseudo-psychological "insights". But this is great though perhaps at times suffers from what might be termed "over-realism". Not for the faint hearted though.

A made-for-TV movie - James Dean.  James Franco (in one of his early roles) played him very well. Incredibly sexy too. Wink

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Most of the negative reviews are stupid. It had a bit of a pacing problem though and basically glossed over Lincoln's rise in politics, admittedly the story is kind of tricky to just cram into 2 hours. Action sequences were very original and well done though, especially the fight with the vampire in the herd of horses.

The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant (1972)

Has anyone else here ever seen this? What did they think?

I LOVE this movie.  Fassbinder is one of my favorite directors of all time.

Recently I saw a film, I remember wanting to mention it on here, but now I've forgotten what it was.. I will try to remember and get back.

Oh yes, the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the american version. Pretty good.

The Dictator

It might not be much intellectually challenging, but I laughed hard several times.

I just got back from Ted.  It was a decent.  Of course, if you're a MacFarlane fan you'll like it.

The reviews I read that didn't like it said Seth relied too much on pop culture jokes, but frankly I didn't think he used them enough.  Almost every joke lands, but there weren't as many as I expect in a comedy.  Come to think of it, Wahlberg and Kunis stop making jokes about halfway through and Ted becomes the only source of humor.  It was really weird and made it kind of boring whenever Ted wasn't on screen.

Still, I liked it.

The Wise Kids. A fairly recent but obscure movie about a church in the South whose young members are having a number of personal issues. I didn't think much to it at first but it improved as it went along.

The Amazing Spider-Man

Mostly good. It did drag at times. Solid performances from the two leads. Somewhat goofy villain. I enjoyed it more than the Raimi movies (with the possible exception of the second one).

Moonrise Kingdom

After my first viewing, I'm convinced that it's Wes Anderson's best film.

Finally got to watch Up. Truly beautiful film, so simple and at the same time so strong in feelings.

I saw it today, too, and I agree.  I think it's everything he's tried to accomplish in most of his other movies but with a story that actually flows.  It had all the familiar Anderson elements but it seem less forced... well, except for the overuse of the zoom out into draw background thing he loves to do.

Same. For whatever reason it seemed a lot more real than the first Spiderman movies. It didn't seem like it was trying too hard.

Also, the chemistry between all the actors was fantastic. Huge props to the dude playing the uncle.

Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D

It was my first time seeing a 3D movie, and I liked the effects but they could have done more impressive with that. Otherwise, decent movie for such a type of film.

Yeah, Martin Sheen tends to be awesome.
