In the early summer, Perot actually led both Clinton and Bush in the polls, albeit with under 40%. If there was a map of where he led, where Bush led, and where Clinton led, what would it look like? I could imagine states like AR, MD, and MA going for Clinton while maybe MT went for Perot and VA going to Bush, but what about the other states?

I know a newspaper in June 1992 reported that Clinton only led in Arkansas and Washington DC.

Here’s a story from May 7th, that mentions these polls:

https://www.nytimes.com/1992/05/07/us/the-1992-campaign-perot-ahead-of-bush-and-clinton-in-2-polls.html

California (poll conducted April 30 - May 4):
Perot 38%
Bush 32%
Clinton 20%

Colorado (poll conducted April 24-May 3):
Perot 35%
Bush 30%
Clinton 16%

Then here’s a California poll conducted May 16-19:

https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1992-05-21-mn-330-story.html

Perot 39%
Clinton 26%
Bush 25%

Texas poll from April (conducted April 9-18):

Perot 35%
Bush 30%
Clinton 20%

Also, there was some talk at the time that Perot might *help* Clinton in some of the black-heavy states in the South, since a larger share of white voters in the South would peel away to Perot than would black voters, who'd presumably stick with Clinton....thus creating an outside chance of Clinton getting a plurality victory in some Southern states that would otherwise be difficult for a Democrat to win.
