Abolishing the morality police could be HUGE but I suspect it'll be either completely fake or amount it just renaming them.

It’s just like the referendum in Minneapolis in both renaming it, diverting its focus towards other forces, and being empty promises used to get people to believe in it and let liberal activists feel good about themselves and tell everyone to pack up shop and go home.

Yeah, the more common (though still dubious) claim is that Islam is at root a Christian heresy.

It seemed pretty obvious to me from reading the Quran that its primary theological influences were rabbinic Judaism and non-Nicene folk Christianity, both of which had a notable presence in pre-Islamic Arabia.

Khomeini and his successor as "Supreme Leader" were and are morally bankrupt. You can easily imagine both of them trawling the dark web.

All religion is unscientific nonsense in my eyes so these two people are using nonsense as a basis to hurt people. Both of them are •••••••••
Ayatollah Khomeini and Ayatollah Khamenei are a lot more morally strong than the Shah, who pretty much turned Iran into a country that included the worst elements of Nazi Germany, the US, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the Arab Gulf “Sheikdoms.” Iran was a vassal state of the US and Israel from the 1950s until the Iranian Revolution and had the worst human rights record in the world as per Freedom House and Amnesty International reports from 1972-1978.

Under the Ayatollahs, it's been Gilead for so long it inspired the original novel.

Two women in Iran have been arrested after being attacked by a man who threw yoghurt at them.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-65150135

Their hair was not covered in the video. The man protested they were not wearing their head covering, the hijab, at the time.

No Hijab

https://youtu.be/SYAIkbWXqqg

The yoghurt was a popular Greek Style natural variety.

Iran Captures Oil Tanker in Gulf of Oman.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-04-28/marshall-islands-flagged-oil-tanker-seized-by-iran-us-navy/102275778

The Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker is owned by a Chinese company and crewed by Indians. (Reuters: Yoruk Isik)

The vessel's manager, a Turkish firm called Advantage Tankers, issued a statement acknowledging the Advantage Sweet was "being escorted by the Iranian navy to a port on the basis of an international dispute".

All the ship's 24 crew members are Indian.

The Morality Police are back.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-07-16/iran-s-morality-police-return-to-streets/102608490

"The morality police had largely pulled back following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini last September, as authorities struggled to contain mass protests calling for the overthrow of the theocracy that has ruled Iran for over four decades."

Good they they are back. Hopefully they can restore some order and stop the indoctrination and brainwashing of young Iranian women by the US, Israel, and the Sunni Arab countries.

Iran's morality Police involved in beating a teenage girl:

https://www.sbs.com.au/news/video/irans-morality-police-accused-of-beating-teen/d99b37m3e

Instagram shows a lot of Iranians listening to music and adopting Western culture, so I was surprised to see this woman getting bashed for not wearing the hijab.

Unless the economy goes back to tanking, itself being very unlikely, or someone gets murdered I can safely say that the wave of open revolt from the end of JCPOA to the pre-revolution last year is practically done. The borders are now fully secured and most people have to get on with living their lives as the security forces cracked down on the opposition and have basically made security forces much more visible to scare the public.

The death of Mahsa Amini will not go in vain, eventually the regime will slip up and fall once the economic condition of China slows to a halt sometime in the 2030s. Meanwhile there’s been a bloom in real unions in the country and strong strikes to get people their fair share.

Iran in the 1970's

I must admit I was mot aware that Iran were killin' it in the 1970's.

They could have become a success story like Australia.

If everything was good in 1970s Iran, then the revolution would never have happened.

two things
1."everything was good" has never been true anywhere, that's an impossible bar to reach
2.many revolutions have lead to a worse situation than before, Iran is an obvious example

1) was not meant literally, and 2) is a truism that nobody would deny.

The fact remains though, the Iranian revolution in 1979 succeeded - and a major reason for that was its having the support of maybe three quarters of the population (if not more) How could it ever have been the case if the situation there was a rosy one overall?
