Canada has been between "mediocre" and "good", but the federal and many provincial governments seem.VERY hesitant to order a mandatory Shelter In Place. Based on the amount of idiots I am seeing out and about now that the weather is warmer this week, this is a BIG BIG mistake.

The slowdown here in new cases to just 3-5% per day is very encouraging, considering how strongly nearby Italy is ravaged.

Also, more importantly, deaths are not spiralling out of control here - which allows us to treat some patients from Italy and France.

If the public does their fair share too in the coming weeks, we could get this under control of some sorts and prevent out-of-control situations like in Italy, Spain or the US.

Egypt's response has apparently been uniquely bad, with medical staff simply abandoning covid patients in order to avoid contracting it.

Apparently the Vietnamese response has been good as well, what with low official cases and no official deaths, with heavy testing in probable hotspots.

Sweden seems to be a trainwreck, especially compared to Norway and Finland.

That’s what happens when you don’t enforce social distancing.

It is very difficult to rate the actual response within Chinese borders because it is very difficult to trust the information they have provided to WHO and the rest of the world. Human Rights Watch and other international watchdogs believe that their death toll is much higher than they are reporting.

Of course, the lack of transparency in itself should earn them heavy condemnation and criticism.

I'll go with...

BEST: South Korea, Germany, Singapore, Taiwan
WORST: Iran, Italy, USA, UK, Spain

France gets an honorable mention as bad but not worst.

Here's a pretty detailed analysis of individual countries' reponses:

https://www.dkv.global/covid

Israel comes in first, then Germany followed by South Korea.

Update for post-USSR: Ukraine and Belorussia - total disaster, Turkmenistan - not a lot of info, but probably too.  Baltic countries and Kazakhstan - very good.

Didn't Turkmenistan actually ban mentioning the virus?

No, but they reported 0 cases (as fellow DPRK, but i would assume Turkmenistan bureaucracy and healthcare system are even worse)

I thought they actually claimed to be "banning" it per se? Smiley

I think some credit should be given to Portugal and Greece, both of which have largely avoided the fates of even more prosperous EU countries despite incredibly aged populations and hollowed out economies.

Did they poll Chile? Local polls have approval of president's handling of the crisis at 28%
