For what's worth, I think a flat x$ tax, possibly adjusted for inflation, might be better for a tobacco tax than a % tax.

In fact a 90% tax might be lower than the current taxes.

I would like to hear more about this, if possible. I know taxes on nicotine products are usually done by weight, if I'm not mistaken.

Good to know that the Lincoln version of this bill is still called the Frémont Nicotine Tax Act. This will hopefully make the transition into a Frémont-controlled puppet region in Lincoln a teensy bit easier.

Nice work copying the terrible garbage bill everyone in Parliament hated, rather than the more sensible amended version we are currently passing!

Section 1 (Title)

i. The title of this Act shall be, the "Frémont Nicotine Tax."

Section 2 (What classifies as an item with Nicotine)

i. Vapes, Cigarettes, Chewing Tobacco, and Roll Your Owns

Section 3  (Taxes)

i. There will be a 90% 40% tax on all of the products covered in Section 2.
ii. In addition, electronic cigarettes, nicotine gum, patches, and other cigarette alternatives will be taxed at a 40% rate unless the buyer is a current smoker trying to quit. Section 4 (When will the Tax be Applied)

i. This bill will take effect on August 1st, 2020 if passed.
Offering the following draft amendment.
How's this?

Because you're still too lazy to actually copy the version that isn't nonsense that the Parliament is actually trying to enact.

Hey ASV, do you have to be such a dick when you offer suggestions? You could either offer more constructive criticism and arguments therein or you could go back to your own region's business instead of butting into ours.

*pops in from Fremont*

Isn't 70% still a bit high? We did 40%, and even that's a big jump over the ~15-20% it's at today.

That said, we may lift your language ennumerating what counts as e-cigs since that's pretty nice.

The tax rate, even as amended, is far too high for me to support.

Then why not sponsor an amendment to bring this bill into line with the amended Fremont version, bringing the rate down to a less meteoric 40%.

Proposing an amendment to appease our friends from the West, though I believe we can have a slightly higher tax rate:

Quote
An Act

To increase taxes on tobacco products and electronic nicotine delivery systems.
Quote
Section 1. Short title

This Act shall be cited as the “Nicotine Product Tax Act".

Section 2. Tax imposition

(a) In general. —

An excise tax is hereby imposed and assessed upon the sale or possession of tobacco products or electronic nicotine delivery systems within this Region at the rate of 70% 50% per product.

(b) Definitions. —

As used in Act—
(1) the term "tobacco product" shall mean cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, roll-your-own products, and smokeless tobacco; and
(2) the term "electronic nicotine delivery system" shall mean—
Quote
(A) any device, such as an e-cigarette, e-hookah, e-cigar, vape pen, or electronic pipe, which provides a vapor of nicotine or any other substance and the use or inhalation of which simulates smoking; or
(B) any liquid or substance placed in or sold for use in an electronic nicotine delivery system, or any other component, part, or accessory of such device.

Section 3. Effective date

This Act shall take effect immediately on the date of the enactment of this Act.
