An Ulm avatar is inevitable perhaps.

Or a Riga one.

As a years-long community member, I would kindly like to petition for the inclusion of a Banat avatar.

Please don't forget about Banat like the rest of the world did Sad

I'm pleasantly surprised we haven't yet had a Blaxican avatar submitted or requested.

Updated the member registration page to use reCAPTCHA 2.0, as well as the security question. CAPTCHA had broken years ago and was never fixed, which resulted in a substantial rise of bot registrations. The other anti-spam features mostly stopped them but occasionally one gets through and keeps us up to date on the latest trends in boner pills and what not. Let's see if this stops that.

Is there any chance we can shrink the new avatars (the ones of real countries we're going to use) to keep them properly sized? It seems like every new iteration just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Honestly, all the complaining over this very small change has sucked the interest and fun out of it for me. I'll upload a few more from those posted so far, but that's it. If you had any in the works, my apologies.

Thanks Alex / Lourdes / Koopa - uploaded new avatars

Alex - I uploaded Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and the others you did except Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia, because they are too big. I'd like to keep it less than or equal to 100px in width. Need to go back at some point and try to shrink some of the other ones as well. I tried setting a max width for the avatar image, which works, but it causes the big avatars to become a little less defined / blurry due to less-than-ideal rendering for the smaller image.

reagente - I'll upload Chad tomorrow

(just catching up on old submissions - not doing new ones)

As requested, here's Chicago.  With this and the NYC and LA avatars, that's the three largest US cities.  I'm not sure if we should add any more cities, because we could make over a hundred of them.

Chicago and LA have weirdly un-iconic shapes for how important they are. If this weren't labeled, I probably wouldn't be able to tell you what city it was.

Out of curiosity, what is the near-exclave on the NW end?

I was wondering that myself.  That's O'Hare, Chicago and is a transportation hub that contains a major airport.

By the looks of it, it was one of Trump's best areas of Chicago in 2016.

Scott, can you reduce the width of those to no wider than 100px (they are currently 120px)?

Crumpets, you magnificent bastard! Finally, the more obscure countries of the former USSR are getting their say!

Still hoping and praying for (real) Georgia, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan.

When I do, they come out fuzzy and distorted.  I might have to redo these if they can't fit.  Sad

Just like I opposed the historical avatars I also oppose city avatars (as Scott himself said, there could be hundreds). And I don't think "just the main 3" is a good cutoff, it is very arbitrary.

I am of the opinion we should have only US states, US territories (so if anyone wants to draw a Puerto Rico avatar, feel free), UK/Canadian regions and provinces; and actual countries.

Still this is less bad than the historical ones, at least these ones are actual places.

Cities are actual places. A majority of America lives in or around them.

Whoops I meant it the other way around Tongue (as in cities > Historical stuff; nobody lives in the USSR, at least not anymore)

The fact is, for as long as I've been on the forum, many users have not used avatars to actually describe where they live. In some cases, it's just a way to help them with a meme persona, or to express a culture they identify with, or some other random reason. Even I used DC as an avatar to express my perpetual disgust with Florida (I used to live in DC), and now with Russia since that is where one of my parents is from. Unless you force people to use only avatars that represent where they live, the whole thing is pointless to try and regulate.

Overall it would just be nice if everything could stop being so serious and we could all just have some fun with this. I'm not removing the historical avatars absent some sort of major consensus from the community.

#ThatFeeling when you see a Prussian avatar

Is it anything like the feeling you get when you see a Soviet avatar?

I love that anthem.

At least with Chicago and NYC, the cities themselves are the cultural mainstays of the states that contain them.  I'm iffy about LA (and I didn't create those - I'm not sure who did), but I think the other two are significant and distinct enough to justify them having their own avatars.
