People eat weird things all over the world but China obviously needs to regulate this stuff better.

What a real crisis bump looks like:

Well deserved for Cuomo. He's probably in the fight of his political life and doing an excellent job so far.

JUNE???
The public might get angry about it, but it's a needed move. Maybe they should've said May and then later on announced an extension until Jume, to keep citizens from going crazy and rebelling.

He literally just said it was still ok to go to golf courses ... guess thats essential.

I think it is essential people get out and get some fresh air. As long as one can do that while keeping at least 6 feet from anyone who doesn't live with you, I don't see a problem with that. I would shut down golf courses though...but keep parks open.

Being alone outside in a field or just outside alone might be the safest way to go outside. I still try to go outside when I can.

The updated numbers for COVID-19 in the U.S. are in for 3/29 per: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

I'll be keeping track of these updates daily and updating at the end of the day, whenever all states finish reporting for that day. The percentages represent the daily increase from the last report.

3/26:
  • Cases: 85,390
  • Deaths: ±1,200

3/27:
  • Cases: 103,798 (+18,408 | ↑21.56%)
  • Deaths: 1,693 (+493 | ↑41.03%)

3/28 (Yesterday):
  • Cases: 123,428 (+19,630 | ↑18.91%)
  • Deaths: 2,211 (+518 | ↑30.60%)

3/29 (Today):
  • Cases: 142,178 (+18,750 | ↑15.20%)
  • Deaths: 2,484 (+273 | ↑12.35%)
Death toll down massively yesterday. Not quite sure what to make of this. Hopefully it is a sign of better things ahead, but honestly, the daily death toll isn't "supposed" to culminate yet, let alone fall.

As a terrible FYI, today is going to be terrible on both ends. We're looking at 700++ deaths in one day...

As I wrote before, cfr should be about the same in most western countries, which suggests that Italy already has 1-2 mln cases and US 0.5-1 mln.

That would suggest that Lombardy has already reached ~10-20%.

According to this study, ~10% of Italy population is already infected which would probably translate into ~30% in Lombardy, I suppose.

For Spain it is 15%. Unfortunately, they didn't estimate US #.

If it's true, then I think, that the real CFR is way under 1%, perhaps ~0.1-0.5% Huh

The caveat is similar to all the studies of Corona. Uncertainty is huge due to various assumption and lack of data.

Imperial College models are based on a 1% IFR, so trying to claim the "real CFR" is below 1 based on this is wrong.

That being said, the fact the IFR is 1% makes it fairly pessimistic since other places have IFRs well below that.

That Siena poll has de Blaise with a 61% approval rating in NYC.

The second most undeserved rally around the leader poll bump in the country.

Accounting for the city's partisanship it is really a quite horrendous rating. It would be like if Trump had a -35 approval on handling the virus.

And yet he doesn't close the beaches statewide.

Given that Florida has surged past Louisiana in positives, can he close the highways for people coming out of the state?

Just got back from the doctor.  Fortunately, it's only about a twenty minute walk.  Was the only patient at the office; all of the nurses (and my doctor) were wearing gloves and masks.

He ordered a test based on my symptoms and the fact that I may have come into contact about ten days ago with someone who tested positive.  It consisted of a nasopharyngeal swab -- should have the results in 24-72 hours.  Was also told to immediately seek help if I start to have trouble breathing, my fever rises to or above 104*F (40*C), etc. etc.

If you don't mind telling us, what kind of contact did you have with the person who tested positive? Was it something that felt risky at the time, or are you surprised that you could have gotten it from them?

Oh it was my roommate's stupid recent-ex-boyfriend.  He thought it would be a brilliant idea to stop by and try to work things out with her, but she had already travelled home to Montana.

Long story short, I had to be the one to explain that to him.  He had a cough but I didn't think anything of it at the time. Roommate texted me early this morning saying he had tested positive on Friday.

And that's what happened on this week's episode of Dawson's Creek.

These press conferences are just slowly turning into MAGA rallies, like he spoke about abortions today and the MyPillow guy basically told America to re-elect Trump and put God back in schools

Every State with over 1,000 cases should close their highways to non-essential travel (with exceptions for border communities) but that doesn’t change the fact that DeSantis is an incompetent buffoon and has failed miserably with his “response”.

This is the start of the “second wave” of Covid in America. Mid-size cities are going to be pummeled over these next few weeks. Detroit and Boston are just the start. Atlanta, Washington DC, Nashville, Charlotte, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Denver, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas and Phoenix are all going to experience some form of an outbreak imo. The cities that aren’t completely under a stay-at-home order (including their suburbs) are going to be more hit than the others.

I thought I'd add this in, just to kill a right-wing talking point:

US coronavirus death rate is far higher than that of the flu
