Portrait of Kamala Harris of California

San Francisco, CA

Hello San Francisco,

We have seen first hand the disaster that a Republican presidency can be. We know what will happen if the Republicans win this election. Donald Trump separated families at the border. Donald Trump gave a tax cut to the wealthy and left the working class with little. Donald Trump attacked a women's right to choose. In fact, Donald Trump appointed justices who struck down Roe and left millions of women without reproductive care. Donald Trump sided with the NRA over hard-working Americans. Then, fortunately 4 years ago, we tossed out Donald Trump. However, Republican reactionaries on the court still blocked much of the Democratic agenda. We need a new vision for America. I know this nation and we are so much better than this. I will fight for real action on the climate crisis. As a former prosecutor, I believe what the fossil fuel companies have been doing is criminal, I will hold them accountable. I also recognize the need for us to give better healthcare to Americans. Donald Trump has attacked the Affordable Care Act, time and time again and he has taken away the healthcare of millions of Americans. We need someone who can fight for women's rights. Our party needs to recognize that a vote for Republicans is a vote to return to the Donald Trump disaster. We need someone who can move us forward like the Biden presidency did. We need someone who can continue to move this nation in the direction of progress that Joe Biden did. I believe I am that candidate! Thank you!

"Fiorina To Rearrange Field Staff Away From Iowa"
October 31st, 2023

Politico- Last night in a team meeting in her Des Moines field office, Carly Fiorina announced to her staff that only four staffers will remain on the ground in Iowa through the caucuses. The staff remaining in Iowa will be the state director, state communication director and two field staff. All other field staff will be split between Nevada and New Hampshire. Fiorina's campaign ha strongly invested in an organization in both those states which is one way she is trying to fix errors of her 2016 campaign which had little organization to build on the momentum.

Ms. Fiorina hopes that it will be a blood bath coming out of Iowa that she will mainly stay out of. The goal in the state for her according to her campaign advisors is to once again "win around five percent and a delegate". With a strong presence in the state by Senator Rick Scott, Ambassador Nikki Haley, and Donald Trump Jr., the campaign hopes it will send a mix message to future states like in 2020 and then in New Hampshire, Carly Fiorina can have a strong second or a first-place finish then replicate that to a first-place finish out west in Nevada.

After New Hampshire and Nevada, Fiorina's campaign is laying out groundwork to perform very well in Super Tuesday and has already announced heavy investments in both Texas and California which includes multiple trips to states largely ignored till after South Carolina. After momentum coming out of the early stages, she hopes she can win those two states and other western states that she has visited multiple times.

Campaign advisors did not respond to reports that the campaign plans to remove all staffers from South Carolina and Wisconsin but she is planning staff meetings next week in both states.

EXCLUSIVE: Kirsten Gillibrand Interview
by: Politico Editorial Board

POLITICO: You have one of the better pedigrees of the candidates in the race - an energetic, experienced progressive woman. Yet, your campaign in 2020 failed pretty miserably. What mistakes do you think you made, and how will you avoid replicating them this year?

KG: 2020 was a tough year to run, as it was a crowded field with new rules for qualifying for debates, and we had to get my name recognition up. When I dropped out, I said it was important to know when it’s not your time, and unfortunately that year it wasn’t. However, we’re already seeing something different this year.

This year, we don’t have a president that sucks all of the oxygen out of the room, leaving space for real, impassioned policy discussions within the party. That’s where I intend on leading, I’ve already got plans for government transparency, paid family leave, and for protecting reproductive rights. This isn’t where we’re stopping either, and I fully intend on pushing forward the conversation on cancelling student loan debt, ending the revolving door between politics and lobbying, and getting dark money out of our politics.

POLITICO: It's been fairly well-covered that you were a relatively conservative Democrat during your time in the House before 2008. How do you reconcile this with your political positions today, and should the American people be concerned about the volatility of your ideology?

KG: The truth is, I listened and I learned, and I think more people could stand to do the same. When I was in the House, I was in a bit of a bubble, our district wasn’t as diverse as the state, and was significantly more rural.  When I was appointed to the senate, the first thing I did was hold several town halls where I just listened to people’s concerns. When I realized the hurt I had caused by not being informed, I knew I needed to change. I’m not afraid to say I was wrong and that I learned when I listened to everyday people with experiences different than my own. But, I haven’t sold out my values, I still believe in Medicare for All like when I first ran for the House, I still believe in protecting LGBTQ rights, and I still believe in fighting for paid family leave. Any change I’ve made over my career in public service has been inspired by learning, and my values remain consistent.

POLITICO: With the SPLC v. Marshall ruling and the failure of the Green New Deal, progressive Democrats have been dealt a series of body blows. How will you lead the liberal wing of your party out of this malaise?

KG: First of all, I’d like to address the SPLC v. Marshall ruling. This is a dangerous precedent for the court to rule against itself in a way that is more restrictive. We’ve heard from Republicans that progress like same sex marriage is a settled issue, yet they said the same about Roe and look at where we’re at. We can’t let the next President be someone who packs the court with conservative, partisan justices who do not represent the views of everyday people.

My plan to lead is to be a thought leader for progressives, and it’s why I’m so happy to have Elizabeth and Pramila’s endorsements and participation in this campaign. These two women are real policy leaders in the progressive movement, and their advice has already gone into some of my policy plans and I will continue to consult them when drafting these plans. My faith calls for me to not grow weary, and I don’t intend on giving up this fight for progress, and I know that Americans agree.

POLITICO: What will the first 100 days of the Gillibrand administration look like?

KG: The focus of my first 100 days will be to overturn some of these egregious Supreme Court rulings, enshrining reproductive rights federally and overturning Citizen’s United. We have to tackle these overreaches before we can even dream of getting anything else done.

The next move of my administration will be to finally pass paid family leave, which would bring our workforce into the modern era and help reduce the wage gap. Then, I will call on Congress to pass common sense regulations on guns, including a federal licensing and background check program that will keep us safer. Finally, I think any candidate running for the Democratic Party’s nomination should commit to acting on climate change within her first 100 days as President. I would commit to action on climate change now, passing a Green New Deal and getting us to net-zero carbon emissions by 2030. This is our generation’s walk on the moon, something that requires big, bold ideas to get us to a brighter future.

Carly For America Advertisment #1
Beating the Odds
Airing in Media suburban markets in Nevada, New Hampshire, California, Texas, Utah

Carly Fiorina- I have always believed that America is too exponential for small dreams and that if you work hard then you will beat the odds. That is what I tell everyone on the campaign trail to do, dream big because if you work hard then you can anything and I am proud to be living proof of that in my own little American dream story. I grew up in a small town, I wasn't born rich or famous and I started as a secretary in a small firm. I dreamed big and I worked hard, that is why I was able to climb up the ladder to become one of the first female CEOs in the fortune 500. Then breast cancer tried to break me down and I once again beat the odds to beat breast cancer. Now, I am running for president of the United States of America and I am ready to beat the odds again and become the first female president. As president, I will make sure that every American will have a shot at the American dream and I will make sure that America remains the best country in the world. I am Carly Fiorina, I have beaten the odds and I am ready to make sure every American can beat the odds!

ROY COOPER FOR AMERICA ANNOUNCEMENT SPEECH

https://www.commondreams.org/sites/default/files/styles/cd_large/public/headlines/cooper.jpg?itok=1HQYfMNd
Raleigh, North Carolina: Governor Roy Cooper took to the stage today to make a special announcement. He will be seeking the 2024 democratic nomination. Arriving to a packed crowd, the Governor walked out to the state to the song “Born in the USA” by Bruce Springsteen. The crowd went crazy when he appeared. He started off shaking hands and giving autographs, then he took to the podium to give a speech.
“My fellow North Carolinians, my fellow Americans, thank you for being here. President Biden, over the past four years has undone much of the damage Donald Trump did. Not only that, we have made tremendous progress. But we cannot let it end there. We must unite as a country, to continue pushing reforms for every American, and attempt to benefit all of them. Sixteen years ago, A young man stood at a podium, doing a very similar thing that I am doing. This young man spoke of hope, and change, which we needed. This young man was Barack Obama!
*crowd cheers* the Republican Party, has, for years, attempted to shut down the rights of all people. Attempting to infringe on what it means to be a Democratic society. Four years ago, President Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump, proving that we were sick of it.
*cheers*
My fellow Americans. I am standing here today, in the great state of North Carolina that I love so much, to announce that I am seeking the democratic nomination for President of the United States!
*crowd goes crazy*
Thank you! Thank you! I’m calling on all Americans. Rich or poor, gay or straight, White, African-American, Latino, Asian-American, young or old, to join me, to unite behind this campaign, and to continue the progress  that President Joe Biden has made these past four years. God bless the USA!”

April 4, 2023:

Sen. Rick Scott's (R-FL) Announcement speech in St. Petersburg, FL attracts an estimated crowd size of nearly 12,725

(He steps onto the stage, surrounded by close family members)

Ladies and gentlemen, thank you! Thank you, it truly is great to be at home among all of you again today.

*cheers emanate up from the crowd*

And most of all, thank you to Senator Rubio and Governor de Santis for their support, as well as the absolute warmest of introductions. Both of you have made an indelible imprint and unforgettable legacy while working to change Florida for the better over the past many years. Thank you for your tireless work on behalf of this great state and every American who's quickly getting behind our campaign effort!

It is my firm belief that in these turbulent times, we will need a steady hand as Commander in Chief to steer our great nation through troubling waters and return to an America of which we can all be proud. As governor and senator from the great state of Florida, I have a proven track record of appealing across the aisle and uniting both parties around common-sense bipartisan legislation.

In the Senate, I worked closely with President Trump to deliver much-needed tax relief to middle-class families and workers struggling to pay off their bills. I played a major role in co-authoring and sponsoring the popular criminal reform legislation, as well as protecting all Americans' second-amendment rights. Together with Senate Majority Leader, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and others, we effectively cracked down on the caravan of illegal migrants entering this country, while cutting red tape for small businesses to grow and encourage further entrepreneurship.

For too long in this country we have suffered under the shambolic leadership with a bumbling maniac of President Biden, whose age is showing more than ever. Our great nation has reached a crossroads, and the decision we make on which way to move forward will define our future for generations to come and even beyond. Will we turn permanently down this hard-left path of creating a socialist government which stymies all that has made our country great, or embrace a vision of innovation and collaboration going forward?

So it is with great enthusiasm, and boundless optimism for the years to come, that I officially announce my run to be YOUR next President! [applause] But I also understand that will take much hard work, an experienced leader, knowledge and connections, and most of all good policy, to match our highest of hopes.

With my extensive experience both in government as well as the private sector, I believe I am the best prepared and equipped to lead America into its new dawn: defending America's interests abroad, protecting the free market and enterprise from bureaucratic encroachment, and better education for our kids and tomorrow's leaders.

So if you're ready to join this fight, visit rick2024.com and with your help together we will once again embrace all that made our unique country the greatest place to live in the world. The do-nothing swamp creatures in Washington, D.C. can finally learn their lesson: your time is up. And most of all, we will return American society to its most fundamental roots, while encouraging progress and an open, positive outlook that realizes our full potential. Folks, God bless you, and God bless the United States!

SPECIAL REPORT (MID-TURN UPDATE)

As the one-year mark to the critical 2024 presidential election approaches, candidates on both sides jostle for position in two crowded, unstable fields. On the Republican side, Donald Trump Jr. has taken an early lead over his rivals, riding on name recognition and President Donald Trump Sr.'s continued popularity within the GOP. Former Ambassador Nikki Haley (who sources indicate is reassessing her campaign), as well as businesswoman Carly Fiorina, are also running strong. On the Democratic side, Senator Kamala Harris has a slim lead nationally, with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand running in second thanks to a strong campaign launch and energetic progressive messaging. However, these leaders aren't the only candidates - as many Senators and Governors scramble to increase their national profile and rise in the polls. Speaking of polls, here's what they look like right now - though there's plenty of time left for the situation to change:

DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY
Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) 21%
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) 17%
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) 14%
Governor Roy Cooper (D-NC) 12%
Governor Jared Polis (D-CO) 11%

REPUBLICAN PRIMARY
Businessman Donald Trump Jr. (R-FL) 27%
Fmr. Ambassador Nikki Haley (R-SC) 18%
Businesswoman Carly Fiorina (R-CA) 12%
Governor Rick Scott (R-FL) 9%
Fmr. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) 7%
Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) 7%

Donald Trump Jr. releases tax plan which will cut taxes for middle and lower class Americans

In a move which represents the start of writing the campaign platform for the 2024 election, Donald Trump Jr. released today his tax plan which his campaign claims will be the biggest tax cut for ordinary Americans. The main policies proposed in The plan for Tax Relief and Simplification of Donald Trump Jr. are -

- Reduce the number of tax brackets from 7 to 3, as follows:

Married-joint filers:
Less than 75.000: 12%
75.000-225.000: 25%
Over 225.000: 33%
The brackets for single filers are half of these amounts.

This proposal would reduce taxes for low and middle-class Americans by anywhere between 25 and 40%, depending on the particularities of every family/person. The wealthy might see a very slight decrease in income taxes, however this will be offset by eliminating deductions and loopholes, as detailed below.

- The Capital Gains tax will be retained in its current structure, with a maximum rate of 20%, however the Wall Street carried interest loophole will be closed.

- The 3.8% Obamacare tax and the Alternative Minimum Tax will be repealed

- Deductions will be capped at 200.000 for Married-Joint filers or 100.000 for Single filers

- The standard deduction will be increased to 30.000 from 12.600 for Married-Joint filers and to 15.000 for Single filers. The personal exemptions as well as the head-of-household filing status will be eliminated.

- The death tax will be repealed, however capital gains held until death and worth over 10 million will be subject to a similar tax. To prevent abuse, contributions of appreciated assets into a private charity established by the decedent or the decedent’s relatives will be disallowed.

- The business tax rate will be lowered from 21% to 15%, and the corporate AMT will be eliminated too. The 15% rate, however, will only be available to businesses that wish to keep their profits within that business. The plan will also eliminate all corporate tax expenditures except for the Research and Development credit.

- Firms engaged in manufacturing in the US may elect to expense capital investment and lose the deductibility of corporate interest expense. An election once made can only be revoked within the first 3 years of election; if revoked, returns for prior years would need to be amended to show revised status. After 3 years, election is irrevocable.

THE DEBATES

Source: Creative Commons

Welcome, everyone, to the presidential debates for both parties! This is a national stage where the frontrunners must defend their positions and less known candidates can surge to the top with popular ideas and vigorous arguments. We at CNN (for Democrats) and Fox (for Republicans) are pleased to be hosting these events. The format for both debates is simple - all candidates will make opening and closing statements (where they can introduce themselves and make their cases for the nomination), and will answer some questions as well - both personal and group ones.

Democratic Debate

To ALL:  The Democrats are holding on to threadbare majorities in both Congressional houses, and face a daunting Senate map with multiple defensive struggles upcoming in Montana, Arizona, and Wisconsin, among others. How will you, as the leader of the ticket, ensure that Democrats can keep hold of the House and Senate in 2024 and beyond?

To ALL: The failure of the Green New Deal has reignited discussion within the Democratic Party as to how far Congress must go to combat climate change. We'd like you all to weigh in on this critical matter.

To Kamala Harris: You've become an early frontrunner, but more liberal elements in the party appear to be turned off by your candidacy, citing your history as a prosecutor and your more establishment politics. Prominent Rose Twitter commentators have threatened to vote third-party if you're nominated. How will you appeal to them in the primary and general?

To Kirsten Gillibrand: You've served as a Representative and Senator for New York for many years, but you haven't held an executive office yet. How will you be prepared to take on the challenges of the Presidency from Day 1?

To Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: You've been a fiery attacker of both the Democratic and Republican establishments, making many more centrist and independent voters fearful of what an AOC presidency may do to our nation's already tenuous unity. How will you ease these concerns?

To Roy Cooper: You've been a fairly popular governor of North Carolina over the past years. However, more of your actions have been blocking the moves of the overwhelmingly-Republican General Assembly rather than legislative initiaives, making it unclear how you will proceed on such liberal issues as President. Can you clarify how you'll use the office of the Presidency to continue Biden's legislative legacy, if at all?

To Jared Polis: If elected, you would be the first gay president in American history, a major landmark for the LGBTQ+ community. Does this have any effect on the mentality of your campaign as you seek your party's nomination?

Republican Debate
To ALL: The Supreme Court, as well as the U.S House, delivered two major victories for conservatives in recent days by rejecting the Green New Deal and Roe v. Wade abortion protections (overturning a 2022 federal law). Do you fully applaud these decisions, or do you believe that more nuance was required?

To ALL: Though it's been three years, the influence of the 45th President over the party still remains. Do you believe that Trumpism is a positive force for the party, and America as a whole?

To Donald J. Trump: How much will your father's financial acumen and visibility as a politician figure into your run, and what role is he taking in your campaign? Are you concerned that this may negatively impact the perception of you by the American public?

AND

Do you believe your conspiracy theories that you spread of twitter and other social media platforms undermined both your father's administration and Republicans in Washington work?"

To Nikki Haley: REDACTED until Nikki Haley player surfaces

To Carly Fiorina: Unlike your opponents, you've been willing to take a critical tone with President Trump's legacy. With 65% of the Republican Party approving of his job performance, how will you ensure that that doesn't take a toll on your campaign's popularity?

To Rick Scott: There has been consternation within your party that your run for the presidency is jeopardizing Republican ability to hold your seat in 2024, and Representative Stephanie Murphy has already announced her campaign. How will you address these concerns that your run could potentially kneecap Republican efforts to take the Senate, and how will you respond to the resulting attacks on your character?

To Rand Paul: Your dismissing attitude towards the COVID-19 pandemic and your resulting contraction of the coronavirus attracted much negative national attention in 2020. How will you provide better leadership as President?

To Tom Cotton: Your politics and campaign style are very similar to that of Donald Trump Sr., meaning that the voters that you appeal to may be going to Donald Trump Jr. instead. How will you combat this effect and emerge as a strong candidate in your own right?

Responses will be due on April 10th.

AOC debate answers part 1

1.Well people remember that I have helped with President Biden on many issues during his presidency like the public option and the infrastructure plans he has passed and as president I wanna improve on that and I think it’s a good start. Recent numbers have shown that Democrats and independents want to more forward for progressive ideas and have it as the mainstay of the party.

And I think I am the best candidate forward to move with those ideas I am not trying to fight with the Democratic Party and I just wanna fight for my children’s future,my grandchildren’s future and my great grandchildren’s futures and so on and so forth!

What AOC did part 1

Congresswoman Cortez campaigned in Iowa and New Hampshire on buliding a “green future” including plans to rebuild infrastructure and to make the economy more *eco friendly*.

She also talked about her plans for “responsible spending” and how she will reduce military spending and take that money and invest it social security once again infrastructure education and of course healthcare.
