Turn 1
Until October 31, 2023

News

Green New Deal shot down in House
In a major defeat to Democratic progressives, a Green New Deal bill was defeated 225-204 with Republicans united in opposition and 11 Democrats defecting. Minority Leader McCarthy, as well as the Republican Party organization, touted the vote as a rejection of 'radical socialism', while liberal Democrats and activists bemoaned the bill's failure. The White House has thus far remained mum on the issue, as President Biden's efforts to orchestrate a compromise a month ago were spurned by both Republicans and the bill's sponsors (Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Merkley). Our sources tell us that tensions are running high between the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the White House as a result of this vote, with many high-ranking CPC officials blaming White House inaction for crippling the bill's chances of passage (though several Democratic representatives had announced steadfast opposition to the bill from the start). In a joint statement to the press, the offices of Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Merkley stated that the bill's failure would only intensify the calls for comprehensive climate response, and urged climate activists to continue their work.

Supreme Court rules in SPLC vs. Marshall
In a stunning 5-4 decision this week, the Supreme Court has overturned major portions of the famous Roe v. Wade case by ruling mostly in favor of an Alabama statue baninng abortion procedures. In an opinion authored by Chief Justice Roberts, the Court held that abortion was a private affair during the first trimester, and held that states could not regulate first trimester abortions. However, the Court dramatically reversed itself by declaring that the State had a legitimate interest in protecting prenatal life after the first trimester, opening the way for conservative states to extend bans of abortion procedures. The ruling has sparked tremendous outcry, as well as protests in the cities of Seattle, Portland, Oakland, Chicago, Washington D.C, and New York, and outraged liberal activists have called for President Biden to either remove Roberts from the Court or appoint more liberal justices, arguing that the legitimacy of the court has been permanently sullied. There has also been extreme unease in the LGBTQ+ community, as a discrimination case out of Oklahoma works its way towards the Supreme Court.

Turn Guidelines
For this turn, please post an announcement and a rough schedule up until October 31. Ads and/or responses to current events are also encouraged. Additionally, each candidate is allowed two free endorsements (except for Donald Trump Jr., who recieves his father as a free endorsement), excluding major Democratic Party officials (Obama, Biden, Sanders, Duckworth). Responses to this turn are due, for now, on April 1, until which new candidates will be allowed to join.

In the future, the following credits system will be used:
1 credit for every 4% in national polls

3 credits: Governors, former Presidents
2 credits: Senators, current and former Cabinet Officials, former Governors, major celebrities, newspapers, unions
1 credit: U.S Representatives, former Senators, state officials, etc.

Home state endorsements are avaliable at a discount of 0.5 credits.

Additionally, internal state polls will be avaliable from the start of Turn 2 for no charge, though there will be a 4-poll limit per turn and internals will be skewed towards the candidate conducting them. Of course, you're welcome to pool your polls to get more data.

POLIS 2024
      For a Brighter Tomorrow

GOVERNOR POLIS ANNOUNCEMENT SPEECH
Denver, CO, May 12, 2023

Polis: Hello, Denver!

(crowd cheers)

I'd ask how you all were, but it seems you've already answered my question.

(good-natured laughter)

When I entered into politics, there was no Obergefell v. Hodges. But in 2008, with your help, I became the first openly gay man who wasn't an incumbent to be elected to the United States House, only the second LGBTQ+ person, after my good friend Senator Tammy Baldwin, to accomplish that feat. In 2018, with your help, I repeated that feat on a gubernatorial level, after Former Governor Kate Brown, another friend of mine!

(crowd cheers)

Once again, I am not the first member of this vibrant community to tread this ground, nor, this time, even the first man from that community. However, I do intend to be the first member to take us further than we've ever gone before, all the way to the White House!

(crowd roars)

Ladies and gentlemen, we've seen a lot of changes in the past twenty years, many of them good, but many of them problematic, as well. Climate change has worsened, despite our efforts to combat it. A woman's right to choose is now in jeopardy on a level not seen in fifty years. The rights of the community of which I could not be a prouder member may soon join it.

Thus, while I respect and support President Biden, I believe that the time for incrementalism is over. We are in crisis now. We need radical change now. Dare I say it, against what for many years I would have called my better judgment, we need a revolution on these issues now! Because climatologists have told us that it's now or never. If we wait even until 2030 to bring our carbon emissions down by an order of magnitude, it will be too late! Every second we sit on our hands could be the second a woman breathes her last in an illicit abortion clinic because she didn't have access to a safer alternative!

Even now, bigots hiding behind supposed "religious convictions" want to strike down my right to be married to the man I love. To them, I say God IS love! 1 John 4:8, look it up!

(crowd shouts its approval)

I won't stand idly by as the Republicans plot to destroy our nation's values and our planet for their own political and economic benefit. We need a Green New Deal, we need to reverse the hideous decision of SPLC v. Marshall, and we need to introduce a New Bill of Rights to the Constitution, so that these basic human rights can never be credibly threatened again!

And, with President Biden electing to retire, I believe we need in his successor someone who is willing to fight to the bitter end for all of those things. Which is why I am proud to announce that I am running for President of the United States!

(crowd erupts)

And I'd like to welcome to the stage another good friend of mine, the Senator from our neighbors to the south, Ben Ray Luján!

(more cheers)

Luján: Good morning, Denver! Buenos dias, mis amigos!

(crowd cheers)

It is so great to be here today to tell all of you that I am endorsing Jared for President of the United States, because he will fight for the interests of the poor working family over the corporate magnate, the interests of the minority youth who just wants a shot at the American dream over the white nationalist who would literally kill them to prevent that!

(crowd roars)

The woman terrified of giving birth to the child of the man who raped her over the lunatic who says it was a punishment from God! The low-income Floridian whose house is at real risk of being underwater in the next few years over the oil and coal industries! The LGBT individual who just wants acceptance over the bigot who will stop at nothing to ostracize, stereotype, and humiliate them, or even, in extreme cases, murder them! It is this fight that we face, and it is this fight we will win if you join me in making Governor Jared Polis el próximo presidente de los Estados Unidos! Thank you!

Haley 2024!
Announcement Speech in Charleston, South Carolina

Image from Wikimedia Commons

Quote
Hello Charleston!

It’s good to be back home. Thank you for your warm welcome.

Being in Washington the last few years has really opened my eyes. I always knew that Washington was dysfunctional, but when you actually step into it you really see the scope of the dysfunction. We are in need of a leader. That’s not what we have right now. We need someone with strength, compassion, conviction, humility, and a fighter. That’s not what we have right now.

4 years ago, Joe Biden and his socialist friends promised a “return to normalcy” and he promised there would be “no malarkey.” My friends, let me tell you this, there is a lot of malarkey. Whether it’s appointing judges who advocate for infanticide, being in favor of a disastrous Green New Deal or making our healthcare system weaker, Joe Biden has made America weaker.

Next November, Americans will decide if they want Socialism and a weaker nation or Capitalism and a stronger nation. We need someone at the top of the ticket who can bring people together. The mainstream media likes to make it seem that the Republican Party is a party of old white men. I am living proof that that is fake news.

Our party’s goals are common-sense solutions. We want to lower your taxes, the Democrats want more of your hard-earned income. We want to protect innocent infants and still provide care for women, Democrats do not. We want health care that’s not made by the dysfunctional government, we want you to choose your health care plan. We want a government that gets out of the way of small businesses and allow the free market to get things done. We want good free trade agreements like President Trump’s USMCA.

So, we need someone who can reach our entire party, and reach out to independents and Democrats that are afraid of the socialist takeover of their party. We need someone who can win, someone who can govern and get things done. I am Nikki Haley, and I proudly announce my candidacy for President of the United States! Thank you Charleston, let’s get to work!

Alexandria Ocaiso Cortez announces her Presidential run in her hometown of Bronx New York

(Image is from Popsugar)

*AOC walks up to the podium*
Several years ago I went here in front of a small crowd to announce that I would be running a long shot run for Congress. They didn’t think that I could beat in a primary one of the top house Democrats at the time but they were wrong!  Since then I have been out there in Washington as one of the most respected and highly rated progressive lawmakers and been behind some of the progressive victories of the Biden Admistration! And that is why I am declaring a run for the Democratic nomination of President of the United States!  *Crowd cheers*

We need someone in this Whitehouse to give what the people need.  Medicare for all, a federal jobs guarantee, a Green New Deal, free college and trade school and housing for all and I am that person *The crowd cheers again*

Kirsten Gillibrand Announces Run for President in New York City

"New York, you sure know how to make your Senator feel welcome!

Four years ago, when I decided to end my campaign for President, I made a promise to never stop fighting as hard for American families as I would my own. I decided to commit to electing a Democratic President and flipping the Senate because we all saw what was at stake if we didn't.

I'm still so proud that we were able to achieve that.

We didn't just achieve electoral success, however, we also passed a trillion-dollar infrastructure bill, a public option for healthcare and we codified Roe v. Wade as law. I've been proud of the work in Washington these past few years, but I think there's still so much work for us to do.

Republicans have decided to use their majorities to strip away the hard-fought rights of the LGBTQ community and to chip away at reproductive rights, so much so that the Supreme Court is once again hearing a state's case for why it can take away a person's choice. We need a leader that can take this on.

We need a leader that will take on the NRA and fight gun companies who believe that they should be immune to lawsuits regarding their weapons. We need a leader that will commit to a Green New Deal ensuring our children will get a liveable Earth. We need someone who is unafraid to not only commit to universal healthcare but who will get us to Medicare for All!

This fight has never been an easy one, but I still believe that brave always wins. New York, I'm here to launch my campaign for President of the United States!

This is a campaign that's for all of you, not for special interests looking to influence and sway our leaders with a donation. Because of this, my campaign will not be accepting any corporate PAC money and will be totally driven by grassroots support.

With your help, I believe we can win and create an America that's fairer and more just for us all."

The announcement speech of Donald Trump Jr. in Des Moines, Iowa - 20th April 2024

Hello, Des Moines! Hello, Iowa! Hello, America!

In 2016, the American people voted to Make America Great Again. And they got exactly that. My father cut taxes for everyone, made the economy strong, governed for the people! However, in 2020, the fear-mongering, Fake News media blew a disease way out of proportions, and so we elected a President who not only did not stood up to the DC swamp, he made them stronger! We elected a President who did not protect our Constitution, but did everything in his power to make it weaker! We elected a President who did not fought disastrous government intervention in healthcare, but passed more of it! We elected a President who allowed people like AOC, people like Bernie Sanders, to make our laws! We elected a President who protected the mass slaughter of children! We elected a President who allowed DC to govern in his place, while he can not keep track of what state he is in! We elected a President who did not keep America great!

After 4 years of the Biden disaster, we must return to greatness, to prosperity, to limited government intervention, to fighting abortion, to a strong economy, to less illegal immigration, to strong border security! And I, I have stood by my father as he led a tremendously successful company, I have stood by my father as he led a tremendously successful Administration! And I have gathered experience, I have learned from him and I am now ready to fulfill his legacy and to make this country proud of itself! But I also know, that there are people out there who want to take this party down on a different path. And while I disagree with them on a broad range of issues, I know that in order to win this election and grant the American people the prosperity that they deserve, we must be united. As such, I invite all Americans to join me in creating a movement which will Make America Great AGAIN! Thank you, God Bless you, God Bless the USA!

Ambassador Haley Interview

Image from Wikimedia Commons

This Sunday, 2024 presidential candidate and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley participated on an interview with Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday.

Wallace: And now to the 2024 presidential race. A lot of candidates have declared and more will, but let's hear from one leading Republican candidate, former UN Ambassador and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. Ambassador Haley, welcome.

Haley: Thank you for having me, Chris.

Wallace: Early polls indicate that you're among the candidates with the highest name recognition. Yet, you haven't held elected office since 2017. How do you intend to overcome this deficit?

Haley: Yes, Chris, it’s true that I haven’t held elected office in around 7 years. But, I see that as a positive. What we’ve seen in the last 4 years is a president who’s had over 50 years in public life, and look what’s happened. We have Supreme Court justices that will not defend the right of life and would allow infanticide. We have the worst health care system in our history. Every day we’re inching closer and closer to socialism. The party in power would rather see the United States be run like Venezuela. I want to move us forward from all of this. I don’t have recent government experience, but that’s an asset. I don’t have the stench of Washington and its bureaucrats who get nothing done. I’ve got a record of being a passionate fighter who gets things done. When I was Governor of South Carolina, we brought over 85,000 new jobs in my first term. We brought nearly $22 billion in capital investment. When I was Governor, I urged the state prosecutors to make sure that the gunman in the horrific Charleston Church shooting got sentenced to the death penalty. We made it mandatory to have a photo ID to go vote in South Carolina. And lastly, we made South Carolina a safe haven for the people of Israel. The way that former President Obama and President Biden have treated the people of Israel is devastating. We must protect them, and as Governor, I signed a law to stop the effects of the BDS movement. We got a lot done in my home state and I hope to bring those types of change to the United States.

Wallace: Every Republican presidential nominee thus far in history has been white, and all but one (Sarah Palin) have been male. Do you believe this history affects the prospects for your campaign?

Haley: I think people ought to vote for me because of my plans for the future, my record, and my electability. I don’t want people to vote for me or not vote for me because of the color of my skin and my gender. However, I do think with a more diverse ticket, we have a great opportunity to show the country that the stereotype that the Republican Party is a party of old white men, is simply false. I’d be honored to be the first female president, however, that’s not why I’m running. I’m running to bring bold change to our country and to beat the Socialists this November.

Wallace: As we all know, President Trump left behind a checkered legacy. How will you further his legacy as President, if at all?

Haley: I think there is a lot to admire in President Trump’s legacy. We saw one of the greatest economic turnovers in quite a long time. Unemployment to its lowest numbers, over 4,000,000 new jobs in his 4 years, 400,000 new manufacturing jobs during his time in office, the median household income hit its highest in all time, nearly 4 million Americans being lifted off of food stamps, he signed the First Step Act which was written by my good friend, Tim Scott. President Trump was the jobs president, to say the least. When I’m president we’re gonna see this kind of job growth because we’re gonna cut taxes for the lower and middle classes. I hope to continue President Trump’s economic and criminal justice record when I am President.

Wallace: What will your first 100 days be like?

Haley: Our first 100 days is gonna be focused on going back to normal. I hope we can get rid of the wasteful Green New Deal, get rid of the laws that are infringing on our 2nd Amendment rights, and we’re gonna stop infanticide. Moving forward, we’re also going to pass some new tax cuts to give lower and middle-class Americans a fair shot. Hopefully, we’ll also be trying to get a big education bill out of the Congress that focuses on providing some debt relief to students, as well as focusing on and incentivizing young Americans to get vocational education, and lastly to train students for the 21st century so that our young men and women are ready for new jobs to lower the threat of automation taking over some industries. We’re going to get America back on track in our first 100 days.

If you'd like an interview, DM me for the questions and you can feel free to post them and your responses in the thread.

"Carly Fiorina Launches Second Bid For White House"
Febuary 20th, 2023

Today, at the Conservative Action Political Committee, Carly Fiorina announced that she would be running for president again. Former CEO of Hewlett Packard who caught fire in the fall of 2016 primary before failing to keep the support in the primaries and dropped out soon after the New Hampshire primary after winning just one delegate. Ms. Fiorina in her announcement speech said, "We need a leader when elected, won't just turn their backs on their promises and goals. I have a proven record of keeping promises and I know I will not back down as president that's why I ran eight years ago and getting back on the trail today."

Carly Fiorina has remained in the background of politics under the Trump administration but has started to crawl back into the public light after sharp attacks on President Biden. Fiorina's team assures that this race will be different than 2016 with the campaign manager, Sean McCort, saying "Carly Fiorina is one the strongest speakers in the race but the problem was no organization and we have already fixed that. Tomorrow, we are announcing our first series of hires to keep us competitive and make sure we can win in 2024"

Ms. Fiorina does have a higher name recognition than some of the lesser-known candidates but is still polling in the lower tier. The campaign hopes that the debates will be her opportunities to surge into frontrunner status alongside Nikki Haley and Donald Trump Jr.

Chris Wallace Interviews Businesswoman Carly Fiorina

Chris Wallace: Like Ambassador Haley, you've been out of the public spotlight for quite some time - but unlike her, you don't have any prior government experience. What makes you think you can win this election?

Carly Fiorina: I know I can win this nomination and then the presidency in the fall because I know that both Republicans and nearly all Americans want an experienced leader who will bring something new to the table. That is exactly why the American people bucked political norms when they voted for and elected President Donald Trump. I feel that the Americans still want something to be shaken up, the government is still not doing what our founders said our government should be doing which is representing the people and their views. When I go to Washington and I move into the White House, I can promise the American people one thing and it is that I won't be doing business as usual. That is the message I'm sharing across the country and I believe it is resonating.

Chris Wallace: You hail from California, one of the nation's most liberal states, and home to some suburbs that have drastically swung against the Republican Party. Do you believe you can win these demographics back for the GOP?

Carly Fiorina: When the suburbs were the strongest in the Republican corner was the 2012 election where Mitt Romney ran on the idea of being pro-business and how he understood small business because he was a business leader. That resonated with these suburbs because many people living in those suburbs either own or are an employee of a small business which is why it is important that Republicans run a business-friendly agenda like I am doing. I believe we must do everything we can to help small businesses by cutting red tape and taxes that are the main cause of death for many businesses starting today. That is the winning message in the suburbs which was proven by Senator Romney in 2012 and that is a similar message to what I am running on today

Chris Wallace: Back in 2016, you were one of President Trump's primary opponents. And unlike your brief running mate Ted Cruz, you haven't been as vocal in embracing the 45th President. Could you clarify for us where you stand on President Trump and his legacy?

Carly Fiorina: I am never going to be the one that will stick by President Trump just because he is a Republican. I believe President Trump was a very good president and help secure economic prosperity for a long time till obviously it was upended. I think the President knew how to lead in a crisis and if he was re-elected, I think he would've actually held China accountable for their actions. Still, I am the only Republican in this race willing to admit that the President made mistakes. I made clear that he should not have done the phone call, I have made clear that he wasn't tough enough against Russian but the thing is, you will never have a president that you fully agree with. If you are going to ask me whether I rather have President Trump or President Biden, Obama or Clinton in the White House today then I would say President Trump one hundred percent.

Chris Wallace: What are your legislative priorities as President, and how willing will you be to cross the aisle and work with Democrats?

Carly Fiorina: I will have to work with Democrats and every other candidate in the race will have to work with Democrats because we do not control the house. That can change but we need to make sure we have a nominee that can work across the aisle if the House remains in Democrats hands. Still, when I work across the aisle, I must always remember my goals and never compromise them. If my goal is to cut the deficit and I go into talks and walk out with a bunch of pork to make congressman look good like always then I would have failed in those talks. I will not compromise, I will seek bipartisan agreement but I will never compromise.

That is something that some of my opponents in this race make me a little nervous and one of the reasons I am joining the fight. Look at Governor Phil Scott, he is trying to play up to conservatives to win this nomination but right when he sits down in the oval office he will compromise his promises which is the opposite of what we need in Washington today. Still, the other way around, Mr. Trump will most likely get nothing done because he won't be willing to find that bipartisan agreement with Democrats. Then if he doesn't get his way in talks he will attack them on twitter which does nothing to better discussion in Washington. I am the leader in this race that will find bipartisan agreement without compromising my promises and my conservative values to get things done.

Now to your first part of your question, my priorities as president are to make the federal government business-friendly. When I'm talking with the small town business owner in Iowa who wants to expand, they constantly talk about their fears of the red tape that could kill their existing business. Red tape and taxes shouldn't be the number one problem facing small businesses and I am going to make sure it's not so most businesses don't die after just five years.

Chris Wallace: Thank you for joining me today

Carly Fiorina: Thank you

Congresswoman Cortez’s speech on her economic policy

(Credit to Splinter News)

We need a green revolution in this country. And it’s a shame that the GOP in Washington wants to red bait and called it communism when it is popular with many Americans including some Republicans.

Our planet is in a crisis and we got to protect before things go to bad by 2040 which means promising a “Green New Deal for all” a plan that would give all Americans a guaranteed jobs,Medicare for all which will give Medicare to all Americans no matter what age and income and free college or trade school and invest money that are used on endless wars on green and solar energy for the future. As I will give tax credits to middle and working class people who want to start and get ahead in the business.

The rich will finally pay their fair share and paid their taxes and I will stop the end to all special tax breaks to corporations and make also sure that companies like Amazon and Facebook pay their fair share. *Crowd cheers and yells AOC*

Interview with Donald Trump Jr on Hannity

Hannity - You're the current frontrunner of the Republican race, thanks to the prominence and continuing popularity of your father within the GOP electorate. However, many voters of all parties doubt that your campaign has much substance. How will you prove that you're a vigorous candidate in your own right instead of a mere shadow of your father?

Trump Jr. - Well, I must say that I am honored by the support and excitement that the Republican voters have showed towards my campaign but I admit that there are critics, like towards every presidential campaign. As a candidate, I will do everything in my power to address every concern that the voters may have, which is why I will release detailed policy proposals on all issues that America is facing today. It is also crucial for our fellow Americans to know me, as well as all presidential candidates, on a deep, personal level, just like they knew my father, in order to decide who to elect to be the Commander-in-chief. I will make sure that they know me, know what I stand for and what I have accomplished throughout my life and career. I know that I carry the legacy and name of my father, but I am my own man, and I will show that to the people of this country.

Hannity - During your father's first term, you've become notorious for promoting many conspiracy theories, and you also may have been tangled in the numerous foriegn policy scandals that resulted in your father's impeachment. While your father hardly struggled at all with a torrent of unsavory allegations, you're facing many savvy career politicians who will go after your past aggressively. How will you respond to their attacks?

Trump Jr. - Oh, I am absolutely sure that when the American people are going to look at those manufactured scandals that the Democrats have faked in order to end the presidency and career of my father, they will not believe them. Just like in 2016, I wish my opponents good luck in attacking me with democrat talking points in a Republican primary, and I wish the Democrats good luck in attacking me with demonstrably false talking points as if that would distract anyone from the disaster they caused in the country.

Hannity - Out of curiosity, how aligned are you and your father on policy issues? And, how will you further your father's legacy as President?

Trump Jr. - Like any father and son, me and my father have some differences of opinion. For example, on healthcare, I do not believe that the plan my father and Congress proposed in 2017 is the solution to fix our healthcare system after the disaster that the Democrats have caused in it with 2 botched, failed attempts of reform. I also do not believe that more tax cuts for the wealthy are necessary given the economic context in which we live in. However, I absolutely agree with the core principles of my father, that is we need to put America First in all situations, a smaller government is a better government and the rule of law should be obeyed by everyone. I believe that we need to build that damn wall for once, I believe that we need to deport illegal immigrants, I believe that we need to restore the travel ban, I believe that we need to fight for fair trade deals, for middle class tax cuts and for draining the swamp, which is what I will do as President.

Hannity - Your father was notorious for his combative style, whether it be on the campaign trail or in the Oval Office. Will you return this style to the White House as President?

Trump Jr. - I believe that is a wrong way to put it. My father certainly was vocal, but that was only because the Fake News Media and the socialist Democrat Party would not stop spreading lies and misinforming the American people. There was the Russia hoax, there was the impeachment hoax, all based on nothing but made out to be national catastrophes. In face of that, anyone would respond. So yes, I will be vocal in responding to lies, I will be vocal in responding to hoaxes and I will be vocal in responding to whatever witch hunts the media and the Democrats come up with.

Announcement

Okay. As it appears a lot of candidates aren't posting yet, I'll extend the deadline for this turn to April 8 unless it appears unnessecary. The 'deadline' for candidate joining will remain April 1, though candidates can still jump in after that.

I'll also be posting a debate around April 1 or April 2. In lieu of typical personal questions, and as a means to simulate rebuttals, I'll accept one question submission per candidate, directed towards another candidate of the same party. For example, Carly Fiorina could ask a critical question aimed at Donald Trump Jr.. If a candidate doesn't recieve a question, I'll make one for them. Deadline for question submissions and debate entry will be April 1.

The campaign strategy of Donald Trump Jr. in May and June

Iowa, Iowa, Iowa. This is what the campaign and strategists of Donald Trump Jr. think could make or break the presidential candidacy of Trump Jr. They are hoping for a very, very strong showing, not just a victory, in order to seal the deal as early as possible to be able to focus on the general election as early as possible, where the aides think the candidate is disadvantaged given his controversies and the popularity of the incumbent President. As such, Donald Trump Jr will hold hundreds and hundreds of rallies, town halls and other events in both rural areas and big cities, use a significant portion of the budget for ads in Iowa and court the endorsement of officials. Meanwhile, his campaign will build infrastructure in Super Tuesday states, just in case the primary is not basically decided by then.
