Do Republicans in California want them to move away from the national GOP though? Seems like there are more Trumplovers there than in any other state.

Exacerbated by more well-off Republicans being able to move out-of-state, giving the crazies & extremists a bigger voice/presence in the state GOP.

Hell, San Bernardino County's Tea Party group is still active 10 years later
