VP candidates and potential cabinet picks are usually being "vetted" before they're announced in public. What exactly is done during such a process? The FBI digging for potential criminal dirt? Researches looking at every political decision they have made, every vote that was cast? Tax consultants checking tax returns? Candidates being interviewed about potential "youth sins" like drunk driving or drugs? Can somebody tell me specifics?
