From what I know of it i'm inclined to avoid it like the plague.

Not really, but I had a class in undergrad where someone demonstrated TOR to us and showed "and see, I can go to this sketchy dark web link and it works!" And then at my last job I had access to TOR, and did basically the same "proof of concept." But I had no real reason to go on the dark web for my job, and it seemed awfully risky to use my work computer to just browse it for fun, so I didn't.

Sure, where else would I get my machine guns and hard drugs from?

Kidding aside, nah, I have never surfed in the dark web. While most of it is just useless BS, I'm far too cautious about potential dangers and there's nothing that would even arouse my interest that much.

No, I’ve gone on some sketchy streaming sites because ESPN+ sucks but nothing close to the dark web really

Does TOR have any actual practical uses, for sharing encrypted information or something? I remember watching a silly youtube documentary about this creepy website (that may have been on TOR or just normally inaccessible) that was storing terabytes of info back in like 1999 when that was practically unheard of, but it may have just been an early movie piracy site, which seems like the least bad thing you could probably do with something like that.

I try to avoid sketchy sites in general these days. Fairly recently I was trying to find a stream for something, can't even remember what anymore, and the site was like fighting to disable my adblocker and antivirus and all that jazz, noped the hell out of there and probably should have just ripped out my power cord to be sure. Basically scared me straight.

Like half the dark web is child porn. Someone with the TOR browser is an immediate red flag.

No. Although on occasion I thought about it out of curiousity, I left my fingers off the dark web. I just don't want to land somewhere by accident where I'm not supposed to be.
