Getting nervous that Ohio, Arizona, Illinois and Florida will be postponed.

Would like them to take place as scheduled - would end the primary once and for all

Public health is more important than politics. If we're fully capable of carrying out our democracy (even if via the rescheduling of contests) while mitigating risk to the community, then it's our societal responsibility to put our friends & neighbors ahead of electoral politics. This crisis demands that we work together to ensure the well-being of all of us.

I get that. I really don’t think holding those primaries in the grand scheme of things will make THAT much of a difference. Maybe I’m naive

Possibly, but if a candidate can't win an open primary election, there's a problem with their candidacy. Sanders is learning the same lesson as Corbyn. You need a plurality of the electorate, not a super-hyped up 5-15% who preach their candidate's gospel on twitter with feverish zeal.

Caucuses aren't representative, heck, with turnout that low, you could argue that they're barely democratic.

They aren't democratic at all. Hopefully this is the last we'll ever see of what few of them are left.

If you think the RNC is abandoning caucuses, you're out of your mind. They even have state conventions that no one votes in at all.

This is probably the last year there'll be caucuses in the Democratic nominating process, but that's far from saying they're done completely.

Right, I meant in the Democratic Party's process. The GOP will continue to not care.

I wonder if they will delay New York's...I'm already ready with the absentee voting.

We really need to be prepping now for universal vote by mail for November.

As if coronavirus is going to still be a problem by November.
As if Republicans are going to make it easier to vote.

Man, coronavirus sucks. Ever since Trump took office, we hoped for a record turnout in the 2020 election. If things continue to worsen, that will be down the drain.

I still think we could see record turnout. Play an AD showings a news clip of Trump disbanding the Pandemic response team and then a news clip about how bad the pandemic response has been. That should motivate voters

Our nation voted in the middle of the civil war , we can surely vote through this .

I think two things are important:

1. More early voting; keep voting places open for a longer time to avoid waiting lines. People can get out and vote if they avoid too much close contact with others. If you keep distance and wash your hands, risk should be pretty low.

2. Increased voting by mail

Georgia is considering sending absentee ballots to all older voters for the May primary:

Quote
Jordan Fuchs, deputy secretary of state, said Sunday that – logistically and financially – the state could not afford to shift to a system in which all balloting is conducted by mail, as some have called for. But it could afford to mail ballot applications to those over 65 or even 60 – whichever is recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the state Department of Public Health.

Terrible, extremely short-sighted decision that sets a bad precedent.  The primaries MUST NOT be delayed.  Sanitize the machines after every person votes.  Extend voting hours til midnight if need be.

The primary elections schedule is arbitrary.  Any election that happens tomorrow should not be considered democratic.

When Trump wants to suspend the November election and Republicans going along with it, you'll be singing a different tune.  If you don't think it can happen, you haven't been paying attention for the last 3 years.

This is why we need universal vote by mail with automatic voter registration.

As a temporary measure considering the magnitude of this emergency, sure.

The US has over 7 months until then to establish solutions that allow everyone to vote without putting their health and the health of others at risk.

Because this is essentially a last minute decision, it is unclear if it will actually go through.

Imagine if the coronavirus had struck 6 weeks earlier, and we were at this stage of the pandemic on Iowa caucus day.

So, a lawsuit will be filed? Great. Just great. That means my wife and I have no idea whether or not we need to show up to vote tomorrow or not.
