This process was even put forward ealier, in 1988. They wanted a southern candidate like Al Gore, but it didn't work as liberal Mike Dukakis won Texas and Florida on Super Tuesday.

California just moved up its primary due to Newsom was all in for Harris. Harris cratered. All the other primary elections has always voted on the days, they voted this term. If NV, instead of IA, whom was harsh on Warren and Harris chances, NV would have nominated a female Prez

This is pretty much it. The DLC used their individual state connections to all shove most of the southern primaries onto one date in hopes that the strength of that bloc would give a moderate the nomination. The problem was nobody wanted to run from among the DLC. First choice was Chuck Robb, who deferred to Sam Nunn, who deferred to Dale Bumpers, who deferred to Bill Clinton, who bowed out, so the torch was all in Al Gore's hands. And then he ended up splitting Super Tuesday with Jesse Jackson so out went that plan lol.
