Obviously I dispute this notion of "friendliness" in the South, as it only exists in certain cases among people that are considered worthy. Listen to your fellow southerners' comments about places like Massachusetts, Vermont....or (gasp) France.

I've never heard a Southerner say something negative about Vermont.  France is despised  by conservatives in all parts of the country, and the comments about Massachusetts really only pertain to gay marriage.

Nothing compared to what Northerners (even on this forum) think about Mississippi.

Does VA count as a Southern state? If so, I myself have not said negative things about those places either (except perhaps politicially...but Northerners bashing the South over politics happens at least just as often, so I second Harry the Greatest). I in particular am not as prone to bashing MA, for example, as many other conservatives.

It wasn't necessarily meant literally...exactly concerning Vermont and Massachusetts....but it was a more general statement concerning progressive, intelligent people from other parts of the countries, and of course racial tensions play a big role too.

But I'll believe BaconKing and co. if they say they personally don't hear too much of that kind of stuff.

Concerning the other states bashing the South....it might be a result of the South having excessive and unproportional influence over the last couple of decades, so it obviously leads people (who aren't conservative and happy about it) to dislike some of the people there. Might change now as we've finally got an administration that most likely won't pander to them.

I wouldn't necessarily consider people from other places ( north) intelligent over those in the south.  This is where you have it wrong.

1. Keystone Phil - He would make an outstanding leader of this country of ours.
2. BenConstine- He is a fine person and a student of history
3. Lief - He is a fine person and would never sway from his beliefs, so the makings of a one term president
4. Mike Naso- He wants the job a great deal and could be a strong leader.
5. MasterJedi- He has quite a large array of positions ranging from hawkishness to environmentalism, making for an interesting administration.
6. Fezzyfestoon- He is so darn smart and just exudes authority and respect.
7. The Physicist (PiT)- He is brilliant.
8. Harry- He really wants the job and I want people to achieve their dreams.

Least:

1. Texasgurl- She would really hate the job.
2. Rin-chan- She would really hate the job and I would never wish the presidency on a person who is this nice.
3. Eraserhead- Is too blunt to be president, which makes him a heck of a person, just not a politician (and that is a compliment!).
4. Al- He is also too blunt and makes too much sense to be president.
5. AndrewCT- This is because he wants to be on a "least" list.
6. Phillip - Is too intelligent to be president and he would also hate the job.
7. Franzl - He is far too intelligent to be president and would make a ten times better Chief Justice.
8. Ralph Nader, he just never will be no matter how hard he tries. It always breaks my heart to see people who can't achieve their dreams.
