The "legitimate rape" comment by Todd Akin of Missouri. Do you think it hurt Romney?

Akin wasn't affiliated with Romney (aside from being a Republican), and Romney quickly criticized Akin afterwards. But the comment got a lot of national attention, all of it negative. A lot of people bashed the GOP brand for Todd Akin's comment. I think it had a trickle effect and hurt Romney.

It didn't singlehandedly cost him the election, but it had a role.

Romney was hurt much more by down ballot Republicans than himself or the reverse. Romney was well-spoken but the Tea Party types made sure everyone knew they were bat sh**t insane.

Dick Morris, the Clinton advisor that is famous for being wrong about the Romney landslide (lost his job at Fox over it) believes that the 2 main factors that cost Romney were Todd Akin and Richard Murdoch as he thinks it turned a lot of woman away from the republican party and President Obama rubbing shoulders with Chris Christie after Hurricane Sandy.
