One thing I will never understand about Sanders is why he ran two presidential campaigns based on common sense reforms that were popuar in the States and more or less common practice in the rest of the developed world, and then royally ed it by (inaccurately) describing himself as a socialist to an electorate that truly despises any semblance of what they call "socialism". It was a stupid and unnecessary tactic and it's turned round and bitten him.

Here’s what seems clear to me going forward:

- Warren and Bloomberg should both drop out tomorrow.
- Biden is the clear favorite going forward
- Sanders is an underdog, but he deserves to stay in it a while longer.  We should at least get one head-to-head debate.
- Therefore, Sanders should stay in through the March 17 primaries.  If Biden still has a substantial delegate lead after the next two sets of contests, Bernie should drop out and wrap things up.

James Carville is giddy on MSNBC right now

Well yeah, the commie is getting crushed.
Doesn't mean Biden is the better general election candidate.

You literally just said earlier that you’d rather Bernie win because he’s easier to beat?? Are you a complete idiot or just trolling?
Not sure who would be easier to beat, but I think with Bernie there is a chance of tons of enthusiasm with Joe you know he is a highly flawed candidate and will not drive up turnout.

You really must enjoy making people cry that you need to win November.

Thanks, Liz

Extremely disappointed with her tonight.

It's pretty clear she wanted to prevent Bernie from ever getting the nomination.

If she wanted to destroy Bernie, she would have gone after him during the debates instead of wasting time on Bloomberg.

Warren just has sh**tty political instincts (that has always been her weaknesses), but she wasn't trying to intentionally hurt Bernie.

I don't get why so many people say this. She's run a good campaign!  Winning is just really hard and often requires a lot of luck.

I saw. The cognitive dissonance must be tough to manage. Excuses will be flying.

Could be both.  They're not mutually exclusive.

I'm not even a Bernie supporter but you guys are completely blowing this out of proportion. Even if losing Minnesota and Massachusetts is a bit embarrassing, Bernie doesn't care if he wins Texas and California.

There are far more safe Bernie Western states remaining than safe Biden Southern states, so he'll have plenty of time to turn the narrative around from all you Chicken Littles claiming that Bernie is finished because he's getting crushed in the DC suburbs.

This still points in the direction of a contested convention.
No? If anything, tonight makes it 90% a two person race.

Honestly it's hard to look at these maps and conclude that Sanders has the widespread working class appeal his surrogates have been touting.

Yeah, I hate to admit it but the country's just not ready for Sanders' brand of politics.  Bernie Sanders is not Barack Obama, and until the progressive wing of the party can find a candidate like Obama who has widespread appeal and can sell these policies to voters beyond his or her core base, we're not going to get anywhere close to getting them passed.  All we can do right now is steadily push the mainstream of the Democratic Party to the left, but that is going to take time and generational change.

Once this primary is over though, progressives will be left in the dark without a leader.  Maybe AOC will fill that space, but even she would be too polarizing for the electorate at this time.  We really have nowhere to go.  And until we have another recession, the status quo will continue to dominate.

There is no point in trying to have hope for this country anymore.  Nothing will change.

Someone will come along soon enough. I think a lot of the reason Sanders is lacking support was because of the lack of attempt to win over other candidates’ supporters. Another was that people are tired and Sanders is simply too much drama for some people. I would hardly lose hope for progressives tonight

Bernie is up by 1% in Boston with 1/2 of the vote in. The splintering of his vote with Warren will have likely given Mass to Biden.

Maybe Bernie and his supporters could learn something if they asked themselves how they managed to alienate a former ally so strongly. If nothing else, it shows why people like me are so skeptical of his ability to enact major reforms requiring lots of allies in government.

Oh f**k off

You're literally proving Crumpets' point for him, but sure, go off I guess 🤷

I was ready compromise and get behind Biden, but seeing all this "haha suck it Bernie Bros you're all losers" is convincing me more and more that there is no room for progressives in the Democratic Party.

Warren stabbed Bernie in the back, and he tried really hard to defuse the situation. He really went out of his way to avoid attacking her. The idea that he alienated her is absurd. Anyone else would have counterattacked about her record of lying.

Bernie on stage in Essex Junction now going hard against Biden. Expect a more aggressive approach to his campaign in the coming weeks.
