I figured that the heightened polarization, combined with the large amount of disenfranchisement, would keep the Sunbelt competitive (rather than begin to lean Democratic), and thus allow the map to be pretty static in terms of the statewide winners. Granted, Republicans are coming close to winning a few states held by the Democrats, and certain parts of the GOP firewall are becoming more vulnerable to flipping.

The fact that he is splitting it into two parts seems like things are going to take a turn for the worse. It could just be that 2040 is an aberration, the country goes the way of South Africa, it goes the way of the Soviet Union, or it goes the way of any other country that successfully "purified" itself and remained stable.
