Why Did Erin Murphy win the urban areas, while Tim Walz and Lori Swanson won the rural areas?

Murphy was from St. Paul, while Walz was from MN-01, so it probably came down to home region advantage. I think Swanson won the 8th since her running mate was Rick Nolan.

The most liberal candidate who was from one of the Twin Cities and had a base of mostly urban based unions and progressive activists won urban areas is supposed to be surprising?

Why did Murphy also win rural Cook County? Is it because there are many Twin Cities expatriates there?

Its a bit of union workers in the iron range but also more touristy expat types who might just reside there. Its the only county north of the twin cities to trend D in 2016.

Murphy is quite liberal. What are Walz and Swanson like?

a) she's from St. Paul

b) Walz and Swanson split voters, which helped Murphy. No Swanson, and we'd likely Walz winning in MN-04 and MN-05

c) Urban DFLers are the far left Bernie types that think Walz is Republican-lite (which isn't really true, but whatever)

Walz is pragmatic progressive, Swanson is a centrist

...no? Swanson maybe but not Walz, who had significant support in the urban areas and had the endorsement of Jacob Frey and many urban legislators.

I'm talking about the ones that went to Murphy, not all of them. The field was split so they were a plurality in CD4 and CD5. Obviously Jacob Frey is a different ballgame.
