Hmm...I would've suggested Albert stands down as Speaker, and a coalition of Moderate Democrats/Republicans elects Ford Speaker, allowing him to ascend to the Presidency, but as I'm not familiar with the original TL, I'll reserve judgment.

I feel Gavin is an infinitely more interesting character for this scenario than Gerald Ford.

It's kind of sad that Israel using nukes against any enemies probably wouldn't be the worst atrocity to happen in a Middle East war.

Not that it would have changed the result or anything, but I think Talmadge would have voted Nay rather than Present in the impeachment trial.

I didn't read the original TL, but something along the lines of a Walter Mondale/Ronald Reagan election in 1976 (with Gavin still running as an Independent) would be the most interesting scenario to me.

I'm not sure if she'd win Senate confirmation at this point, but Ruth Bader Ginsburg would be an excellent choice for the vacant Supreme Court seat...
