https://www.politico.com/states/new-york/whiteboard/2020/01/29/shaun-donovan-former-obama-official-plans-to-run-for-mayor-1257309

"Donovan served as the secretary of Housing and Urban Development under President Barack Obama and was later appointed his director of the Office of Management and Budget. Prior to his work in the Obama administration, Donovan was the commissioner of housing preservation and development under former Mayor Mike Bloomberg."

"Donovan will join a crowded field of candidates running for mayor in 2021. Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, Comptroller Scott Stringer and Speaker Corey Johnson are all likely mayoral contenders."

I'm joking Roll Eyes

There was speculation that she was interested in running in 2017, but she didn't.

wouldn't it be wild if AOC decides to throw her hat in the ring?

Also Corey Johnson is a New England sports fan, which means that if he were to win, Red Sox fans would have had a continuous 24 year run in Gracie Mansion.

I'm certain she is not interested in a position of actual responsibility that would instantly tank her popularity.

Donovan is pretty irrelevant. I'd say Corey Johnson is still the favorite at this point.

No way she'd run for mayor. That involves doing actual work and she'd have even less of an idea of how to do her job than she does right now.

What about Ruben Diaz Jr. if he runs, his father will hurt him if Merk-Vivinto, or Torres doesn't win.

That would probably go as well as his Presidential bid did.

Also AOC is very much like Elizabeth Warren in a personality sense: an firebrand ideologue and arguer whose area of focus is very much not actual governance.

(Note: I say this as someone who loves AOC and respects Warren immensely.)

I do disagree on Warren though.

I think that's more Bernie's thing.

Warren is a wonk, working with bureaucracy is her thing

It'll probably come down to him and Stringer in the end. I doubt Yang actually goes for it, he's probably eyeing a House seat. Who is his Congressman?

Jerrold Nadler (he lives in Hells Kitchen, acording to FEC documents). That's NY-10.

Diaz already dropped out.

Jerry only has so many terms left in him. I could definitely see him going for that when the time comes.

I was saddened by this until I discovered that they were talking about Ruben Diaz, Jr. and not Ruben Diaz, Sr.

Diaz, Sr. is a Pentecostal Pastor who is a pro-life socially conservative (but otherwise liberal) Democrat, which I am at heart.  The political system has forced me to choose between two (2) boxes, neither of which fit well, and demand conformity moreso now than ever before.

Warren's dream job was to run the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The GOP denying her that dream is the whole reason she's in the Senate now.
