Sit back, relax, and enjoy living in a state that even the coronavirus doesn't want to visit.

Basically wait for the coal industry to collapse and have a Democratic administration institute universal basic income in the state and wait some decades for trends to change yet again.

I do not even predict a GOP sweep of West Virginia at this time for November. Though I am scratching my head as to why John Perdue did not just run for Governor? Attorney General elections looks competitive  as well.

My prediction for 2020 for WV is a Republican sweep

How very bold of you to predict that in a state Trump is going to win by 40+ points.

I think that’s the most likely scenario obviously, but there’s still a possibility that Morrisey or, yes, even Justice could lose this fall. I think Morrisey is the most likely of those to lose just because he was extremely unpopular in 2018, he’s a serial underperformer, and his opponent is probably the best the Democrats could get.

It’s a shame. I thought West Virginia was a beautiful state when I drove through it last spring if you ifnore all the trailer parks and industrial parks everywhere.

"Aside from that Mrs. Lincoln..."

But in all seriousness, you are correct. WV has a lot of natural beauty as long as you steer clear of the denizens.

Maintain a good organisation so if fluke circumstances like the Alabama or Massachusetts special Senate race arrive they are prepared to seize the opportunity and take the Senate seat for a few years.

All things considered, the WV and KY Democrats are probably the best Democratic State parties in the nation when you factor in their states’ leans. If you could transfer that competence to the FL and Texas Democratic Parties, imagine what the results could be.

The TX And FL GOP doesn’t have any people as bad as Matt Bevin heading their ticket and they have been in power so long in both those states cause they have done an absolutely fabulous job governing those states.

Just look at the direction CA and TX has taken since the mid/late 90s and now TX is the better of two states . When CA was the more Republican of the two at the state level which was true even from 1966-1998 , CA was the better governed state and was by far the best state in the Union .

I’m not arguing that California has become ungovernable. I think that’s largely a result of it just having gotten so big and attractive that it forces prices to go up everywhere, thus pricing people out. Texas doesn’t have that problem. If one suburb fills up with people, we got tons of empty land to develop a new suburb if needed. California cities don’t have that luxury.

California Zoning laws are also beyond terrible, and its a super high taxed state as well. Like California used to be so much better in comparision to the rest of the nation back in the 90s while now its not even the best state.

Try to convince the national party that winning Mingo County, WV is more important than winning in places like Jefferson County, CO and NoVA?  Half of Atlas seems to already think that for some reason.

It's sad.

John Perdue is gone.

Perdue and Manchin will be gone.

Can Ojeda win the 2024 governorship?

This post aged well, and that is basically what happened anyways, I expect Manchin to become a mainstream Dem now, because he knows he's DoA anyways, and maybe if he votes the party line, he could be rewarded in a post-2024 Dem administration.

NGL, looking pretty bleak in WV for Dems rn. Hibernation until DC creeps in is probably the move. I realize that it will be white people skewing conservative first, but that's better than the fat goose egg of voters who the Democratic Party can even appeal to in West Virginia atm.

In 2025, there will be no major West Virginia Democrats.

Other than the WV Dems, is there any other state that has this? Maybe OK Dems, or AR Dems?

Arkansas Dems at least have a base in black Arkansans and Oklahoma City seems to be headed the right way for Oklahoma Dems. West Virginia, in contrast, is overwhelmingly white and the biggest bas for them seems to be WVU. It does not look good, at least until D.C. starts to really expand into WV.

Yes It's WVU even though it's the University of West Virginia.
