SENATOR KLOBUCHAR TOWN HALL RESPONSES

1) Many of you have very strong views on the President's tax cuts, which recently passed the Senate 53-47, with six of you even voting on it (all against). Would each of you care to once again clarify your position on the issue, and would the Senators explain the reasoning behind their votes?

Quote
Look, I think it’s unfortunate that these tax cuts passed the Senate. As one of the Senators that opposed it, it’s deeply disturbing to see the President portrays these tax cuts as relief for everyday Americans when in reality they leave the very poorest, those who need it the most, without a platform of support. While I do think there are some adequate intents of the bill, it ultimately doesn’t aid those who need it the most which would be one of the main priorities of a Klobuchar administration, pushing for a tax code that is fair and effective. We must also acknowledge that these tax cuts lower the corporate tax rate when instead we need to do the opposite, we need to ensure that companies are paying their share.

2) Healthcare is the #1 issue Americans are concerned about this election cycle. How would each of you format healthcare under your administration?

Quote
Last week I had the pleasure of meeting someone who is here again with me today,  Nicole Smith-Holt. Nicole’s son Alec, a 26-year-old restaurant manager from the southern suburbs, aged off his parents’ health insurance. Three days short of his payday, Alec, a diabetic, wasn’t able to afford his insulin. He tried rationing it to save money. Tragically it didn’t work. He died. This disgrace should never have happened in the United States of America. Not with a simple drug that’s been around for nearly a century. The obstacle to change? The big pharma companies think they own Washington. Well they don’t own me. And they don’t own Nicole. As the lead Democrat on many bi-partisan bills in the United States, I am proud to team with members such as Sen. Grassley of Iowa to end cruel methods that put profit over people such as pay-for-delay which allows big pharma to pay off generic companies to keep their products off the market. Under a Klobuchar administration we’re going to pass meaningful legislation to bring in competitive safe drugs from other countries. We’re going to harness the negotiating power of 43 million seniors, that’s a lot of negotiating power, and lift the ban on negotiating cheaper drug prices under Medicare. And we’re going to add a public option, it’s time that Americans have access to comprehensive and affordable quality healthcare. I can get it done

3) Climatologists now say we have little more than a decade to roll back our global greenhouse gas input before disastrous irreversibility strikes. Do you agree with this assessment? If so, how would you move to lessen this nation's carbon footprint? If not, why do you believe it not to be the case?

Quote
The climate crisis isn’t happening in 100 years — it’s happening now. 2018 was the fourth-hottest year on record globally and it was another near-record year for U.S. weather and climate disasters. The dire warnings in the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the National Climate Assessment make clear that immediate action is needed. That is why I am deeply committed to tackling the climate crisis and believe that it is an urgent priority for our communities, for our economy and for our planet. I’m proud to be a co-sponsor of the Green New Deal and to have signed the No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge. On day one of a Klobuchar administration, we  will get back into the International Climate Change Agreement. On day two and day three, we will bring back and strengthen clean power rules and gas mileage standards that the Obama Administration put into place.  And we will put forward sweeping legislation that provides a landmark investment in clean-energy jobs and infrastructure, provides incentives for tougher building codes, promotes rural renewable energy and development, supports a landmark carbon pricing system that does not have a regressive impact on Americans, promotes “buy clean” policies, and puts our country on a path to achieving 100% net-zero emissions no later than 2050.

PERSONAL QUESTION) You were one of the first candidates to sign on to the "No PAC Pledge." Do you believe this could put you at a sharp disadvantage against independently wealthy candidates like Mr. Steyer?

Quote
Look, I have great respect for Mr. Steyer, he’s dedicated much of his financial success to raise awareness for important matters such as climate change and helping Democrats get elected throughout the country so credit where credit is due. However, many of my colleagues did not choose the same path as Mr. Steyer did, we chose one of public service and while we don’t have the financial resources as Mr. Steyer does we will do whatever possible to ensure that whoever the nominee is, they represent an agenda of tackling issues fiercely rather than serving corporations and lobbyists. I’m confident that my campaign will able to successfully permeate our message throughout the country even without investing my own wealth into national advertisements and such but rather building a grassroots campaign that is truly of, by, and for the people and not self or corporate financed.

Both Klobuchar and Biden, bear an image of bi-partisanship and pragmatism for both have repeatedly worked with members of the Republican Party to pass meaningful legislation. It is rumored that Biden plans to endorse and campaign for Senator Klobuchar throughout Iowa. Biden denied a run in 2016 after his son, Beau Biden, tragically died from brain cancer.

Quote from Klobuchar on the Campaign Trail

Quote
"Starting on day one of my administration, I will take aggressive executive action to confront the climate crisis. We will introduce sweeping climate legislation in the first 100 days of my presidency, but we also won’t wait for Congress when it comes to the full range of legal actions a President can take to address climate change. Specifically, in the first 100 days of my administration I will: Get the United States back into the Paris International Climate Agreement, restore the Clean Power Plan, bring back the fuel-economy standard, introduce legislation that will put our country on a path to achieving 100% net-zero emissions, and end fossil fuel subsidies.”

Klobuchar Debate Answers

Credits: Politico

Opening Statement:
Quote
I’d like to thank CNN for hosting this debate and everyone for tuning in to see this display of powerful patriotism. It’s never an easy decision to decide to run for President of the United States but everyone here has seen and had enough of all the corruption and mudslinging holding our government hostage, making the choice to do something about it is the ultimate display of love for one’s country and ultimately, I believe that what unites everyone up here, the twelve of us, is much stronger than what divides us and I think that's true of our country too. Now, I may not be the loudest person up here but it’s safe to say that the American people don’t want loud, we already have that in the White House. We need something different. I am someone that tells the truth. I am someone that doesn’t make promises that I can’t keep. I have people’s back and I believe that to win you bring people with you and that is how you govern, not by making cheap insults and permeating unfounded rhetoric but by uniting the country, blue and red, to get things done for the American people. That is exactly what I have done in the United States Senate. As the lead Democratic Senator for the most bills, I can tell you that it’s not easy to pass more than 100 bills through Congress but nevertheless, we did it. From pushing to lower the price of prescription drugs to investing in wind and solar development, I can get the job done. Might I also add that some of my female colleagues are up on this stage and I think it’s great to have a historic number of women running for public office, just look at our records and you’ll see we too can get the job done. Now, you’re going to hear a lot of ideas up here, some will be great and some will not, but if you feel stuck in the middle of the extremes in our politics and you are tired of the noise and the nonsense, you’ve got a home with me. Because I don’t want to be the president for half of America -- I want to be the president for all of America.

Question: Many Americans continue to believe that climate change is a hoax, as propagated by former President Trump and Alex Jones. How would you attempt to convince these people of the science behind climate change?

Answer:
Quote
The climate crisis isn’t happening in 100 years — it’s happening now. 2018 was the fourth-hottest year on record globally and it was another near-record year for U.S. weather and climate disasters. The dire warnings in the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change make clear that immediate action is needed and lays out how displacement and destruction caused by climate-related natural disasters threaten our economy and national security. The facts are clear, climate change is real and we don’t have enough time to debate the politics of it because it is an existential crisis so to those discredit this phenomenon are blatantly overlooking science and the only thing we can do, is present the evidence and get to work. That is why I am deeply committed to tackling the climate crisis because it is an urgent priority for our communities, for our economy and for our planet. That is why I am a co-sponsor of the Green New Deal and have signed the No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge.  On day one of my presidency I will get us back into the International Climate Change Agreement. On day two and day three, I will bring back and strengthen clean power rules and gas mileage standards that the Obama Administration put into place.  And I will put forward sweeping legislation that provides a landmark investment in clean-energy jobs and infrastructure, provides incentives for tougher building codes, promotes rural renewable energy and development, supports a landmark carbon pricing system that does not have a regressive impact on Americans, promotes “buy clean” policies, and puts our country on a path to achieving 100% net-zero emissions no later than 2050.

Closing Statement:
Quote
As we come to a close, it’s important to understand that no matter whoever the nominee is, they must be able to build a united and energized grassroots coalition across the country that can go toe to toe with the Republican nominee. I’ve done this. I was born and raised in America’s heartland, what many people consider fly-over country I consider home and it is in this home where I got the famous grit many Senators have found burns inside of me. It is with this grit that I was able to become the first female Senator of Minnesota, winning both blue and red across the state. It is with this grit that I was able to bi-partisanly pass the most bills out of any Democratic Senator. And it is with this grit that I will fight to improve the lives and futures of every single American. From tackling Climate Change and the effects it has to our economy, communities (especially ones of color), and health to investing in our crumbling infrastructure more so than any other candidate on this stage has proposed. I know I can get it done because I’ve got the track sheet to show it, I just need your support to make it reality. Together America, we can push and spread the message for pragmatic progress, join our movement at amyklobuchar.com. Thank you.

Klobuchar Reveals Iowa Endorsements

Dave Loebsack - Iowa Congressman (IA-2)

Quote
Iowa Congressman Dave Loebsack, has endorsed Amy Klobuchar’s campaign for President of the United States. Loebsack, a seven-term congressman, represents the Second Congressional District in southeast Iowa. In presidential races, it's a purple district where Former President Donald Trump garnered 49% of the vote in 2016, more than Democrat Hillary Clinton. Several counties in the district voted for Trump after voting for former President Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012. Loebsack endorsed Obama in 2007, before Obama won the 2008 caucuses. Loebsack said in a statement released by the Klobuchar campaign, “Iowans and our country face great challenges like climate change, increasing health care costs, and an economy that isn't working for the majority of Americans, they can't be solved with the same political warfare that is on display in Washington. Amy is the candidate that can heal our divides, restore decency to the presidency and bring this country together.” The Klobuchar campaign spokesperson confirmed that Loebsack will be joining Klobuchar on the campaign trail throughout Iowa.

Tom Harkin - Former Senator of Iowa

Quote
Former Iowa Senator Tom Harkin, has endorsed Amy Klobuchar’s campaign for President of the United States. Harkin served in the United States Senate for 30 years beginning in 1985 and he only recently retired at the start of 2015. Beloved by Democrats in Iowa, he carries perhaps the most influence within the party in the Hawkeye State. He endorsed Howard Dean, a favorite of liberal activists, in 2004. In 2008, he declined to endorse either Clinton or Barack Obama before the caucuses. In a statement released by the Klobuchar campaign, Harkin states “As Democrats, we’re fortunate to have a slate of candidates that are all fine individuals, but we need a fighter who has a record of getting things done and the vision for the future that will build on the progress we’ve made. For my wife, Ruth and I, that candidate is Amy Klobuchar.” Harkin noted that he shares “many of the same deeply-held beliefs” as Amy Klobuchar, highlighting his views on providing access to quality and affordable healthcare, ensuring universal pre-kindergarten to families, and building a “clean-energy economy.” Harkin was also well-known for hosting an annual political fundraiser, The Harkin Steak Fry, which drew Democratic candidates for president every four years.

Amy’s Climate Change Plan for Rural America

Credits: amyklobuchar.com

Mobilizing the Heartland

Amy is a strong voice from the Midwest when it comes to climate change. She will give rural areas the tools they need to be leaders in clean energy production, support agricultural practices that take on climate change and make sure the heartland benefits from rebuilding a green America
.

Support rural clean energy production.
Clean energy, including wind and solar, is a major driver of job growth in rural areas. In fact, 99 percent of operating wind capacity is located in rural areas. As part of Senator Klobuchar’s plan to tackle climate change, she will prioritize rural energy development, including expanding storage capacity and strengthening our energy grid. And as we continue to develop advanced biofuel technologies, she will strengthen the renewable fuel standard.

  • Invest in wind and solar and support rural energy development. As President, Senator Klobuchar will invest in interregional transmission lines and grid improvements to support the development of renewable energy. She will launch a grant program to help rural cooperatives develop energy storage and microgrid projects for renewable energy generation, transmission and storage. She will also support increased investment in small, distributed wind, solar and biogas projects.
  • Provide technical resources for small, rural energy producers and distributors. As President, Senator Klobuchar will push for new economic and environmental opportunities in rural America by investing in rural renewable energy development and by passing and signing into law her bipartisan Expanding Access to Sustainable Energy (EASE) Act to provide rural electric cooperatives access to technical resources and expertise to overcome the barriers to renewable energy storage and grid improvements.
  • Investing in and providing incentives for homegrown energy. Senator Klobuchar believes that homegrown biofuels are an important part of our rural economies, our nation’s energy security and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In the Senate, she has been a leader when it comes to standing up to the Administration’s misuse of small refinery renewable fuel standard waivers. She has also worked successfully in the Senate to provide financing and grant support to biobased manufacturers.

Use green infrastructure investment to strengthen rural communities.
There is a significant infrastructure backlog in rural America. From roads and bridges to levees and stormwater systems many rural areas face infrastructure challenges that will be difficult to address without federal investment. Upgrading rural infrastructure to meet our climate goals will also provide an opportunity to address the backlog and overcome infrastructure challenges that are holding back rural America.

  • Strengthen rural transportation infrastructure. Rural transportation infrastructure is at risk from the effects of climate change. As President, Senator Klobuchar will invest in the repair and improvement of rural bridges that are not part of the federal-aid highway network and invest to improve inland waterways and ports, including funding to modernize and expand outdated locks and restore ecosystems along the Mississippi.
  • Expand energy efficiency programs. Energy costs can be a significant burden on farms, small businesses and households in rural communities. Senator Klobuchar has long worked to see that we have the resources needed to provide grants to farms and rural businesses to install energy efficient technologies, and she will continue to push for additional resources. In the Senate, she authored bipartisan legislation that was signed into law that empowers the nonprofit community to make energy-efficiency improvements to their buildings and offices.
  • Upgrade levees to account for more frequent and severe floods. The floods we saw throughout the Midwest this year show why we cannot wait to upgrade our levees so they can protect communities from more frequent and severe floods. Senator Klobuchar will make upgrading levees a major focus of her infrastructure investment in the heartland.
  • Update the rural housing stock. Much of the existing rural housing stock is outdated and in poor condition, which contributes to the rural housing crisis. Investments in weatherizing and updating homes and their heating and cooling systems will build value and help renew the rural housing stock.
  • Bring high-speed broadband to every household and business in America. Broadband access can reduce commuting and make business and farms more efficient. In an effort to close the rural-urban divide, Senator Klobuchar has previously announced a commitment to connect every household in America to high-speed internet by 2022. She will focus on creating accurate broadband maps to identify areas that lack adequate access, bringing high-speed internet infrastructure to areas most in need, including by expanding Rural Utility Service grants, and providing greater incentives for existing providers to upgrade their networks to cover unserved and underserved areas.

Quote from Senator Klobuchar on the 1st Democratic Debate

Quote
“I’m happy to see my vision resound across the country. The American people are responding positively to the message our campaign is trying to permeate. This message is of bi-partisanship, leadership, and pragmatic progress and it’s clear that the United States doesn’t need louder voices of hate, we’ve already had enough of that. What we need is to restore the soul and morality of our country and her leaders, that is what I have promised to do, it’s time to unite the country and push a bold agenda that works for all not the few and I look forward to continue to spread these ideals on the campaign trail and at the next debates. Let’s do this America”

Amy's Infrastructure Plan

Credits: The Verge

Amy is proposing a bold, trillion-dollar plan to rebuild America’s infrastructure, invest in our future, and create millions of good-paying American jobs. Amy’s infrastructure plan will be her top budget priority, and she will work to get it done during the first year of her presidency. And she has a proven track record of delivering results. America needs a President who will get things done and pass progressive policies that keep our country moving. As President, Amy will focus on seven areas of infrastructure investment. Her plan will:

Repair and replace our roads, highways, and bridges.

The collapse of the 35W Bridge was a tragic reminder that America has failed to maintain the roads, bridges, and other public infrastructure that keep our people safe and our economy strong. Amy will make smart investments to repair and replace our roads and highways, reduce congestion, upgrade America’s over 50,000 structurally deficient bridges, fix the roads and bridges washed out by the recent floods in the Midwest, eliminate the “pothole tax,” and stabilize the Highway Trust Fund. A world-class transportation system will increase our safety and lower costs for commuters and businesses that depend on getting goods to market.

Provide protection against flooding and update and modernize our airports, seaports and inland waterways.
Amy will increase public investment in our airports and modernize our aviation system so air travel is safe and efficient. She also understands that the economies of many communities depend on America’s inland waterways and ports and that allowing these assets to fall into disrepair hurts our economy. That’s why Amy is committed to updating our ports, locks, and dams, as well as investing in our inland waterways to accommodate anticipated growth in waterborne traffic. And beyond waterborne cargo, Amy’s plan will invest in updating our levees and provide critical additional protection against the serious threat of flooding.

Expand reliable public transit options and update rail infrastructure.
Our country’s investments in public transit have not kept pace with the demand for reliable public transportation, particularly for low-income communities and communities of color. Amy will increase investments in public transit with a focus on decreasing barriers to opportunity and reducing our energy consumption, overhaul our rail infrastructure when it comes to freight and passenger rail, and bring high-speed rail to more communities. These investments will strengthen our communities and make it safer and easier to get to work and school.

Rebuild our schools and overhaul our country’s housing policy.
K-12 public schools represent the nation’s second-largest infrastructure sector and the condition of school buildings is critical for advancing student performance, classroom learning, and student health. A 2017 survey found that half of America’s public school buildings need improvements to be considered in “good” condition. And while school building conditions are a national problem, the disrepair of America’s public schools disproportionately affects students in low-income communities that cannot raise funds for maintenance, repair, or modernization. Amy will fix our crumbling and unsafe schools, update the physical and digital infrastructure needs of our schools, and establish an ongoing role for the federal government to invest in school infrastructure. All students deserve a good learning environment, regardless of where they live. Amy will release a comprehensive housing policy in the weeks to come.

Connect every household to the internet by 2022.
Roughly one in four rural Americans say access to high-speed internet is a major problem. That’s why as President, Amy will connect every household in America to the internet by 2022. Amy’s plan will help close the urban-rural divide by creating accurate broadband maps to identify areas that lack adequate access, focus on bringing high-speed internet infrastructure to areas most in need, and provide greater incentives for existing providers to use funds to upgrade their networks to cover unserved and underserved areas. Broadband creates jobs, opens new economic opportunities, and allows America to compete and succeed in an increasingly digital world.

Build Climate Smart and Green infrastructure.
Amy’s plan makes a down payment on transforming our economy from one reliant on fossil fuels to one that depends on clean energy. That means sweeping legislation that invests in green infrastructure, modernizes our aging energy infrastructure so that it is secure and efficient, strengthens bioenergy capabilities, puts incentives in place to overhaul our building codes, and invests in energy efficiency retrofits and rural renewable energy development. Amy will also help states and cities plan for the impacts of climate change by building stronger, more resilient transportation networks and public infrastructure to withstand rising sea levels, a changing climate, and extreme weather. This means good-paying jobs for people across the country, investments that ensure cleaner and greener communities and workplaces, and a commitment to doing something real about climate change.

Ensure Clean Water
For far too long, America has been underinvesting in the drinking and wastewater systems that keep our communities healthy and safe. Amy will make a historic commitment to addressing our drinking and wastewater infrastructure so that all Americans — including those in low-income communities, communities of color, and rural communities — have reliable access to safe and clean water. Amy will also make a serious investment in sewer and sanitation systems. She is committed to protecting public health for all communities, especially the most vulnerable populations, and to ensuring that communities have the resources they need to immediately respond to any water-related crisis.

Senator Klobuchar Unveils New Endorsements

Steve Sisolak - Governor of Nevada

Credits: Human Rights Campaign

The Democratic governor, a single father to two adult daughters, started his political career in 1998, when he was elected to serve on the Nevada System of Higher Education’s Board of Regents. Three subsequent stints on the Clark County Board of Commissioners saw him gain a reputation as a tenacious presence at public meetings, where he hasn't always shied away from loud, red-faced exchanges with a fellow commissioner, or even the county sheriff. He's also known as a formidable campaign foe, a ferocious fundraiser with a big personality and no shortage of high-powered political allies, among them former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and President Barack Obama. Governor Sisolak announced his support for Senator Amy Klobuchar after weeks of discussions with many of the candidates, stating that “Amy’s tenacious personality and her vision of a collected country among her many years of service in Washington D.C. shows she has the right ideas and character to serve as Commander-in-chief. I look forward to joining her on the campaign trail across the Silver State.”

Steven Horsford - U.S. Representative from Nevada (NV-D4)

Steven Horsford is a businessman serving as the U.S. Representative for Nevada's 4th congressional district since 2019, previously holding the position from 2013 to 2015. A member of the Democratic Party, he served in the Nevada Senate, representing the 4th district, in Clark County, from 2005 to 2013. Horsford was the first African American to serve as Majority Leader (2009–2013) and the first African American to represent Nevada in Congress. Regarding his endorsement of Klobuchar, Horsford stated that “Amy is the strongest candidate in the field to defeat Pence demonstrating her ability to unite the country and win swing states like mine. Senator Klobuchar has also repeatedly demonstrated her devotion to communities of color, spreading her message of bringing people of all races and zipcodes together.”

League of Latin American United Citizens

The League of United Latin American Citizens, the largest and oldest Hispanic civil rights organization has revealed its coveted support for Senator Amy Klobuchar for President of the United States. The organization stated that “Amy has been chosen as our endorsement because of her passion and involvement in the Hispanic community fighting for health care and immigration reform, stronger hate crimes protection, improved education and the elimination of discrimination. While the Senator clearly does not share our culture, she has fiercely protected and worked on the issues that matter to Latinos across the country.”

Klobuchar 2020 Campaign Schedule

Credits: NBC News

May - Iowa (May 1st-20th), Nevada (21st-31st)

Throughout the month of May, Senator Amy Klobuchar focused on the states of Iowa and Nevada, spending roughly half of the month in each. The Minnesota Senator is joined in Iowa by Vice-President Joseph Biden, Representative Dave Loebsack, and Former Senator Tom Harkin as they all have all announced their support for the 2020 candidate and pledged to campaign alongside her. Senator Klobuchar revealed her massive Infrastructure Plan garnering support from officials and unions across the Hawkeye State. The Senator additionally placed much attention to the Silver State where she recently announced the endorsements of Governor Steve Sisolak, Representative Steven Horsford, and the LULAC among her already released endorsement from Senator Catherine Cortez Masto. While in the state of Nevada, Klobuchar enfocused on the Hispanic Community holding town halls moderated by UnidosUS and meeting with Latino Labor Unions. The following is a quote from the Senator while campaigning in Des Moines, Iowa:

Quote
“I've put together a plan that is paid for. It's not just a mirage. The President keeps talking about infrastructure, but he really hasn't put the money down that you'd need. I believe we can get this done, and it's my number one priority. We’re going to rebuild America's infrastructure, invest in our future, and create millions of good-paying American jobs. Our proposal does just that. It places a tight focus on the country's transportation system, which will turn into a "world-class" system that will better serve low-income communities and communities of color. It calls for the repairing and replacing of roads, highways and bridges, as well as an expansion of public transportation and the creation of high-speed rail systems. It aims to connect every American household to the internet by 2022 which will have tremendous benefits such as creating jobs, opening new economic opportunities, and allowing America to compete and succeed in an increasingly digital world. It also places an emphasis on climate change and the country's reliance on fossil fuels and investing in green infrastructure, modernizing our aging energy infrastructure and investing in renewable energy development. Our nation’s infrastructure is one of my first major policy rollout because it has been so long neglected and someone has to take the lead on infrastructure. It is something where there is common agreement, there always has been, and it's an example of something that I believe we could easily get done in the first year. I believe there is a will to get it done across the nation and I’m proud to be the first campaign to reflect that"

June - Iowa (June 1st-20th), Nevada (June 21st-30th)

Throughout the month of June, Senator Klobuchar once again split her time between Iowa and Nevada. The Minnesota Senator, continued to campaign with her Iowa and Nevada surrogates along with the opening of many new campaign offices in those two states. Klobuchar also released an ad in the Hawkeye State in light of her 99-county tour which has demonstrated to be a massive success. The Senator has also released an ad in the state in the Silver State featuring Catherine Cortez Masto, Steve Sisolak, and Steven Horsford delineating why they support her for Presidential campaign. The following is a quote from the Senator while campaigning in Cedar Rapids, Iowa:

Quote
“America needs a strong voice from the Midwest when it comes to climate change. In the Senate, I have lead the fight to combat climate change by serving on the Senate Climate Action Taskforce, I’ve fought for legislation to reduce greenhouse gases, and have led a Senate resolution recognizing that global climate change is occurring and will continue to pose ongoing risks unless we take action. I’ve authored legislation setting a national renewable electricity standard and have successfully extended renewable energy production tax credits. The first bill I ever introduced was a carbon counter bill to establish the first national greenhouse gas registry to track emissions by major industries. We can’t wait. That’s why I’m committed to taking immediate action, without Congress, to transform our energy sector, unlock scientific breakthroughs, hold the fossil fuel industry accountable, and support workers and communities that are on the front lines of the climate crisis.”

July - Iowa (July 1st-15th), Nevada (July 16th-21st), New Hampshire (July 22nd-31st)

Throughout the month of July, Senator Klobuchar continued to place much of her effort into the states of Iowa and Nevada while adding a trip to the Granite State. Senator Klobuchar shifted her attention to lowering the cost of prescription drug prices highlighting her legislation in the United States Senate with Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley among many other pieces of legislation. Among this, the Minnesota Native opened various campaign offices throughout Nevada where she has begun an intensive effort to win the second caucus of the primary. The Senator has made her first appearance in New Hampshire, meeting with various state officials and opening her first campaign office in the state. The following is a quote from Senator Klobuchar while campaigning in Reno, Nevada:

Quote
“Everywhere I go, I meet seniors who tell me about their struggles to afford everyday costs like prescription drugs or health care. I meet family members who face challenges caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s and urgent action is needed to take on these problems. I believe we owe it to our seniors to make sure they have the care and support they need as they get older, and as President I will prioritize tackling Alzheimer’s, strengthening health care and retirement security, and reducing prescription drug costs. As President,  I will continue to stand up for our seniors and the 10,000 Americans who turn 65 each day.”

Klobuchar 2020 Schedule

Credits: Flickr

August - Iowa (August 1st-31st)

Throughout the month of August, Senator Klobuchar devoted her entire efforts to the Hawkeye State announcing another tour with surrogates Joseph Biden,  Congressman Dave Loebsack, and Former Senator Tom Harkin. The Minnesota Senator continues her massive push in the state after multiple polls showed her in the lead  or tied for first in the state along with a handful of influential Iowa endorsements. Senator Klobuchar shifted her policy to healthcare as she reveals her plan to build off of the Affordable Care Act and the legislation she has proposed in the United States Senate regarding prescription drug prices.

September - Iowa (Septemeber 1st-6th) & Nevada (September 7th-18th) & South Carolina (September 19th-31st)

Throughout the month of September, Senator Klobuchar divided her efforts between the Hawkeye, Palmetto, and Silver State as the first and the latter seem to be the largest areas of attention from her Presidential Campaign. The Senator revealed her immigration plan and discussed how she would go about protecting and fighting for DACA recipients. Among this, she discussed the horrific conditions at the detention sites near the border, stating that America’s morality and world-wide perception needs to be restored, we are not a country that will permit this cruel treatment. The following is a quote from Senator Klobuchar while campaigning in Las Vegas, Nevada:

Quote
“One last obstacle which we must overcome to move forward together is that of stopping the fear-mongering and stopping the hate. We may come from different places. We may pray in different ways. We may look different. And love different. But we all live in the same country of shared dreams. In Minnesota we have the biggest Somali population in the country. And we’re very proud of that community. A few years ago at the height of the angry rhetoric, a Somali-American family of four went out to dinner. This guy walked by, looked down at them and said “you four go home. Go home to where you came from.” And the little girl looks up at her mom and said “Mom, I don’t want to go home. You said we could eat out tonight. I don’t want to eat dinner at home.” Think of the innocence of that little girl. She didn’t even know what he was talking about. Because she only knows one home. And that home is our state. She only knows one home, and that home, that home is the United States of America.”

October - Nevada (October 1st-15th) & New Hampshire (October 16th-31st)

Throughout the month of October, Senator Klobuchar halted her Iowa push instead focusing on the Silver and Granite States. The Senator continued a batch of town halls hosted by UnidosUS and other Latino Civil Rights Organizations. While in New Hampshire, the Senator discussed the growing income inequality among equal pay in the workplace between genders and races. Mrs. Klobuchar also met with many labor unions across the two states and joined workers in striking for a $15 minimum wage. The following is a quote from Senator Klobuchar while campaigning in Concord, New Hampshire:

Quote
“I stand strongly with you in your fight for $15. We must ensure that every American, no matter their color or gender, has the ability to provide for themselves and for their families. The current federal minimum wage is grossly negligent of that so that’s why I’m proud to join my colleague Senator Cory Booker, in making the Living Wage Pledge. It’s time for the United States to stand firm behind it’s promise of guaranteed prosperity and happiness as well as  reaffirm our commitment to abolish all poverty from the single greatest developed nation in the world. We can do this, I’m with you in this fight”

Klobuchar 2nd Debate Answers

Credits: Politico

Quote
Opening Statement: Thank you Anderson. Look America, the division we’ve seen from this White House is polarizing our country further every single day. We need someone to head up this ticket that actually brings people together instead of shutting them out and when you look at a state like Minnesota where we received the highest voter turnout of any state in the country, we can win by reaching those independents and soon to be former republicans that are looking for a candidate that’s not in the extremes but in the middle. We can win by preaching to those that are tired of the noise and the nonsense and have had enough of such lack of empathy from this White House. Together we can win back the Heartland of America, together we can pass an agenda where every single American is paid a minimum of $15 an hour, where every single American has access to affordable prescription drugs, and where every single American regardless of color, gender, or sexuality is treated with respect, dignity, and value.

Question: You and Senator Baldwin are Senators from neighboring states, yet you've been running almost on opposite sides of the field to each other. Why do you think a more moderate approach is better for the nation?

Quote
Answer: Look Anderson, while I may disagree with many of the candidates up on this stage, it is our duty as Democrats to unite behind whichever candidate becomes our nominee and I pledge to do just that. As you all know, we have differences in our policies and in our approach to how we can not only win this election and defeat one of the most consequential presidents in American history, but also to how we can heal the morality and dignity of our country after the amount of hatred and division we’ve seen the last couple of months which has largely, and sadly, been fueled by the comments of the President. I fully believe we can restore the great American promise and character by uniting the country, red and blue, if we truthfully speak and give real solutions to the issues Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike face because in the end we have so much more in common than what separates us. That means we have to nominate someone that has a proven record of being able to bring all sides to the table and compromise when need be so we can finally put the interests of the country ahead. That means we have to nominate someone that has demonstrated leadership in office and that is willing to fight when the interests and security of our nation is at stake. That means we have to nominate someone that doesn’t spread those ineffective innuendos against those that disagree with her, something which this White House has lacked. Democrats, now is the time to stand up for a vision that is wholesome and grasps our powerful potential because once we stand as one, nothing can stop us. That is the message my campaign has been spreading, so if you are sick of the noise and the nonsense, the extreme impractical ideas, you’ve got a home with me.

Quote
Closing Statement: Look America, it’s clear that I don’t have the biggest name up on this stage nor do I have the biggest bank account but what I do have is a record of standing up for the people and getting things done. From fighting to prevent a scenario where you have to choose between paying the rent and paying for those life-saving drugs, I have fought for you and I am in this fight for you. I believe we need someone that is able to unite all corners and coasts of our country and move not left and not right but forward. Together we can regain that bold American spirit and deliver on the great American promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Walt Whitman, the great American poet, once wrote these words: “I hear America singing, the varied carols I hear.” For Whitman those were the songs of the mechanics, the carpenters, the masons and the shoemakers. And those carols are still being sung today.  They are now also the songs of our sisters and brothers, a chorus of different faiths, races, creeds and ways of life. E pluribus unum. Out of many, one. It is more than a motto. It is the North Star of our democracy. It is the North Star of this effort. I’m asking you to join us on this campaign. It’s a homegrown one. I don’t have a political machine. I don’t come from money. But what I do have is this: I have grit. I have family. I have friends. I have neighbors. I have all of you who took the time to watch us today, all of you who are willing to stand up and say people matter. I’m asking you to not look down and not look away. I’m asking you to look up. To look at each other. To look to the future before us. Let us rise to the occasion and meet the challenges of our day. Thank you.

Klobuchar Airs New Hampshire TV Ad

TV Advertisement #2

Quote
America deserves a President who has their back, who demonstrates empathy in their leadership..Who isn’t afraid to take on powerful forces. Who has a record of bringing people together.

Quote
And most importantly, who can get things done. I know what it takes to win in the Midwest, it’s not a flyover country to me. It’s home
.

Quote
America, there is a complete lack of empathy from this White House, I will restore it. If you have trouble paying the rent, I hear you and I will fight for you. If you have trouble paying for those prescription drugs, I hear you and I will fight for you. If you can’t afford to pay for the groceries and pay for a quality education, I will fight for you.

Quote
I’m Amy Klobuchar and I approve this message.”
