Election Update 2020
with your hosts, Tucker Carlson and Mark Levin

Carlson: Good evening. I'm Tucker Carlson.

Levin: And I'm Mark Levin. And this is your first Fox News election update.

Carlson: And this week marked by active campaigning by numerous candidates across the early states, as well as Senator Gillibrand's release of a new slogan: "Kirsten has a plan for that."

Levin: Many other news stories, as well, which you can check up on at foxnews.com.

Carlson: Numerous endorsements also flying, with almost all candidates receiving at least one.

Carlson: That said, tonight we have a very special guest, the President of the United States, Mike Pence. President Pence, glad to have you on here.

Pence: Glad to be here, Tucker.

Carlson: Glad to hear it, Mr. President. Now, you’ve had quite the time with Congress these past few months, with both successes and failures. What do you believe is to blame for the defeat of some of your relatively popular legislation?

Pence: Well, it was indeed quite a time, and I just want to point out that basically every piece of legislation that I proposed was liked by the American people. They thought that I was proposing very needed changes that would solve the issues of our time, or at least make progress towards solving them. The defeats of the tax reform bill and school choice bill, since I think that you are talking about them, had multiple causes. I have seen one of the biggest efforts in my lifetime for the defeat of the tax reform bill. This efforts were made by the DC swamp that has been fighting bills in favor of the people for decades. They were so opposed to this bill for three main reasons: 1. It was eliminating the carried interest loophole and it started the process of closing up all other loopholes from which they, despite their socialist rhetoric, have saved a lot of money, 2. The tax cuts were basically a guarantee of cuts happening in the bloated government bureaucracy where they all have their interests, their allies. It's quite horrible what's happening there and 3. They didn't want me to succeed. They know that I have been fighting them for my entire political career and didn't want to give me a victory, but ultimately they denied the people a victory. The actions taken by the corrupt Democratic Koch for example were so blatantly illegal that he should be in jail for them. The Senate traitors didn't help either. However, my Administration isn't abandoning tax reform. We will propose a new version in January, hopefully the lobbying reforms made the swamp weaker and we will be able to pass this badly needed bill. Now, the school choice act failing had a more simple cause: DC politicians losing their touch with the country, not knowing the disaster happening in public schools and sticking to party lines as if the solutions of 20 years ago can work now. They can't, and school choice is a reform without which the education system will probably collapse by 2030. We can't allow that, and we will get school choice done.

Carlson: An important line with public schools producing lower and lower test scores in comparison to other Western nations'. Now, some agitators on the left have called for your impeachment. Do you believe the House will proceed with such efforts, despite your having committed no apparent crime?

Pence: Look, this request is such a joke that I can't help but laugh at it. They have no clue on what grounds to even impeach me for, as I have done nothing illegal, unlike the Democratic Koch. In fact, I have done more for working people in my first months than years of Democratic Administrations did. And I think that even Speaker Pelosi knows that an impeachment for no reason will do them no favor with the people and will avoid it. However, let's think about it for a second. I am a Republican president passing a common sense agenda helping everyone, whether Democrat or Republican or Independent. But the leftists can't accept that just because my party color is red and are trying to impeach me. It's telling a lot about how far partisanship went in this country.

Carlson: Truly a ridiculous idea, impeachment. Now, Senators Paul and Portman, two of your strongest primary challengers (one now having suspended his campaign, of course), are both up for re-election in 2022. If you are the nominee and they fall back in line behind you, would you endorse their bids?

Pence: It is probably too soon to say. If they are the Republican nominees I will endorse them, if reluctantly, to help stop some socialist from taking over their seats, however I will not under any circumstances endorse them in the primaries, because they have shown themselves as traitors to America and their constituents, and I will carefully consider their primary opponents. If among them is one that will help me fight the swamp and bring back prosperity, I will absolutely endorse him over this swampist Senators.

Carlson: Actions always have consequences. Now, before you go, Mr. President, if you could tell the American people one thing tonight, what would it be.

Pence: My fellow Americans, I am one of you. I know your problems and I know what you want from your government. And I will fight for you to have the government that you deserve. A government not controlled by the swamp, which is able to offer its citizens the best public services in an effective way, which doesn't stand in the way of prosperity with unnecessary regulations but fights to bring prosperity to our shores, which can make the tax code fairer, the healthcare system more affordable, more quality in education and a shift in foreign policy to put America first. If you want this changes to happen, I invite you to support me. If you want variations of the status quo or worse versions of it, that's what all the others are proposing. This are your options, what will you choose for America? God bless you, and good night.

Carlson: Mr. President, always a pleasure to have you with us.

Pence: Likewise, Tucker.

Carlson: And that will be all for tonight. Tune in on Friday for our interview with Senator Amy Klobuchar.

Carlson: Until then, I'm Tucker Carlson.

Levin: And I'm Mark Levin.

Both: And this has been your Election Update.

ABRAMS DEBATE ANSWERS

Image from Flickr

Opening Statement:
Good evening Detroit! Thank you to CNN, thank you Anderson, and I want to thank our venue for hosting us tonight. I’m not only to represent our party in the next election, but I’m also running to make Mike Pence one of the shortest-serving Presidents in American history! We need a nominee that can unite the party and unite the country and I believe that I am the best candidate for that. We need a nominee that will be President of the United States, not President of the Blue States.

I’m not the loudest person on stage, but we’ve already got that fire and fury in the White House. We are tired of the divisive rhetoric and the division in this country, we already had enough of that with President Trump, we don’t need 4 more years of President Pence and his pals that would rather tear this country apart than to bring us together.

There’s an old song that my Dad used to listen to back in the day that said: “Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am stuck in the middle with you.” You’ve got some clowns and jokers on both extremes, and here you are stuck in the middle. But I’ve got news for you, I’m in the middle as well. We need a nominee that appeals to everyone, not just the extremes of both parties. We need someone that can keep the states we won in 2016, but expand our coalition and win back North Carolina, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania and also flip Georgia and Texas. We need someone who is assured victory over President Pence, I am that candidate.

You've been a proud antagonist of voter suppression since your narrow defeat in the Georgia gubernatorial race last year. As President, how would you take on voter disenfranchisement on a national scale?
Well, the first thing we must do is mandate paper ballots in all 50 states in all elections. It’s unfortunate that we currently have a Senate Majority Leader, Moscow Mitch, that refuses to put the House bill mandating paper ballots on the Senate floor. I want to applaud my good friend, Zoe Lofgren and other House Democrats for passing the bill requiring paper ballots in all elections, the SAFE Act. It’s been sitting at Moscow Mitch’s doorstep for the last few months, so what does he have to hide?

So, within my first 100 days in office, I will hopefully sign that bill into law. However, if it still hasn’t passed, then I’ll sign an executive order requiring paper ballots. A quick way to assure that it passes is by giving Senate control back to the Democrats. If you want to do that, please donate to Jaime Harrison, Sara Gideon, Cal Cunningham, Theresa Greenfield, Mark Kelly, and all of our friends running to take the Senate back.

Once I’m in office, we will make election day a national holiday! We’re going to have same-day voter registration. What is the purpose of closing registration dates weeks before voting begins? We should encourage people to vote, not discourage them with useless deadlines!

Right after I lose the Georgia governor’s election last year, I founded Fair Fight, a group dedicated to fighting voter suppression. Just a few weeks ago, Governor Brian Kemp purged the voter rolls of thousands of African American voters across the state of Georgia. Shame. On. You, Governor Kemp. When I am president, this will end, period.

Closing Statement:

I had a closing statement planned, but I just saw a hero and a legend in my book, Congressman John Lewis. I am grateful to him. He marched for us. If it were not for him, Senators Booker and Harris wouldn’t be up here on stage with me. So thank you, Congressman Lewis.

There is a man in the White House who is wanting to take health care away from millions of Americans, he wants to deport Dreamers who just want a shot at the American dream, he wants to keep unregistered guns on the streets, he wants to lower the quality of public education, he wants to cut government programs that keep people off the streets, he is doing everything in his power to bring down this great nation.

I am a product of good public education, a product of welfare programs that kept my family off the streets when we were kicked out of an apartment building simply because we were black. If I can paint a picture for you, things are better than they were 50 years ago, but we must do more.

This Sunday, I will be joined by a group that is near and dear to my heart, who has been at the forefront of the movement to stop gun violence for once and for all. Join me in Parkland, Florida this Sunday for a special rally to stop gun violence.

Once again I want to thank Detroit, thank CNN and our moderator, Anderson for hosting the debate tonight. I want to speak directly to Republicans, Democrats, and Independents across the nation. If you are tired of the divisiveness. If you are tired of turning on the TV and groaning, thinking “What have they done now?” If you are tired of the rhetoric. If you’re tired of the lying, tired of the pain, then you’ve got a home with me. Thank you for giving me the opportunity, and I hope I earn your vote.

John Stewart debate answers
[/u][/b]

opening statement: Well first things first, it is truly amazing that I find myself up here with senators, governors, and billionaires. Not that terrible for a second-rate comedian.

In this campaign, I fully intend to give it my best shot. THis country is not in good shape; middle class is disappearing, wages are stagnant, jobs are disappearing, Wall Street is getting trillions and we have an administration determined to make sure this continues. We've already seen the results of this before . . . something called feudalism? I don't know, I might be remembering my high school history classes wrongly.

I'm the one of the outsiders on this stage, I don't think many people would deny that. I did a show that was *literally* fake news, but something happened. I noticed that people were getting left behind. The 9/11 first responders were just the tip of the iceberg. Weneed to get the nation back on track.

Question response:  . . . Okay two things. First off, it was a silly name Bill O'Reilly came up with for people who watched when I hosted The Daily Show. Those fans then took up the name for themselves. I find it ironic that the stoned slackers, when having their knowledge of new tested, actually scored higher than people who watched Bill's show, but anyway.

Second, i am absolutely taking this seriously, but you need to be a bit lively! I mean come on, I think the Republicans have the 'boring old white guys in suits' thing down already. Well, I say that, and then I have to realise I'm a boring old white guy in a suit.

If you don't think I'm taking this seriously, then maybe I should talk about a few things that this campaign is about. Bumping up the minimum wage to $15 an hour, a National Retraining Scheme for coal miners who are being left high and dry by their employers. Money being invested into upgrading and modernising critical infrastructure, and building green energy plants and a national high-speed railroad network. Medicare for All. Hiking taxes on the wealthy so they start paying their share and to regulate Wall Street bankers effectively.

I am absolutely taking this seriously, but I don't want to be just another talking head. I want to stand out.

Closing statement: Again, I just want to express my amazement that I'm even being given the time of day here. I never expected to even be running for President, let alone on a debate stage, so I want to thank everyone else sharing the stage with me up here tonight, the moderators and of course the great city of Detroit, Michigan!

We badly need to revitalise this country. We have an economy geared towards the welathiest citziens, and they're laughing all the way to the bank with everything this administration has been done. I completely agree with Stacey, Mike Pence must be made one of the shortest-serving Presidents in American history!

Tammy Baldwin Debate Answers

Quote
Opening statement:

“Thank you Detroit, CNN, and our audience for being a part of this debate tonight. Throughout my career, I’ve found myself accidentally making history. Way back in the 90s, I became the first openly gay woman to be elected in Congress, then in 2012, I became the first openly LGBTQ person elected to the Senate. I didn’t do this by being afraid of big, bold ideas. I did this through communicating a progressive vision for our country and building a diverse coalition around these goals.

This administration has stood squarely in the way of progress, and has worked in every way possible to actively push us backwards on LGBTQ issues, healthcare, and on the wealthy paying their fair share. The way Democrats combat a challenge like this isn’t by being afraid, fear has never won us an election. Democrats win when we fight for the American people, and that’s what I’ve done in office, whether it’s been for a living wage, for the equality of LGBTQ people, or to hold corporations accountable for the treatment of their workers. I plan on continuing this fight as your nominee, and as President.”

Quote
Senator Baldwin: Unlike many of the candidates on this stage, you have openly voiced support for Medicare for All as Senator Bernie Sanders originally envisioned it. Why do you think it is the best system for the American people?

“It’s because I have personal experience with this. When I was nine, I was diagnosed with a serious childhood illness and spent three months in the hospital. After I was better, my grandparents who raised me, looked for an insurance policy that could cover me moving forward. Time and time again, they were rejected. I had a brand new label, “pre-existing condition,” which forced them to pay out of pocket for my healthcare. The Affordable Care Act stopped insurance companies from denying coverage to families in the same position as I was. But, as I’ve said since I was in the Wisconsin legislature, our ultimate goal should be universal healthcare coverage. Medicare For All doesn’t just get us there, it also simplifies a complex system, makes healthcare more affordable, and reduces prescription drug costs. It’s time for us to move towards a system that guarantees high quality, affordable healthcare, and codifies the fact that healthcare is a human right.”

Quote
Closing statement:

“I stand on this stage incredibly grateful. I’m grateful for my grandparents, who took me in while my mother battled her addiction, took care of me while I was sick, and worked to pay for my healthcare when insurance companies left us with no options. I’m grateful for my home state of Wisconsin, which elected Democrats to every statewide office in 2018. Mostly, I’m grateful for the grassroots support that has gotten me on this stage with such a talented field of Democrats and propelled this campaign.

One of the greatest honors I’ve had traveling the country has been hearing your stories. I’ve been stopped at every event by someone who has their insurance thanks to the ACA, by young people who are saddled with enormous student loan debt, by those who are worried what will happen to their newfound right to marry under a second term for this administration. I’m inspired by each of these stories to keep the fight alive, to pass Medicare for All, The Equality Act, and cancel student loan debt. Without all of you, this isn’t possible, but together, we can accomplish this and so much more. As your nominee, I promise to keep this fight alive. Thank you!”

Election 2020 Debate by Maine Public Broadcasting, on Flickr

Tom Steyer Debate Answers

Opening Statement
Thank you Anderson. Fellow Americans and patriots, this election is the most important so far in our lives. We have a big decision to make between two starkly different futures. We can pick continuing the Trump/Pence disaster. Corruption, pay for play, pollution of our politics and environment, and blatant disregard of the constitution. Or we can pick a new path, we can elect a Democrat, anybody on this stage would be an improvement over our erratic, out of control President. We can pick climate change denial and fear mongering, or we can pick sound policy aiming to lift up working families and clean up our environment. I believe I'm the man to clean up Washington and restore trust in government. I'm an outsider, I have three decades of private sector experience. I've spent my time building a business, not cozying up with Washington lobbyists. If elected I'll end the corruption that's got our government stuck and push for progressive policies to fight climate change, rebuild the middle class, and create quality jobs. It's time to end the Trump/Pence disaster, and I think I'm the man to do it.

The President has commonly referred to you as the "Democratic Koch," and you have responded that he is "afraid of your progressive movement." Do you believe your vast personal wealth is part of the cause of that fear?
Unlike the President, who started his political career complaining about working women on the radio and saying cigarettes don't kill. I started my career not in politics at all but starting a business. I helped create quality jobs, and now I'm trying to give back. I've signed the Giving Pledge and I'm running for President on a platform of making me, and people like me to pay a lot, a lot more in taxes.  Look, I'm proud of my business record, although I expect Mike to run away from his record. Such as when he tried to redefine rape on an abortion bill.

The bottom line is this. Mike Pence is erratic, radical, and dangerous. He's trying to pass an agenda to gut our public schools, appoint corrupt ultra conservatives to every level of government, and follow the legacy of the Trump catastrophe. Not to mention, he won't stop tweeting about me. Every day it's a new all caps tweet. Yeah he's afraid of our movement. He knows I'd beat him in November, and pretty badly too. I look forward to doing that.

Closing Statements
Let me be very clear, everybody on this stage would be an improvement from the Trump/Pence cataclysm. Senator Booker fought the Newark political machine, Governor Bullock's captained Montana like no other, Senator Klobuchar's spent a career fighting for positive change, Ms. Abrams has been fighting for the poor and downtrodden for so many years, and that's just to name a few.

No matter who wins this primary, I will support them. But we have to ask ourselves who's the best person to lead. I believe I'm the man. I'm beholden to nobody. No lobbyist or corporate executive holds sway with me. When I go to Washington everything changes. I'll smash the corruption by bringing down the law on the lobbyists and the executives by passing the most extensive anti corruption reforms in 45 years. Once we get the wheels of government moving I'll push an agenda to fight climate change, tax the rich, and uplift the poor and downtrodden. It's time to take back our democracy and get government working for ordinary Americans again. Thank you.

The Senators’ swing continues after polls have shown her narrowly leading in the state. Klobuchar also made significant visits to the state of Nevada campaigning with Senator Catherine Cortez Masto and meeting with several Latino Civil Rights Groups (it is rumored the Senator will be receiving one of their endorsements)  and opening several campaign offices in her home state of Minnesota.

Quote from Senator Klobuchar on the 1st Democratic Debate

Quote
“I’m happy to see my vision resound across the country. The American people are responding positively to the message our campaign is trying to permeate. This message is of bi-partisanship, leadership, and pragmatic progress and it’s clear that the United States doesn’t need louder voices of hate, we’ve already had enough of that. What we need is to restore the soul and morality of our country and her leaders, that is what I have promised to do, it’s time to unite the country and push a bold agenda that works for all not the few and I look forward to continue to spread these ideals on the campaign trail and at the next debates. Let’s do this America”

Amy's Infrastructure Plan

Credits: The Verge

Amy is proposing a bold, trillion-dollar plan to rebuild America’s infrastructure, invest in our future, and create millions of good-paying American jobs. Amy’s infrastructure plan will be her top budget priority, and she will work to get it done during the first year of her presidency. And she has a proven track record of delivering results. America needs a President who will get things done and pass progressive policies that keep our country moving. As President, Amy will focus on seven areas of infrastructure investment. Her plan will:

Repair and replace our roads, highways, and bridges.

The collapse of the 35W Bridge was a tragic reminder that America has failed to maintain the roads, bridges, and other public infrastructure that keep our people safe and our economy strong. Amy will make smart investments to repair and replace our roads and highways, reduce congestion, upgrade America’s over 50,000 structurally deficient bridges, fix the roads and bridges washed out by the recent floods in the Midwest, eliminate the “pothole tax,” and stabilize the Highway Trust Fund. A world-class transportation system will increase our safety and lower costs for commuters and businesses that depend on getting goods to market.

Provide protection against flooding and update and modernize our airports, seaports and inland waterways.
Amy will increase public investment in our airports and modernize our aviation system so air travel is safe and efficient. She also understands that the economies of many communities depend on America’s inland waterways and ports and that allowing these assets to fall into disrepair hurts our economy. That’s why Amy is committed to updating our ports, locks, and dams, as well as investing in our inland waterways to accommodate anticipated growth in waterborne traffic. And beyond waterborne cargo, Amy’s plan will invest in updating our levees and provide critical additional protection against the serious threat of flooding.

Expand reliable public transit options and update rail infrastructure.
Our country’s investments in public transit have not kept pace with the demand for reliable public transportation, particularly for low-income communities and communities of color. Amy will increase investments in public transit with a focus on decreasing barriers to opportunity and reducing our energy consumption, overhaul our rail infrastructure when it comes to freight and passenger rail, and bring high-speed rail to more communities. These investments will strengthen our communities and make it safer and easier to get to work and school.

Rebuild our schools and overhaul our country’s housing policy.
K-12 public schools represent the nation’s second-largest infrastructure sector and the condition of school buildings is critical for advancing student performance, classroom learning, and student health. A 2017 survey found that half of America’s public school buildings need improvements to be considered in “good” condition. And while school building conditions are a national problem, the disrepair of America’s public schools disproportionately affects students in low-income communities that cannot raise funds for maintenance, repair, or modernization. Amy will fix our crumbling and unsafe schools, update the physical and digital infrastructure needs of our schools, and establish an ongoing role for the federal government to invest in school infrastructure. All students deserve a good learning environment, regardless of where they live. Amy will release a comprehensive housing policy in the weeks to come.

Connect every household to the internet by 2022.
Roughly one in four rural Americans say access to high-speed internet is a major problem. That’s why as President, Amy will connect every household in America to the internet by 2022. Amy’s plan will help close the urban-rural divide by creating accurate broadband maps to identify areas that lack adequate access, focus on bringing high-speed internet infrastructure to areas most in need, and provide greater incentives for existing providers to use funds to upgrade their networks to cover unserved and underserved areas. Broadband creates jobs, opens new economic opportunities, and allows America to compete and succeed in an increasingly digital world.

Build Climate Smart and Green infrastructure.
Amy’s plan makes a down payment on transforming our economy from one reliant on fossil fuels to one that depends on clean energy. That means sweeping legislation that invests in green infrastructure, modernizes our aging energy infrastructure so that it is secure and efficient, strengthens bioenergy capabilities, puts incentives in place to overhaul our building codes, and invests in energy efficiency retrofits and rural renewable energy development. Amy will also help states and cities plan for the impacts of climate change by building stronger, more resilient transportation networks and public infrastructure to withstand rising sea levels, a changing climate, and extreme weather. This means good-paying jobs for people across the country, investments that ensure cleaner and greener communities and workplaces, and a commitment to doing something real about climate change.

Ensure Clean Water
For far too long, America has been underinvesting in the drinking and wastewater systems that keep our communities healthy and safe. Amy will make a historic commitment to addressing our drinking and wastewater infrastructure so that all Americans — including those in low-income communities, communities of color, and rural communities — have reliable access to safe and clean water. Amy will also make a serious investment in sewer and sanitation systems. She is committed to protecting public health for all communities, especially the most vulnerable populations, and to ensuring that communities have the resources they need to immediately respond to any water-related crisis.

Stacey's Plan to Break Up Big Tech

Introduction
25 years ago, Facebook, Google, and Amazon didn’t exist. Now they are the most valuable and well-known companies in the world. The federal government sued Microsoft for violating anti-monopoly laws and eventually reached a settlement. The government’s antitrust case against Microsoft helped clear a path for Internet companies like Google and Facebook to emerge.

They’ve bulldozed competition, used our private information for profit, and tilted the playing field against everyone else. Essentially, building a monopoly in the tech world. In the process, they have hurt small businesses and stifled innovation. To undo that, we need to stop this generation of big tech companies from throwing around their political power to shape the rules in their favor and throwing around their economic power to snuff out or buy out every potential competitor.

America’s big tech companies have achieved their level of dominance in part based on two strategies
Venture capitalists are now hesitant to fund new startups to compete with these big tech companies because it’s so easy for the big companies to either snap up growing competitors or drive them out of business. The number of tech startups has slumped, there are fewer high-growth young firms typical of the tech industry, and first financing rounds for tech startups have declined 22% since 2012. With fewer competitors entering the market, the big tech companies do not have to compete as aggressively in key areas like protecting our privacy. We must ensure that today’s tech giants do not crowd out potential competitors, smother the next generation of great tech companies, and wield so much power that they can undermine our democracy.

Restoring competition in the tech sector
In response to the rise of these “trusts,” Republican and Democratic reformers pushed for antitrust laws to break up these conglomerations of power to ensure competition. We required a structural separation between the network and other businesses, and also demanded that the network offer fair and non-discriminatory service. First, by passing legislation that requires large tech platforms to be designated as “Platform Utilities” and broken apart from any participant on that platform. Companies with annual global revenue of $25 billion or more and that offer to the public an online marketplace, an exchange, or a platform for connecting third parties would be designated as “platform utilities.

These companies would be prohibited from owning both the platform utility and any participants on that platform. Platform utilities would be required to meet a standard of fair, reasonable, and nondiscriminatory dealing with users. Platform utilities would not be allowed to transfer or share data with third parties. For smaller companies, their platform utilities would be required to meet the same standard of fair, reasonable, and nondiscriminatory dealing with users, but would not be required to structurally separate from any participant on the platform.

To enforce these new requirements, federal regulators, State Attorneys General, or injured private parties would have the right to sue a platform utility to enjoin any conduct that violates these requirements, to disgorge any ill-gotten gains, and to be paid for losses and damages. Amazon Marketplace, Google’s ad exchange, and Google Search would be platform utilities under this law. Therefore, Amazon Marketplace and Basics, and Google’s ad exchange and businesses on the exchange would be split apart. Google Search would have to be spun off as well.

Second, my administration would appoint regulators committed to reversing illegal and anti-competitive tech mergers. Current antitrust laws empower federal regulators to break up mergers that reduce competition.

So what will the Internet look like after all these reforms?
You’ll still be able to go on Amazon and find 30 different coffee machines that you can get delivered to your house in two days. You’ll still be able to go on Facebook and see how your old friend from school is doing. Facebook would face real pressure from Instagram and WhatsApp to improve the user experience and protect our privacy. Tech entrepreneurs would have a fighting chance to compete against the tech giants.

Of course, my proposals today won’t solve every problem we have with our big tech companies. There are countless problems regarding the power of big tech, but the benefit of taking these steps to promote competition is that it allows us to make some progress on each of these important issues too. More competition means more options for consumers and content creators, and more pressure on companies like Facebook to address the glaring problems with their businesses. Healthy competition can solve a lot of problems.

The steps I’m proposing today will allow existing big tech companies to keep offering customer-friendly services while promoting competition, stimulating innovation in the tech sector, and ensuring that America continues to lead the world in producing cutting-edge tech companies. It’s how we protect the future of the Internet.

Election Update 2020
with your hosts, Tucker Carlson and Mark Levin

Carlson: Good evening. I'm Tucker Carlson.

Levin: And I'm Mark Levin. And this is your election update.

Carlson: This week marked by the second debate for both parties. The Democratic one took place in Detroit, MI, while the Republicans faced off in Duluth, MN; each state is viewed as a prime pickup opportunity in 2020.

Levin: Many other news stories, as well, which you can check up on at foxnews.com.

Carlson: That said, tonight we have a special guest, Senator Amy Klobuchar. Senator, how are you tonight?

Klobuchar: It's great to be here, Tucker.

Carlson: Glad to hear it, Senator. Now, several polls have given you an early lead in Iowa. Do you believe a win there would boost you from your current fifth place showing nationally?

Klobuchar: Look it’s great to have such momentum in the Hawkeye State, our campaign of, by, and for the people, has been in full throttle here in Iowa as you’ve seen and we’re immensely proud to be getting the amount of support and endorsements we’ve received so far. As one of the few candidates that embarked on a 99-county tour across the state accompanied by Congressman Loebsack, Senator Harkin, and Vice President Biden, I’ve seen our message of uniting the country and ensuring that we nominate someone that cannot only win but work, resound with many Iowans across the state as I’m sure you can see in the polls. I’m confident we can permeate this promise of hope and pragmatic progress across the country and a win here in the Heartland would not only show but awaken the rest of the country to the strength and ideals of our campaign. While the level of support is not seen throughout the country, the race is just beginning and once we are able to effectively expand our message throughout all fifty states, I’m confident that our campaign will grow stronger than ever.

Carlson: Not a campaign for the liberal elites, that's for sure. Now, you’ve stated in your green energy plan that you intend to bring high-speed Internet to the entire country. Would this include reinstating net neutrality laws on a national level?

Klobuchar: Of course it would, I’ve been a firm supporter of protecting and promoting net neutrality laws and one way we can do this is by using federal contracting requirements to encourage broadband providers to honor net neutrality principle and promote a free and open internet. It’s also why I am a firm supporter and co-sponsor of the Save the Internet Act, ending net neutrality hurts consumers, small businesses and rural communities. That’s why I’ve joined Senator Markey and other Senate Democrats to introduce this important piece of legislation and it will definitely be part of our fight to connect every household to the internet by 2022 and to enact an executive order that would launch government-wide cybersecurity initiatives, including election security.

Carlson: Cybersecurity becoming ever more important in a world full of disruptive foreign powers. So, then, if you do become President, what would your first 100 days be like?

Klobuchar: The problems Americans are facing every single day require urgent action. That’s why I have a comprehensive plan to get to work and deliver results on Day One through executive action. I will begin to immediately deliver an ambitious, optimistic agenda that will build a safer world, a stronger democracy, and a fairer economy while taking much-needed action on health care, climate change, and immigration. After four years of a Republican White House, a new President can’t wait for Congress. During the first 100 days of my presidency I will get the United States back in the International Climate Agreement, working so that the United States maintains global leadership to address the climate crisis, I will immediately suspend all efforts — both in federal court and at the Department of Health and Human Services — that would allow insurance companies to deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions, I will immediately allow for the safe importation of prescription drugs from countries like Canada. Americans pay double what Canadians do for some prescription drugs, which is why I will use existing FDA  authority to grant a waiver that allows people to import safe prescription drugs for personal use from countries like Canada to decrease drug costs for seniors and all Americans. I will restore the federal government’s longstanding position of challenging intentionally racially discriminatory voting laws. I will jump-start negotiations for comprehensive immigration reform — which includes a pathway to citizenship, protecting and expanding the DREAM Act and border security. With these concrete steps, we will put our country back on a path of progress where people have an opportunity to get ahead.

Carlson: A stance Ms. Abrams would no doubt approve of. Now, before you go, Senator, if you could tell the American people one thing tonight, what would it be.

Klobuchar: If I could tell the American people one thing, it would be who I am and what my campaign is all about. I’m someone that has fought her entire life to work diligently and bi-partisanly to move our country forward and united, that’s something I can do if elected President of the United States. I’ve shown up for my home, the Heartland of America, that’s why I’ve won both rural and urban counties, that’s why I’ve won both red and blue areas, and that’s why I’m running for President, to bring this country forward and finally make the progress I have been making since day one of my time in the Senate. I didn’t come from a family of billionaires, my grandfather was a iron ore miner and just like the rest of America I had to work hard to get to where I am now. That is the story of the United States, this bold experiment, that if you want to come here and have a good life you have to work for it but nowadays it’s getting harder and harder to do that. With your support, we can make sure that everyone has equal opportunities and bright futures.

Carlson: Senator, always a pleasure to have you with us.

Klobuchar: Thank you for having me.

Carlson: And that will be all for tonight. Tune in on Sunday for our interview with Senator Rand Paul.

Carlson: Until then, I'm Tucker Carlson.

Levin: And I'm Mark Levin.

Both: And this has been your Election Update.

Cory Booker signs 'Living Wage' pledge, urges other candidates to follow

Earlier this week (April 2020), Cory Booker's campaign announced to the media and in a major press conference that the Senator would sign a $15 'living wage' pledge, vowing to spend extensive political clout if elected President towards ensuring all Americans, regardless of race, origin or income, whom work 40 hours a week "does not live in poverty." He cited that this pledge was important "because half of African American wage-earners do not earn a living wage of fifteen dollars an hour" and said it was "a critical reason as to why the racial wealth gap persists in this country." Moreover, he cited that America "has not budged it's minimum wage for a full decade, leaving inflation open to reduce the effect of it."

He later stated he would introduce a bill to the floor of the senate which raises the minimum wage to $15 per hour and chains it to inflation. Booker noted that "almost every other developed nation has a way of routinely updating it's minimum wage," regardless of "whether politician's have the guts to raise it." He hoped this proposal would garner Republican support and the support of the President because it "is critical to the assurance of the values cited in our constitution: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." The essence of that message? "You cannot be free and live in poverty simultaneously." Booker's aides do not believe it will go far in the Senate, but they hope it will put Senators and Presidential Candidates on the record, with polls suggesting a majority of Americans support the proposal.

ABRAMS ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR A LIVING WAGE

Today presidential candidate Stacey Abrams joined Senator Cory Booker and others in supporting a living wage of $15/hour. Ms. Abrams issued the following statement of support:

Quote
I know firsthand what it's like working on the minimum wage, and it's no easy task. Just over $7/hour is pitiful. If we want to reduce poverty levels, reduce income inequality, increase worker productivity, decrease employee turnover, boost the economy, and decrease gender and race inequality we must raise the minimum wage to $15/hour. I hope to see all of my fellow candidates running for President to show their support for a living wage!

LEGISLATION ROUNDUP

TERM LIMITS (PENCE)

Senate:
Aye: 41
Nay: 59
Bill fails.

TERM LIMITS (PAUL)
Senate:
Aye: 44
Nay: 56
Bill fails.

HEALTHCARE REFORM (PENCE)
Senate:
Aye: 54
Nay: 46
Bill continues to House.

House:
Aye: 203
Nay: 230
Bill fails.

Reason cited for Democratic opposition to healthcare reform is that the bill didn't do enough.

As usual, if anyone wants their vote changed, let me know.

BREAKING NEWS
CA, NM Attorneys General Sue Over Pence Border Wall Executive Order

The Attorneys General of California and New Mexico, Xavier Becerra and Hector Balderas, have sued the Pence administration over a recently signed executive order moving forward with plans to build a wall along the Southern border. Becerra and Balderas, both Latinos and Democrats, cited their beliefs that the wall was unethical and unlawful when they launched their suits. Numerous Republicans immediately questioned how the wall was any more unlawful than illegal immigration.

Jay Inslee Voiceover: The effects of Climate Change aren't happening down the road, in twenty, thirty years. They're happening right now in OUR homes and communities. We need someone to act. Someone who can act.

Jay Inslee Voiceover: Tom Steyer is the man to fight climate change. He's spent his career as a climate activist trying to preserve our environment and public lands, and fight the fossil fuel companies. He's the man who can act, because he hasn't taken a dime from the special interests or the big Oil CEOs. He'll go to Washington, and he'll pass sweeping environmental reform for clean electricity and green jobs.

(Steyer Appears)I'm Tom Steyer, and I approve this message because it's time we put the denial and corruption behind us and fight climate change.

Mike Pence's debate answers

Opening: My fellow Americans, I am here to offer you a better future. I know that you are fired up, you're angry, and I'm angry too. In 2017 when I had the great honor of becoming Vice President of the United States, the country had already suffered extreme damage under socialist Democrats and incompetent Republicans, ever since 1988. Our country was down on every metric, and the people were suffering terribly. In the last 2 and a half years, we turned things around. Our economy is booming, the swamp is being drained, the rest of the world isn't ripping us off anymore. However, so much more needs to be done in order to end the suffering in our country. And I am coming in front of you today to promise you something: I will drain the swamp and allow significant reforms that will make everyone's life better to happen by 2024. The domination of lobbyists and special interests and billionaires like the Democratic Koch needs to end, and I will end it. Only then, we will have Washington listen to you, the people. Only then, great bills like tax reform and school choice, which are broadly supported and loved in the country, will be implemented and we can fix the broken systems of healthcare, education, taxation and so much more. This is what I am promising, and this is the only way to truly Make America Great Again for you, the people of this nation.

Answer to the question:
Look, I think what happened is very clear. While I thank Kirsten Gillibrand for her support for the bill, so many of her fellow socialists lost any kind of touch with the rest of the country and have no clue on what a disaster the public education system is. We are actively taking away the chance to a better future to millions of children, especially Hispanics and African Americans, and the Democrats don't realize this and opposed charter schools just because they used to oppose it 20 years ago, and because it's proposed by me, a Republican president. This shows how partisan DC got, and I intend to restore bi-partisanship to Congress if I am re-elected by pushing forward a common sense agenda that everyone can get behind. And school choice will certainly be part of it, because we just can't do without it. We need to get our education system back on track if we want to have a better future for our children.

Closing statement:
Tonight you have heard different visions for the future of the country clashing, and now it comes up to you to decide what you want. Do you want to continue the progress made under the great President Donald Trump and add to it so you can say that you are proud to be an American again? Or do you wish to go back to the past, a past in which your suffering was being ignored by Washington and your representatives only listened to the swamp? A past in which no one cared or maybe some cared but no one was able to do anything? I don't think anyone wants to go back to that. So I will end my statement by asking this: Are you better off than you were 3 years ago? Are your taxes lower, is your wage higher, are the trade deals better, is illegal immigration declining? If the answer to this questions is yes, I propose you to be part of the movement that will Make America Great Again.

Mike Pence @presidentpence

NO SURPRISE! The DO NOTHING PARTY didn't want to do anything to lower YOUR drug prices and increase price TRANSPARENCY - things they have been screaming about for years!!! AMERICANS who can't afford buying prescription drugs and who are being scammed by companies and hospitals - REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER!

Mike Pence @presidentpence

NO DOUBT - the crooked swamp is behind this as well. I am sure the drug companies used their "biggest" and "fiercest" fighters to defeat this bill that would have limited their profits by A LOT, and helped Americans... I am sure the Chief Swampist is behind this as well - his days of freedom are limited! Once I will uncover how corrupt he is - he's going to jail where he belongs!

Mike Pence @presidentpence

How ironic that the so-called defenders of the American people against the greed of the insurance and drug companies fiercely fought against them by voting against a bill meant to limit their greed proposed by the Republicans, their biggest supporters - according to the Do Nothing Party! The Democrat Party is the party of Big Pharma, their rhetoric has been a scam! SHAME!
