The Spanish government is about to declare the state of alarm for coronavirus. Main goal: preventing the collapse of the national health system

State of alarm would allow limitations to mobility and the suspension of upcoming regional elections in Galicia and Basque Country

Italy, there we go!

A few days ago Kazakhstan was the biggest country officially virus-free - is that still the case?

Nope: Kazakhstan Reports First Coronavirus Cases as Testing Ramps Up

Also, quite surprised about the very low cases in India.

Maybe. But it's curious.

It seems that Bolsonaro isn't infected, after a second test:

Shockingly high 10% fatality rate for marginal cases continues for Italy.

Quote
2,547 new cases and 250 new deaths in Italy.

Of course that has biases due to time lags and likely under-reporting/under-testing of non-severe cases, but way too high for comfort.

3,640 confirmed infections in Germany, 1,433 of them in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Eight people have died.

In Berlin, kindergartens, schools, universities, theatres, operas, museums, swimming pools, pubs, and clubs have either been completely shut down or will be until Tuesday.

In the supermarket I was just in, sh**t's getting real. Soap and noodles are out as are at least 60% of all canned food. Toilet paper's still available but the staff is barely keeping up with restocking the shelves.

In soccer news, it is at this point seen as all but given that the 2020 European Football Championship will be postponed until 2021 by the UEFA.

To the people here who doubt China's reports of reducing its new infections to just a few dozen a day -- how would you explain the nearly-equal success of countries like Singapore, Korea (despite Christian apocalyptic cult), and Japan to reduce their new infection rates as well, and with less draconian measures than China at that? With the exception of Korea, none of these countries have faced the exponential growth and spiking death rates seen in the southern European outbreak.

Great cartoon in today's SN (= main Salzburg) newspaper:

Left: Good, very good, best.

Right: Bad, very bad, extremely bad.

(In Tyrol, people are still greeting each other with "Heil !" these days, nothing weird. But they already greeted each other with "Heil !" some 150 years ago already, so ...)

Imagine if that person came up to you, and in a slow, deep and soft voice said

"Excuse me but i wanted that last block of chocolate."

I would hand it over.

Slow down in the number of cases reported here today. Probably because it’s the weekend...

One thing I read, that did actually surprise me, is that apparently only two of the Italian deaths so far were people under the age of 40. And both had very serious chronic issues before hand

Would be a good decision.

133 new infections in our country
a total of 10,500 samples have already been tested in Belgium, of which 689 proved positive
Although the 689 confirmed cases are certainly an underestimate, because only patients at risk are tested for the virus
4th patient (eighties) died
97 patients are in the hospital: 24 of them are on intensive care, 22 receive respiratory support

Portugal: Positive case rose to 169 as PM António Costa announces that during the weekend police will start controlling some points of the border with Spain. Costa is in talks with the Spanish PM as we speak.

By region, the North continues to have the biggest number of cases, 77, but the Lisbon region is rising faster, 73, and could surpass the North in the new few days.

Also this site is quite good on the worldwide numbers of the virus: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

From Italy:

Quote
Doctors keep a list of people who want to say goodbye to their relatives via video.

"I hope we get mini iPads, at least three or four, so that people don't have to die alone."

Also:

Spain introduces a complete lockdown on the country soon.

Unfortunately, Spain is on its way to become the second Italy:
6,023 confirmed infections, 191 deaths.
An increase by almost 2,000 infections within a day.

Italy: 17,660 confirmed infections, 1,266 deaths.

Germany: 4,110 confirmed infections (1,636 in NRW), still only eight deaths.

The number of new cases in Austria is slowing a bit.

+98 cases yesterday vs. about 150 the days before.

600 in total now.
