Well, seems like Corona beer is getting a lot of free promotion.

It would be a shame if an unfortunate similarity in names would do in the brand just as happened with AYDS.

There now have been 117 confirmed infections in Germany, making it the country with the sixth-most official cases worldwide, after China, South Korea, Italy, Iran, and Japan. Most infections have appeared in Northrhine-Westphalia, with 66 cases so far.

In an on oddly historically shaped parttern there have been confirmed infections in all founding states of the old West Germany. Completely unaffected so far are Saarland (which didn't join West Germany until 1957), West Berlin (which officially didn't join the Federal Republic until 1990), and the entirety of former East Germany.

There's still no positive cases in Portugal. However, in last few hours, a writer that was in a annual gathering of writers in my hometown, Póvoa de Varzim, was admitted to hospital, in Spain, with the virus. He left Portugal last Monday, although with a severe cold, and started having symptoms two days later. He tested positive for COVID-19, but a final test result is still to be revealed.

The holy sites in Qom aren’t closed at all even though the situation is really bad there. The Akhunda are deadset on endangering the rest of Iran.

Only a matter of time until every state is affected. Professor Drosten, a leading specialist who helped inventing the test, thinks that 60-70% of the German population will be infected over the next one or two years. The only question, according to him, is whether specific medicine can be developed in the meantime.

I still hope the pandemic fades away as we move into spring and then summer, as happened with SARS in 2003 and the annual flu season.

Germany has now reached 150 confirmed infections, 86 of them in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The high number of infections in NRW is largely attributed to the Rhenish Carnival season.

Yesterday, we also had our first case in Berlin: A 22-year-old man who contracted the disease after being visited by his parents from NRW.

Still unaffected are Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia, and Saarland.

Fortunately, nobody has died yet of the Coronavirus.

Italy update: 1,696 infections, 34 deaths.

Plus, Robert Koch Institute, a German government agency, has changed its threatlevel rating for the general public from "low to median" to "median".

^^ The RKI is essentially the German counterpart to the CDC.

We're now at 162 infections, 90 of them in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Starting with the first Berlin case yesterday evening, it is now spreading in the eastern parts of country: three confirmed infections in Berlin, one in Brandenburg, and one in Saxony.

Italy update: 2,036 infections, 52 deaths.

Iran's response to this had been so bad, I'm starting to wonder if this might be their Chernobyl moment. It's one thing to kill dissidents through force. It's another to kill loyalists through weakness.

Though we had to wait another five years after that for the actual collapse of the USSR.

I think the regime will hold out at least a decade more. We’re going to need the boomers to thin out before any real change gets done. Anyway, the situation on the ground only gets worse— 77 officially dead, 23 parliamentarians infected, and 300,000 members of the military and paramilitary forces being mobilized

A first case of Coronavirus has been confirmed here in Salzburg, in my district.

In the town of Fusch.

2 miles away from where I live.

So, the young woman from Vienna visited Italy before and then visited her boyfriend who is living next to me. Both now have the virus, but are quarantined for 3 weeks in his home.

No other cases reported here.

In total, there are now some 20 cases here, most in Vienna and most coming from people who are either Italians or who visited Northern Italy recently.

It's hard to believe mortality is so different between developed countries. Italy and US have a high rate compared to others (Germany has more confirmed cases than US and 0 deaths?). Especially Italy compared to other European countries is highly suspicious. Indicates there's a much higher number of infected people "flying under the radar". Likely due to a lack of testing. Wouldn't be surprised if the real number of infected Italians is 5 times higher than reported/confirmed. Or even 10 times more.

South Korea is the only country doing truly thorough testing. Mortality rates and infection rates should be based off of mortality and infection in South Korea. Everywhere else (including China) is understating infections.

Yes, Germany has 202 confirmed infections and no deaths so far. I can only a attribute it thorough testings and quarantines as soons as the current outbreak started. I mean, depending on the outcome of one of these tests it's possible that at least a quarter of the state parliamemt of Thuringia could be quarantined (and subsequently tested) this evening. See the German state election thread in International Politics for that.

Given the reports that the virus was spreading for weeks undetected, there are probably hundreds of undiagnosed people in the US, some of whom may have already recovered, so our death rate is probably artificially high, at least for now.

Germany: 204 confirmed infections (103 in North Rhine-Westphalia, the other 101 in all remaining states except Saxony-Anhalt).

The Bundesliga is continuing its ongoing season, but clubs have started to instruct players not give autographs or pose with fans for selfies anymore.

In Berlin, an arsonist claimed after his arrest that he's infected with the coronavirus. This lead to a temporary shutdown of the respective police precinct.

Italy: 2,502 confirmed infections, 79 deaths.

Germany: 262 confirmed infections. 115 of them in North Rhine-Westphalia, followed by Baden-Württemberg with 50 and Bavaria with 48. Saxony-Anhalt remains the only unaffected German state.

Italy: 3,089 confirmed infections, 107 deaths.
