Uh, many of them do. Again, she isn't wrong here and the reactions are completely off-kilter to what she said.

Tell that to Bloomberg, who created a company from scratch

Yes, maybe now, Bloomberg sits on a couch, but he STARTED the business. He made sure that he had to get a business/corporate license/etc. Plus the payroll taxes, etc.

What did AOC ever create that someone needed?

AOC is not presidential material, the business community would ensure that she has a horrible presidency if elected

Saying they just sit on a couch shows how she has no idea in anyway how a business is run . She is a total moron in every way possible

She's right for the most part. Most of today's CEOs and corporate executives were born into wealth and privilege, benefiting off of somebody else's hard work (be it employees or past generations) and get their positions because they or their parents are well connected enough not to have to actually work for it.

Lol , I have a question for all of you if all businessmen do is sit on a couch than how do they get the materials they need to create products. Yah that is right, the business has to choose how many materials they are gonna buy to make those products and also have to make sure they are buying enough materials needed to create the goods necessary to meet demand and at the same time make sure not to buy too many or else their holding costs will be too high.

Oh and now if the response to that is well many businesses dont even make their products anymore they just buy it from a supplier, well then the business has to decide what products do they want to buy, how many of that particular product they want to buy and if they have multiple locations , they may have to order a different amount per location. Again buying too little of one product would result in them not being able to meet consumer demand, and buying too much will results in holding costs that are too high.

Doing all of that is not sitting on a couch lol

That doesn't mean they didn't make their own (additional) wealth, and it ABSOLUTELY does not mean that they "just sit on a couch."

That party has no ground to stand on in regard to demagoguery, quite frankly, even if it has a less culturally offensive facade.

In some cases (hi, Donald!) this is true, but I feel the vast majority of businessmen had to work hard for much of their life to accumulate their wealth (tax loopholes notwithstanding).

People who she claims are sitting in couches are the ones doing this .

I mean, you're clearly strawmanning what she said. She was talking about billionaires in particular, not every random person who has a business.

Being a billionaire is the result of luck. For every billionaire on Earth, there are so many people who worked just as hard and had success but weren't lucky enough to be billionaires, and there are even more who worked just as hard and never really became successful. And unlike small business owners, billionaires made their billions off other people's work.

A billionaire could let their money sit in a bank completely untouched for a whole year, and earn multiple million dollars (i.e. more than most will earn in a lifetime) just from the interest.  By sitting on a couch, as it were.

Now that’s to say nothing of how they earned that billion in the first place.  Yes, many of them started from scratch.

Even Billionaires running a company have to do what I said. Running a large corporation is a lot of work as well lol.  Walmart without having and maintaining  excellent supply chain management would be no where near the company it is today.

A rather misleading thread title in many respects. For starters, she explicitly talks about billionaires, not businessman. Her critique is of capitalism that creates such exorbitant gains for a tiny few individuals amassing a hugely disproportionate share of wealth. To title the thread as if she were supposedly commenting on business people, write down to small business owners like yours truly, is completely at odds with what she actually said.

You might also want to baby quote some of the things she said about explicitly stating she doesn't believe billionaires are inherently immoral?

Come on man, I expected better than this from you

That's not the example she used, she used the old socialist example of a businessman had nothing to do with the creation of products a business sells.

She is a commie , as everything she has said implies she would support nationalizing the means of production

Btw, you sound ridiculous, not conservative, using the term commie.

Watch the video , the example she gave was an attack on businessman in general . No it doesn’t , every indication she has given shows that she would support nationalizing the means of production

Some of my friends' parents growing up were C-suite executives (smallest violin, I know).

They didn't "sit on a couch" all day. They often didn't come home until very late at night and when they were home, they were usually in the study working on the computer or on the phone.

They also received stock options as part of their compensation, which in most cases worked out quite well for them. One guy retired from an operations VP position and was able to buy both a big mansion on a golf course and a nice high rise condo downtown with a view. (He died a couple of years later from cancer - you can't take it with you!)

Perhaps AOC should job-shadow the CEO of a Fortune 500 company for a few days. It could be like a funhouse upside-down version of Undercover Boss.

That's just wrong.

Most of them were from middle-class backgrounds and did not have any prior relationship with the company before going to work there. Tim Cook is not the CEO of Apple because he is a descendant of the illustrious Apple family dynasty and his dad turned the company over to him when he retired.
