Sanctioning China would kill the economy even more than it's already tanking. Plus it's not the Chinese people's fault that this happened. No one is defending the CCP but there's a billion people this would hurt.

By that logic we shouldn’t sanction any nation ever

Well, when there's no reason to sanction a nation, then you really shouldn't sanction that nation.

The Chinese literally hid this virus’s and arrested people who reported on it so the fact is they are to blame for it spreading around the world so they should be punished for it

I don't think any other nation is the most populous nation in the world that makes most of our stuff

To my great surprise, the University of Georgia has announced that they will open for on-campus classes as usual next Monday (this week is Spring Break).

Did they do it in a pleasant lilting Southern accent?

There are rumors I'm hearing from friends across the border than someone in Boise, Idaho has tested positve for coronavirus - this would be the first known case in the state. This has not been officially released or confirmed yet.

Maybe he should be self-isolating?

I suspect Trump has already been exposed to and tested for COVID-19, but of course this is top-level national security classified information that will not be leaked to the press.  Having it reported that POTUS is potentially incapacitated due to COVID-19 is an extreme national security risk.

I would argue just the opposite.  Mike Pence has been handling the whole situation far better anyway.  We'd all be better off with him in this crisis.

The stock market would probably soar over news that Pence is taking over full time.

You're hilarious, OSR, but regardless of their shortcomings, it's simply not China's fault that our government is slacking. The finding of the then-'mystery virus' was broadcast all over Chinese/HK news media everyday since late December. The Chinese provided the DNA of the virus to WHO on December 31st. What else would you have wanted them to do? The cascading of death takes about 6 weeks, which approximately equates to the time that the Chinese realized the seriousness of the virus on January 23rd. The US then had an extra 6 weeks to prepare, but Trump didn't care 'til a couple weeks ago when he came on the news to say "blah blah flu, here's Mike Pence."

Once again I hate to defend computer, but China is clearly in the wrong on what they did, independent of Trump’s incompetence. Not that I think sanctions would be any more productive since it would only further hurt our own economy as well.

That didn't last long.  Classes suspended for an additional two weeks.

All the hysteria post-9/11 led to both the Afghanistan War, Iraq War, PATRIOT ACT, etc that everyone went on to bitch about just a couple years later.....

Don’t confuse reaction with pragmatism, because they aren’t synonymous.

I don't really understand why you keep on insisting on this?

Is it because you're scared? In which case, it is OK to be scared. But sometimes the best way to deal with it is to accept that you're scared and face it head on.

Is it because you're in denial? In which case, why do you not engage with the many graphic descriptions of the situation in Italy that have posted here? What makes you think that in taking no action, America will somehow avoid reaching that state?

Is it because you think this is some conspiracy to take down Trump? In which case, you should ask yourself when it is exactly that you allowed your political biases to shade your entire ability to perceive reality?

Who could have guessed three years ago that the world would be this dystopian in 2020, but that Trump was only a mild exacerbating factor?

I think the goal is to make it safe to return to school on-campus by April 6.

Keep dreaming.

Do you think the Coronavirus crisis could be Trump's Katrina/Maria or worse ?

Trump is not a crisis leader. He behaves like a spoil child or an immature teenager or high schooler.

Worse, if for no other reason than that the virus will affect the entire country, while the hurricanes were largely regional issues.  It was easy for people far from them to see news coverage and think "oh, that's terrible" but not be personally affected.
