It's very possible now that Felder is a Dem again. Since he desires both power and security, it's increasingly likely dems get a subermajority.

How could the Dem conference possibly trust Felder after he sabotaged all their efforts at progressive policy for almost a decade?

He's the worst sort of Fair Weather Friend. Why isn't he cast out?

They don't. At the start of the session he was a "Independent Democrat." The thing is, Dems no longer need to bow to the whims of his Orthodox Parochialism this session, and likely will not in the coming future. He was allowed in mid-session after testing his temporary allegiances on key progressive legislation, and he voted correctly. The man's transactional style is in the process of making amends, so that he can start doing his normal stuff, only with the future D majority. I suspect he will play a big role in 2020 redistricting no matter if the dems get their super-majority or not, he's the  exact type of politicians that will trade everything for a  favorably drawn district by those with the pen.
