Gorsuch changes:

Tester (D-MT), McCaskill (D-MO), Brown (D-OH), Nelson (D-FL), Peters (D-MI) vote for, nomination passes 60-40 over fillibuster without McConnell having to get rid of it.

Kavanaugh changes:

Manchin (D-WV) votes against, nomination passes 50-50 after McConnell is forced to kill the filibuster and Pence is forced to cast a tie breaking vote as vice president.

If Democrats had the benefit of hindsight knowledge working towards them, I believe that this would have been the strategically smartest play for them. Everything would be clear as to what Democrats were doing, as they would have had Unity, and the reason for the change would have been obvious and simple.

I think this would have resulted in Democrats taking a 54-46 majority with FL, TX, MO, IN, MS (special), TN, and ND flipping. Some impact, but not as much would be had on House, Governor, and Downballot races.
