What exactly is driving this person's political leanings/voting record? This person supported Al Sharpton in the 2004 Democratic primary, Fred Thompson in the 2008 GOP primary and Newt Gingrich in the 2012 GOP primary.

Sprouts is awesome! I miss Sprouts.

If this describes you, would you mind very briefly (maybe in a few sentences or tweets) explaining why someone would go from Kerry to McCain to 3rd party and now to Trump. What appeals about Trump in 2020 that didn't appeal in 2016?

Older Southern Democrat, maybe a veteran. Felt disillusioned with Democrats after their attacks on Bush and respected McCain's military service enough to vote for him over Obama, but felt Obama had a good enough first term that they voted for him in 2012. Was disillusioned by both candidates in '16, saw them as opportunistic cowards, so voted for Stein out of principle. Feels the economy is doing well enough under Trump and trusts him more handling the Iran/NK situations than someone like Biden or Warren or Sanders.

That's not a bad analysis. This person in question is a Southern Republican in his 40s, though. Not "older" and not a veteran. I guess some voting records can't be understood except for by the voter himself.

2004: George Bush is an idiot. I don't love Kerry, but he is still a Catholic from a military family that I respect way more in a time of war to handle things the right way.
2008: Sarah Palin is finally going to give us a Christian in the White House!
2012: Romney is objectively evil! And Obama did a very good recovery and seems more inclusive than he did in 2008 - definitely not a socialist like Fox News said he was.
2016: I love Trump, but I don't think he has a chance in October for GE because press lied about Hollywood Access, and Jill Stein is a great Green advocate maybe even better person than Trump if that is possible, so I want to voice my opposition in the form of Hillary is evil and doesn't deserve my vote.
2020: Trump has been the greatest Christian voice in the last century of US history. Bernie would be very dangerous for the country. Biden would be absolutely useless in office and has been a much less inspiring figure than I hoped for a year ago. If you thought Trump could barely function, he's Trump on steroids.

With the exception of voters strongly committed to one party or ideology, voters change their minds from time to time about what issues are important. McCain in 2008 won 86-13 among that 7% of voters who named "terrorism" as the most important issue. Maybe in 2004 an Asian Indian immigrant voted Kerry because of his opposition to the Iraq War, but after the 2006 Mumbai terrorist attacks, became more concerned about terrorism for a few years? And since he or she is LGBT or knows LGBT people, he or she was put off by GOP comments after Obama's May 2012 embrace of SSM. She or he didn't like Trump or Hillary, but felt confident Hillary would win, so voted Stein 2016? And perhaps approves of Trump's Iran posture and intends to vote for him in 2020?

Someday someone may speculate about a hypothetical McCain-Stein-Johnson-Biden voter. That would be me. (Johnson wasn't on the MI ballot in 2012).
