If true...

Soleimani was a bad actor and I will shed no tears for him.  But this may have a major destabilizing effect on the region.  Stay tuned.

Are we sure this actually happened? It seems like by now there would have been some tweets from Trump about how perfect the air strike was.

Which is funny since from what i can tell there is a decent chunk of his base that is isolationist and are likely to get rather ticked off if he goes and starts a new war the Middle East especially against Iran which is a far tougher enemy than either Iraq or Afghanistan.

This is a drastic escalation. The US is plainly assassinating top Iranian military leaders in a capital city. This could definitely count as a declaration of war.

Under what authorization does Trump have to essentially declare war on Iran?

Will the price of oil will go up?

Will the US economy and military be hurt?

Will Benedict Donald's Russian owners benefit?

There's the "dove" that you wanted, Trump supporters, subverting Constitutionally-mandated congressional checks and balances at his whim, yet again.

This guy is a ticking time bomb, and we, as Americans, will be paying for his sham presidency for decades to come.

Once the war starts, Russia will probably invade & annex either Ukraine, Belarus, or a Baltic state.  He's been waiting for an opening like this.  Something to distract the US/Europe.

Chuck Schumer apparently was not even notified in advance, and if anyone in Congress were he would be among them.. you would think..

Oh wow. That's a big yikes. Hopefully this doesn't start another Middle Eastern war, especially since Iran is a whole different beast than Iraq, and may have nukes to boot.

i don't want to get drafted aaaaaaa

If you knew anything about geopolitics, you'd know that the answer is a clear no. Iran has been crucial for Assad's survival.

The good thing is that this can lead to defections at the margins, and Trump's electoral coalition has very tight margins.

But his base is going to fall in line. The groundwork is already being laid, and you know Fox will disseminate whatever message the WH puts out.

The terrifying thing is that this administration lies about most things, so I don't know how much stock we can put in this. I don't know how much the Pentagon would be insulted from this bug past experience says not much.

Does anyone here think the draft will be reinstated for whatever conflict ends up happening with Iran?
