A followup. I just ran into my neighbor in the hallway. Had an intereting conversation with her. Apparently her brother is an assistant editor at a newsoutlet in Bolivia. I haven't checked it out yet, but the Cochabamba-based site is
www.lostiempos.com (in spanish, of course). I'll look at it later. But she was saying that Morelos immediately halved his salary, put many private properties in the name of the People of Bolivia, made his house the residence of several others ("I'm a simple man and don't need this big mansion, so I invide the deputy of X and Y and Z to live here with their families as well."), etc. Man, this guy seems to be a true believer. So I'd been looking at NYT, WaPo, WSJ, etc, but much of this type of news goes unreported in those outlets. Where can I get more open comment on morelos? Well, if you can read Aymara or Quechua, there are a bunch of them. But if you can only read Spanish and English, they're limited. But I'll do a little more reading and see what I can turn up. Anyway, just wanted to tell about his in-your-face brand of socialism. I think he's for real. Not that I think this is good for Bolivia, but he does seem to be a believer. A born-again Socialist. Viva la revolucion!
