Which one do you prefer? Season 8 of Game of Thrones or Star Wars: Rise of Disney?

Game Of Thrones was better overall, Star Wars was a total disaster with a few really good moments.

Let me put it this way, I did have actual fun watching Rise of Skywalker in spite of the plot holes. In contrast, Season 8 - starting with episode 3 - was an arguably painful experience, and a deeply disappointing one as well.

I prefer a good movie to a bad TV show.

It was basically all foreshadowed, not their fault people couldn't see Dany going insane was coming, it's not like they weren't hitting us over the head for the whole series.

Easily Rise of Skywalker, which gave us a decent ending to a decent trilogy. Season 8 of GoT gave us a disappointing ending to what had been a great television show.

neither are anywhere near as bad as the haters will have you believe.  I'd rather watch GoT over Star Wars.

I never watched 'Game of Thrones' (and definitely don't plan to with how bad it ended) but two plus hours of a disappointing, half-assed movie is still much more tolerable than hundreds of hours of a TV show which declines in quality and ends up proving that your time was wasted when the last season comes around. It's why I don't actually watch too many television shows, and prefer movies.

At least GoT season eight was - generally - very well acted.  And the first three episodes weren't that bad.

I actually saw the first two episodes of GoT before giving up. It was so damn slow and boring, like a bad art film.

Episode IX. Nothing compares with the hot load of bulls**t that was Season 8.

It was basically all foreshadowed, not their fault people couldn't see Dany going insane was coming, it's not like they weren't hitting us over the head for the whole series.

I've seen you employ this talking point before, so I apologize if I am simplifying your view ... but it is entirely disingenuous to even insinuate that a majority of the complaints about Season 8 were strictly disappointment with Dany's actions by Dany Fangirls and Fanboys who just didn't like what the writers had their favorite character do.  The writing for GoT had been going downhill ever since the show started to run out of book material to adapt, and that much was clear to anyone with half a brain, IMO ... I mean lines like "You want a good girl ... but you need a bad p*ssy." were so cringe and out of place for a show of this caliber, and the show started to lose more and more of its intelligence and came across more as a run-of-the-mill blockbuster the more it went on.  We could go on and on about this from Tyrion all of a sudden going from the show's smartest character to suggesting the dumbest plan ever in Beyond the Wall to the show doing a 180 on the White Walkers and making them into the tired and overused AI Gone Rogue plotline because they weren't creative or smart enough to come up with a satisfying conclusion to all they had built up on that front line (literal D&D quote ... "We wanted to remove as much fantasy as possible so we could appeal to a different audience, like moms and NFL players."  Can't make that sh*t up, haha).

I never even found the battle for the Iron Throne overly interesting - mostly because the show spent seven seasons beating me over the head that, ya know, it didn't matter because something bigger was going on - so focusing strictly on Dany's rushed and sloppily done character transformation is going to fall flat in defending the abortion that was Season 8.  Two often overlooked things are good examples of why people feel so betrayed by D&D:

1) Let's remember that D&D are on record as saying Seasons 7 and 8 were written together as a cohesive plan: In Season 7's Beyond the Wall, Berrick (sp?) looks at Jon and says something to the effect of, "If we kill the Night King, they all will die; he turned them all."  Jon turns to him dramatically, after another intense staring match with the NK that had zero payoff, and says, "You don't understand."  What did he not understand??  That is exactly what happened, haha; Berrick was 110% right.  D&D literally included that line to add more mystery that they had no intention of paying off, because they're hacks who never had a plan for that plot.  They literally prized a *cool moment* over a cohesive plot payoff, and this only became exponentially worse in Season 8.

2) George RR Martin has been relatively clear that the White Walkers symbolize climate change - while humans squabble over petty politics and selfishly ignore the larger, more existential threat, they are dooming themselves.  Only if they come together and put aside their differences can they save the world.  And then ... Arya's ninja skills save the planet?  What is the message there?  Good thing Arya became an assassin, now back to the petty politics?  Lol, jk, White Walkers meant nothing?  You could remove literally the entire White Walkers storyline from the series and the last three episodes would be entirely unchanged.

It's just bad storytelling, man, and that has nothing to do with Dany, though yes - they managed to screw that totally doable plot up, as well.

From the few episodes I watched, I just found it depressing. Why would anyone want to invest themselves in this miserable world?

GoT season 8 was worse but RoS was a profanation of a franchise that I care about a lot more than ASOIAF/GoT, so gun to my head I'd go with season 8.

Might be because my expectations were lower, but I found Rise of Skywalker slightly less bad. Even if it did piss on the rest of Star Wars a bit, it had a bit more internal consistency than Season 8, which had gems such as "the end of the Dothraki! Jk lol they're fine."
