Should people who live in NY, especially NYC/LI, stay in the area, or move due to climate change causing harm in a few years?

Even without climate change, people should leave as soon as they are able. The only culturally or economically significant thing there that would be difficult to replicate or move elsewhere is Broadway.

Chicago is the most likely alternative, but it, or any other city's theatre, could take over only once Broadway goes kaput which won't be within my lifetime.

Yes, they should move to Florida.  They'll be safe there.

I can imagine New York developing some new form of Skyscraper where the bottom 10-15 floors are totally waterproof with floating streets out front. One thing I like about humanity is its constant ability to make technologically amazing advances when the alternatives are a minimal amount of sacrifice.

You're way too concerned about climate change.  Yes, the Earth is warming (and we may have something to do with it), but a lot of ice has already melted, and coastlines have not changed so dramatically such that coastal cities are underwater.  Sure, it's possible that some natural disasters will become more common (but others will become less common), but it's the hysteria like this or people saying that Florida will be almost unpopulated in 50 years that stops people from joining your fight.  If the climate movement had less people like Greta Thunberg and more people that were actually trying to develop technology to make a market-based difference, maybe people would get more onboard.
