Simply put Fairfax, and likely Perellio, are gong to be boxed out by the all-star (at least in state Politics terms) democratic bench presently exploring from their positions in the state legislature. Carroll-Foy is a NOVA AA legislator who was swept into her once competitive seat during the 2017 wave. She was one of the metaphorical 'ten' who were heavily recruited, funded, and publicized by the  VA dems who expected to win far less than the wave gave them. McClellan is a long term Richmond area legislator, with a large media presence.

The VA Dems need to declare war on Fairfax and play super hard ball. Like "blacklisting" anyone who accepts a job with his campaign or promising to back primary challengers against state legislators who endorse him. Make it clear if anyone supports that vile, sick f[inks]ing piece of sh!t in any way, shape or form, they are now an "unperson" who'll have no political future.

The issue is that he has significant support in the Black community. The VA Democratic Party doesn't want and cannot afford to alienate the Black community.

Which is another reason why Carroll-Foy is seriously considering a run. If the AA community is presented with two POC's, one with rape allegations and the other without, it's very likely they move en masse to the one without. She also has NOVA appeal to go along with the AA community, a pairing that could be unbeatable in the primary if utilized effectively.

I think McAuliffe scared him off or cut him a deal. They both kinda share the same base and have a prior working relationship. He should be throwing in his hat soon, of that is Herring's intention. I wouldn't be surprised if he choose a safe re-election for AG rather than the the crowding Democratic Gubernatorial primary.

If the VA GOP REALLY wants to show that they're taking this race seriously, they'll go with Denver Riggleman.

There really just isnt any Republican politician of note right now that could win statewide. Maybe Tom Davis vs. a Moran but no one really has universal name recognition plus a positive opinion.

Especially when the democrats are looking at Jennifer McClellan, Jennifer Carroll Foy, and even Terry McAuliffe for crying out loud. I don't think anyone on the GOP side wants to throw their career away, even though they may be forced to do so via redistricting. Their only hope is that Fairfax succeeds in his bid, but that would be a surprise considering the strength of his competition.

This race is Safe D regardless of who the Republicans nominate and which party controls the White House, but I’m of course looking forward to Democrats downplaying expectations and hyping this up as a bellwether for the 2022 midterms.

Anyway, there’s already a VA-2021 thread for the governor's race: https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=351883.0

Given Dems have lost gubernatorial races in states like MD and MA, and off-year elections are weird, I don't think that is true. Maybe Likely D, but with a pro-Republican national environment, Republicans could get lucky in VA. I agree though that VA isn't a bellwether, though if the Democrats win by a surprisingly narrow margin or a surprisingly large margin that could be indicative for the 2022 midterms.

If you want to talk about someone who could win in an increasingly blue state, look to Emmett Hanger of SD24. His moderate/cooperative credentials are infallible, and he's popular enough to push away a freitas-backed primary in the Shenandoah region. He's however got two problems. First, Hanger is old and 2021 wil likelyl be his last chance, but all the Dem Titans are lining up right now. Second, while the VA electorate as a whole resembles Maryland, the GOP primary is controlled unanimously by the Kentucky-esque rurals. There's little chance his bid would succeed even though his Shenandoah base may help limit the damages.

Ignoring Fairfax for a moment, Biden called TMac the once and future governor of VA at his rally yesterday, in case those plans were not clear enough for everyone to see.

In more serious news:

The stronger the candidate, TMac and Filler-Corn, the longer they wait.

Am the I the only one who finds it baffling that in a State which is probably the best advert for the Democrats nationally (minus the trifecta of allegations) that they're going to run an ex-Governor & Clinton Bundler.

The Democrats have really suffered from a lack of quality Governors who could run for President in say 2024 or 2028.

Uhhh Whitmer, Polis, and Newsom are all A-Tier presidential candidates for 2024.

If the primary was between the three candidates we have now what would people's predictions be? My guess would be:
Foy:41
Herring:32
Fairfax:27

I think Herring would win by a narrow margin and Fairfax do much worse. If T-Mac jumps in, he wins handily.

Yeah if Foy was out then Fairfax probably does better since there is now 'some' base that would turn to him. With Foy in her NOVA+AA network ensures anyone would might consider Fairfax has better options.

Tom Perriello should be the next Governor of Virginia.

Yeah, it would be nice to step outside former governors or any of the current executives right now. Fairfax is an absolute non-starter, and while Herring's doesn't seem as bad, it'd still be nice for VA to have a new governor who didn't do black face. FFS.

Which is why Carroll-Foy is running. Perriello, by this point, is really old news.

Does he really think he could defeat Chase in a primary? He's got way too much baggage that can be attacked from the right...and the left if he gets that far.

Amanda "Karen" Chase. A interaction like this from her is not just unsurprising, it's why she is probably going to end up as the nominee.

This tale is currently being magnified thanks to VA Democratic groups.

Herring out, probably understands his lane is going to be occupied by TMac.

Also, can we get the thread title changed?
