Post any updates here:

https://www.euronews.com/2022/09/17/notre-dame-restoration-work-goes-on-display

Rebuilding of Notre Dame's spire and roof has started. The spire is scheduled to be finished in mid-2023 and the cathedral is due to reopen on December 8th 2024 as of now.

Are we still on schedule for the grand reopening in time for the 2024 Summer Olympics on Paris?

That would certainly be a symbolic moment, here's hoping.

Afaik no, I believe the new planned reopening is December 8th 2024

The cathedral is well on its way to having a new roof:

So what’s the final verdict, will it be like the original or did Macron get his way?

They dropped the idea of a modern spire back in 2020 to replace the 19th century original, if that's what you're referring to.

They’ve been making good progress on it. Wasn’t able to go inside it obviously, but it seems a lot of the damage has been cleaned up. If iI can figure out how to post photos on this ancient website I’ll show some here.

In other news, it looks like the spire should be completed by the end of the year, just like most of the other remaining structural work.

However, the roof isn't expected to be completed until the end of next year, hence why Notre Dame is not expected to be open for the Olympics

Edouard Philippe, in his new book, suggested that he disagreed with Emmanuel Macron's decision to rebuild Notre Dame identically to how it was before the fire. He said had he been president, he would have persisted with the architectural competition.

Huh, that actually surprises me. Philippe being from a real political party and having on-the-ground experience, I would have thought he'd be more likely to understand that this was a terrible galaxy-brained idea.

In other news, I passed by Notre Dame on Saturday, and the progress is pretty evident now. There's now a scaffolding tower on the site of the spire, which I hadn't seen previously. Work is evidently underway on the spire now.

So reopening celebrations will be taking place from December 8, 2024 to June 8, 2025:

Schedule for Notre Dame Cathedral's grand reopening in December unveiled

After which, I assume it will resume its normal pre-fire schedule.
