I used plenty of GNU emacs at MIT "back in my day". According to an article in MIT's Technology Review magazine, "the world is indebted" to Stallman for his defense of software rights.

He said Steve Jobs had a "malign influence" on computing. He has expressed admiration for Julian Assange and Edward Snowden.

He has said he is "an atheist of Jewish ancestry" and wears an "Impeach God" button.

Stallman resigned from MIT and the Free Software Foundation in September after an email exchange that touched on Jeffrey Epstein.

Stallman endorsed Jill Stein for President in 2012 and 2016.

His activist career in free software is something to be highly regarded, but yeah his email exchange if not a false flag is disgusting.
