No matter the outcome, many things have been said by Conservative MPs to other Conservative MPs that cannot now be unsaid.

A lot of people are going to roll their eyes at this considering the fact that I don't live in the UK but I have to say that I have this weird feeling that Boris is going to hang on by a wider-than-would-be-expected margin.

It's the result I'm hoping for in either direction

Cos even if he wins with that margin he still loses

I could see Boris getting tossed. Just a hunch though.

Tim Montgomerie on Sky says that he thinks someone like Nadhim Zahawi would win a Tory Leadership election. What does everyone think of that?

Actually, my truly final final prediction is that Boris "wins" super narrowly: 182-177.

The result 211-148 in Johnson's favour.  Not really close, but not great for him...

PM wins 211-148, worse than Theresa May.

For contrast, Johnson got a lower percentage of the vote than May in 2018, Major vs Redwood, and Thatcher vs Heseltine.

I just can't see Johnson surviving without the support of 42% of his MPs.

That’s pretty bad. 30 votes going another away would have seen him lose.

Seriously, this might be just about the worst possible result from a Tory POV.

Great result. I hope he hangs on and the next few years are a car crash.

Here in the United States, when an incumbent only gets 58% in their primary, that's a sign of huge danger for the general election.

Good news for Labour, since you know BoJo would have even taken a victory of 1 to be a mandate to remain in office for as long as he likes, so this is a resounding victory from his perspective.

This isn't even the equivalent of an incumbent only getting 58% in their primary because this wasn't a members' vote. This is the equivalent of 22 GOP Senators voting to convict Trump in 2019, or 21 GOP Senators voting to convict him in 2021.

And you know that even in those circumstances he wouldn't have quit. Just like BoJo now.....

Just a really terrible, awkward situation for Tory MPs on both sides of the divide. Amazing stuff!

Starmer now saying the Tories have “hitched themselves to … everything he represents”.
