How did we get to a point where the likes of Hancock and Williamson were allowed to be Ministers? Surely they are facing the sack in the next reshuffle?

They were important in Johnson's leadership campaign. Hancock dropped out to support him, while Williamson is a huge force in the Parliamentary Party having been Chief Whip and ran the leadership campaign. That's why they were appointed.

There have been rumours about their sacking, but they may just be demoted in order to keep them on side. Tories turn quickly and Johnson loves a yes man.

Very much impressed that Hancock found time for an affair.

Would be the height of hilarity if Boris of all people sacked him.

Yep he's a horndog

Strikes me as exactly the kind of guy who works with the young female intern for "extra technology classes" and ignores the top brass. But then again that's what all of his boss's former employers say about Johnson.

If he wasn’t health Secretary I could understand it a bit more but good luck to the Government if they need to impose or delay restrictions- Hancock should be sacked for this alone.

So, Matt Hancock is having an affair...

Oh, 2021, you are so, so drunk.

Number 10 says Hancock has apologised and "the matter is closed".

I'm sure that will have the desired effect.......

That's been obvious for a while - plenty of footage demonstrating wandering eyes of the sort usually associated with teenage boys or Italians.

Rod Liddle has written one of the stupidest articles I have ever read, in which he suggests Labour's result of 1.6% in Chesham & Amersham shows Starmer is even less popular than Corbyn in the south; and that Labour "will be lucky to come third" in Batley & Spen.

He might not be wrong in his broader assessment, though. Still a horrific creep nonetheless.

You could see how the continuity SDP would be reasonable for someone like me, but unfortunately he's in it. Kelvin Mackenzie might be too, as well as a whole bunch of trashy ex-UKIP types who want everywhere to be ruled from London.

But then again that's what all of his boss's former employers say about Johnson.

Matt Hancock hasn't fathered five illegitimate children, to be fair to him. (I do think he should resign though).

Am I the only one who gets very annoyed by the endless claims on twitter.com that every bad piece of news a.k.a.  the Hancock story is actually an elaborate dead cat strategy?

And with that we are back down to only two (known) horndogs in government: Boris and Dilyn.

The metaphor is so overused it's a cliché, to be sure, but the basic observation is still sound: the Tories will never be held to account by a complacent and codependent media.

Tinfoil Hat O’Clock: Johnson decided to get rid of Hancock after Cummings’ gave his evidence, but needed a way to lever him out without it looking like it was caused by Cummings, so the government leaked the 18 certificate CCTV camera footage.

Any thoughts on who is appointed as Health Secretary?

From what I've heard, the Secretary of State for Justice, Robert Buckland is a prime candidate (his change to prison rules apparently reduced infection rates amongst the incarcerated, so maybe that's where the rumour is coming from?).

Nadhim Zahawi, the Minister for COVID Vaccine Deployment is also brought up as a candidate, but given some of the medical stock he owns there could be conflict of interest issues (although that now seems trivial in the face of Hancock's actions).

Sajid Javid is also apparently in the mix. Javid was working on social care reform as Chancellor before resigned, and seems to want to get back on the front benches, so it’s definitely possible…

Tbh, I do understand Johnson picking Javid.

He’s outside government, so it prevents a broader reshuffle (which Johnson seems to want to avoid).

Also, Javid resigned because he disagreed with the plans Cummings had for control of the Treasury. Rehiring him let’s Johnson thumb his nose at Cummings, now that he’s persona non grata

Occam's Razor sort of dictates that its simply a member or several of the Health Ministry's staff that have an axe to grind with one of their more incompetent leaders in recent memory, and that the fact that Cummings exposed him yet he still got away with it because he's a Loxbridge arsewipe just angered them further.

I mean, I imagine a lot of the public sector now feel utter contempt towards these clowns.

It's the Department of Health rather than the Health Ministry, but your point might be valid. Ironically, I once temped for that organisation...

Horrible, but posted here just so there's absolutely no uncertainty or confusion as to certain things from young American lefties who often believe what they're told uncritically...
