BoJo seems to have thrown Trump under the bus. Which is something.

Cummings actually, according to reports.

If Johnson goes down, I can’t imagine anyone would really want to hold a title as cursed as the Conservative’s Leader.

A person who couldn't otherwise have a good chance at winning the premiership within the remaining window of their political career would go for it and there are several of those in the Tory Party.

Poor foreign policy. Trump holds grudges and may be back in four years' time.

I mean there's no guarantee that Boris is still there in four years time!

Last night, a man who once dressed as a chicken resigned from Johnson's backroom staff. This was *very important* according to wildly excited lobby journalists, though they didn't really say why.

And the man who replaced him was at the Daily Mail responsible for the infamous "enemies of the people" headline.

Hoping that England-Scotland in the Euro's next year can go ahead with fans, etc, if the vaccine gets distributed. Something to hope for.

Don't have an ounce of Scottish blood in me (at least don't think so, but vaguely possible) but I actually got emotional watching that shoot out and the reactions.

The story (no doubt backed by his not at all doctored blog entries) is that he planned all along to go at the end of this year. Which doesn't really tally with various other things that have gone on.

All that political capital wasted over Barnard Castle just to keep him around for 7 more months.

He's gone with immediate effect. Perhaps he had an eyesight test.

I don't know what's funnier the fact that so many of his outlandish projects & battles are now shelved (his defence review, his quest to sack every single civil servant & his project to piss off every eldery tory) or the fact that some many Tories think that Boris is now going to transform into some of different character whose on top of the details & is going to bring the country together.

I haven't seen it discussed but this does make it marginally easier to do a big reshuffle in the Spring; but every suffering Government has talk of a big reshuffle which often ends up as a failure.

I'm not sure it does.

Firing Cummings means that Tory MPs have a reason to like Johnson. That disappears as soon as he has a reshuffle and has to let somebody down.

Yes, this looks even odder given what has now happened.

https://metro.co.uk/2020/11/13/jacob-rees-mogg-blamed-for-excluding-mp-with-cancer-from-debate-on-illness-13587642/

Quote
Commons leader Jacob Rees-Mogg has been slammed after a Tory MP with breast cancer wasn’t allowed to join a debate on the illness.

Current Commons rules prevented former sports minister Tracey Crouch from participating in a Westminster Hall debate on the future of breast cancer services and the impact of Covid-19 on diagnosing the disease.

Ms Crouch, who announced she had cancer in June and is currently shielding, urged the Commons leader to apologise and change the rules to let members who cannot travel to the chamber contribute remotely.

Speaking to the Commons via videolink, she slammed Mr Rees-Mogg for suggesting that MPs working from home are ‘shirking’ their duties.

But he held his ground, saying there is a ‘careful balance’ to be struck and insisting that scrutiny of legislation is best done in person. A host of MPs have now taken to Twitter to angrily criticise the Commons Leader for his unwavering stance on the matter.

The coming week is the crunch for any "deal" to be reached with the EU before the end of year lapse of the UK's "transition". You do wonder if the events of the past week were connected with that.
