We need to develop a shield or something that will deflect an asteroid that is gonna come eventually,  it's long overdue and a missile shield was being discussed but never implemented

I welcome the asteroid at this point.

JFC, this is beyond satire. The US Military really is a pathetic, overfunded parody of its once-great self.

So, they stole their insignia from Star Trek and the "guardian" designation from the Marvel universe?

Seems like the U.S. Space Force is complete fanwankery. When they start to buy Crew Dragon capsules from SpaceX they'll probably call them "Star Destroyers" too.

This post of mine still remains relevant, perhaps even more so.

It's a shame they didn't go with Spacemen, which Steve Carrell had already dubbed them as.

Would've been too derivative and gendered.

Gender inclusivity is very important.  Cheesy

Ok, so obviously the name for enlisted Space Force personnel should be ‘Rocketeer’, in the same vein as Sailor and Airman.

I prefer we use Star Wars terminology when it comes to military ranks in the Space Force.

To be fair, there's a pretty well-regarded SF series from the late Scottish SF author Ian M. Banks called the Culture, so it's at least possible it's clueless SF-fan in-joke rather than racist dog-whistle. (I mean, on the one hand, everything  about SpaceForce! is an in-joke for science-fiction fans. On the other hand, Trump administration.)

The Space Force is officially better at ‘Call of Duty’ than the other branches
Quote
Friday’s transatlantic Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War tournament pit eight teams from the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, and Marine Corps, along with the British Army, Royal Navy, and Royal Air Force, against each other.

Each team was captained by a civilian gamer and popular streamer who offered guidance and tips to players in real-time as they vied for the top spot. (If you want to watch the Space Force team claw its way to victory, the full stream from the tournament can be viewed at the bottom of this article.)

The tournament was put on by the Call of Duty Endowment, which has placed more than 77,000 veterans into full-time jobs since its inception in 2009. This year alone, the endowment placed 11,000 veterans in jobs amidst the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
