Could be worse for a cover in an other language, at least from my French point of view.

Also a more recent version of him singing it, not bad, but made in a kind of 'lounge-jazzy' ambiance that robs a bit the energy of the song I find, that makes it kinda 'inoffensive' while it was a very energetic appeal to something new, though, due to the time that passed since, that's normal too:
