Still Guy Clark... Desperadoes Waiting on a Train. A song about the man "who was kinda like my grandfather, and he was really my grandmother's boyfriend".

From the time that I could walk he'd take me with him
To a bar called the Green Frog Cafe
And there'd be old men with beer guts and dominoes
Lyin' about their lives while they played
(3rd verse)

Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart

In the same vein i'm listening to 'Town called Malice' by The Jam

That reminds me, I was gonna download a whole load of Jam tunes today. Legally, of course. Hehe. Ahem.

Oh, and this one is one for that "songs you're ashamed to like" or whatever it's called thread we had recently...it's so corny:

I Still Sing The Old Songs
By David Allan Coe

GRANDPA, I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT YOU LATELY
WONDERING IF YOU'D FOUND PEACE OF MIND
I GUESS YOU'D BE PROUD TO KNOW YOUR GRANDSONS
NEVER CROSSED THAT MASON-DIXON LINE

AND I STILL SING THE OLD SONGS THAT YOU TAUGHT ME
AND I STILL PRAY TO JESUS NOW AND THEN
AND JUST LIKE YOU I WISH THAT HE WOULD SAVE ME
TO SEE THE DAY THE SOUTH WILL RISE AGAIN

DADDY WORE HIS PURPLE HEART SO PROUDLY
LONG BEFORE I TURNED INTO A MAN
BURIED WITH OUR FLAG ACROSS HIS CASKET
I WAS STILL TOO YOUNG TO UNDERSTAND

MAMA SPENT HER LAST YEARS IN THE GARDEN
WHILE I TOOK MY TURN BEHIND THE GUN
LORD, I'D GIVE MY LIFE TO FIND THE FREEDOM
LOST WITHIN THE OLD SONGS THAT YOU SUNG

AND I STILL SING THE OLD SONGS THAT YOU TAUGHT ME
AND I STILL PRAY TO JESUS NOW AND THEN
AND JUST LIKE YOU I WISH THAT HE WOULD SAVE ME
TO SEE THE DAY THE SOUTH WILL RISE AGAIN

Not just did Coe spend his 20s in a rather more honorable profession than soldiering - that of habitual criminal - but he AIN'T NO SOUTHERNER. He was born and raised in Akron Ohio.

Hank Williams, Banks of the Old Pontchartrain. Next up, Nanci Griffith, Banks of Old Lake Pontchartrain, and no, it's a completely different song.

I'm not a big fan of 80s Genesis (see one of my previous posts), but that video definitely rocks.

Wait a second... do you know Lee Buddha? Tocotronic? Frau Doktor? Die Aeronauten? (okay, they're Swiss. Damn. Strike that reference.)

I know Tocotronic, or rather I've heard "Freiburg v3.0 (Miss Kittin remix)", which is a crackin' tune. Die Aeronauten rings a bell, even if they are Swiss. Don't know the others though.

Genesis - Watcher Of The Skies

From when they were good, ie. before Peter Gabriel left and they became a cheesy stadium rock band.

Good choice Tongue

Selling  England... is my favorite album from them. great band.

I agree, in fact most of the piano collections are excellent. Btw, do you have the FF7: Reunion tracks?

Oh, and "Selling England By The Pound" is definitely the best Gabriel-era Genesis album. Should there ever be a vote for the forum member with the best taste in music my vote shall go your way... actually, that gives me an idea for a new thread. Smiley
