Possibly someone who voted for McCain out of respect for his military service in Vietnam and his "maverick" status, which he enjoyed throughout most of his political career. That person subsequently switched to Obama in 2012 because they were repelled by Romney's economic platform and background (his infamous "47 percent" comment and his association with Bain Capital), and by some of his other comments (i.e. "his binders full of women" remark).

Of course, we have a McCain-Obama voter on this forum, Fuzzy Bear, and I know that he voted for McCain due to his experience and veteran status.

White working class voters in Ohio counties like Scioto, Pike, Lawrence, Ross, Gallia, Trumbull etc who were interested by Palin's message  and found McCain likeable but were turned off by what they saw as Romney's plutocratic politics.

Obama did increase is majority among gay voters in 2012.  I’m assuming his endorsement of same-sex marriage helped with that, along with perhaps the successful DADT repeal.

There were probably a good number of these voters in NJ/NY because of Obama's handling of Hurricane Sandy.

#Populists in Coal county Oklahoma who massively voted for Kerry in 2004 but hated Obama in 2008 only to slightly comeback in 2012 because Romney was an elitist out of touch Mormon.

Christie hugging Obama was as close to an endorsement as you could get as a President from a different party.

I know at least one woman who did this because she was a die-hard Hillary supporter in 2008.

Lots of Hillary 08 democrats. A few newspapers in North Carolina that endorsed McCain flipped to Obama in 2012.

Two groups immediately come to mind: Staten Island and Latinos in South Florida.
