He is the youngest elected official in the United States, elected to the Montana House of Representatives (D-Havre) in 2016 at age 18.  He is too young to serve in the US Senate and probably nonviable for the gubernatorial race because of his age and lack of experience, but he looks like someone to watch for the future as Daines is obviously favored to keep his Senate seat this cycle.  I could also see him as a candidate for a US House seat, especially with Montana gaining one after the next Census.  Thoughts?

He’s from Havre (like Tester) and going to MSU-Northern. It helps that MT is a small state where knocking on doors can (unironically) get you very far and one of only four states where the state legislature doesn’t meat annually but only every other year, so there’s no shortage of Dems who were about his age when they won their first state legislative race (Mike Cooney was 22, Jesse Laslovich 20, Jack Uhde 18). Hilariously enough, his 2018 opponent (a Republican-leaning Independent who was inducted in the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame) was four times his age.

I think he’s pretty much your generic MT liberal, so I’m not sure what exactly would make him a particularly appealing statewide candidate, although his 2016 win was pretty impressive (he beat the incumbent Republican in an Obama +1/Trump +19 district, although Tester won it with 57% in 2018).

Definitely getting a Dean Cain vibe from him.
