I'm kind of torn. What happened to this guy was horrific and I realize that non-Americans and younger posters probably aren't too familiar with the story so it's great a movie is being made. But I'm worried that since Clint Eastwood made it it'll be a big attack on the media as "fake news" and trying to draw a ridiculous comparison between him and Trump.

I'll definitely watch it at some point somehow, but this winter there are so many films I want to see and only so much time.. Star Wars 9, 1917, Little Women, Bombshell, Portrait Of A Lady On Fire, A Hidden Life, Knives Out, Uncut Gems, and then I have to also make Netflix time for Marriage Story, The Two Popes, I Lost My Body, Atlantics, El Camino and American Factory.

I actually didn't know about this movie until this thread, but yes, I will. I lived in Atlanta in 1996 and remember this incident vividly. My brother's friend's dad was Richard Jewell's lawyer, so at minimum I'll be curious to see who plays him.

Yeah, it looks like it could be a good movie and what happened to Jewell was horrible.  That said, the reviews suggest Eastwood and the screenwriter did exactly what BRTD was worried about by making up a subplot - which, I should add, by all accounts has no basis in reality - where one of the reporters covering the story sleeps with the lead FBI agent to get information.  So it's like the media and FBI are in bed together as they screw over an overweight, heroic white guy Roll Eyes

I'll definitely watch it at some point somehow, but this winter there are so many films I want to see and only so much time.. Knives Out was fun, but how much you like it will depend largely on how familiar you are and how much you enjoy the Agatha Christie-type murder mysteries since it's basically a hilarious parody of that whole sub-genre and its tropes with some spot-on social commentary about paternalistic racism towards immigrants.

The problem with Bombshell is while I like an anti-Fox News movie I can't like one that makes Megyn Kelly and Gretchen Carlson look good.

Megyn Kelly doesn’t deserve any praise since she basically waited until it was clear that Ailes was going down no matter what, but Gretchen Carlson showed incredible courage by coming forward.  What she did was heroic, for lack of a better word.  Whatever else you wanna say about her - and you can say a lot - that was a precursor to the #MeToo movement and there was no guarantee anything would happen beyond her career being destroyed.  Hopefully it won’t be an anti-Fox movie so much as an anti-sex predator/anti-coverup movie.

Clint Eastwood certainly has a talent for taking a true story and inventing new villains for the plucky lead to have to face.  Remember in Sully where around half the movie was the dastardly NTSB grilling our national hero on why he had to crash a $100 million plane into a river?

Chair-talking right winger or not, I have always had a soft spot for Clint Eastwood, mostly as an actor though. The films he directs are hit and miss for me and the more recent ones seem to mostly be oriented towards entertaining old white people and appealing to their sensibilities. This might be one of those examples, but if it isn't editorialized too much, and ends up getting good enough reaction to it, I may give it a chance when it gets released to a cable movie channel or something. It's especially in an interesting area when it comes to a potential agenda, since the real-life perpetrator was an anti-abortion, anti-gay, right wing fanatic. One of many in that time period. So maybe it will be more measured than we think.

I will give him a lot of credit though for being able to direct a new film almost every year, especially for his age.
