No sweet potato pie option!?

Actually, I don't eat that, but I know that it is often compared to pumpkin pie and preferred to it by some.

At my Thanksgiving feasts we always have pumpkin pie and sometimes apple too.

A plate with Cool Whip. Just Cool Whip. Nothing else. Maybe a little pumpkin pie if I'm feelin' a tad bit risky.

Gotta have both Pecan and Pumpkin, or it all feels so empty.

I do love pecan, but Thanksgiving feels incomplete without pumpkin or a nice apple crumb

Apple pie above all, but I like a good pumpkin pie too. Not a fan of pecan.

I don't celebrate it, but I like pecan pie and that's what my dad cooks for Christmas so that.

Pecan pie>>>all other pies

Pumpkin out of those two.  My favorite is probably apple or cherry.

My family usually just does pumpkin pie but this year we're having both. I think this is the first time I will have tried pecan.

Is it me or do pumpkin and apple pie seem to be more northern things while pecan pie is a southern thing?

Is it me or do pumpkin and apple pie seem to be more Yankee things while pecan pie is a southern thing?

Yes.  The Thanksgiving dessert debate is just another American food regionalism.

Pecans are native to the Southeastern U.S. and there's evidence pecan pie might have been invented in New Orleans during its French colonial days.  The origins of pumpkin pie are either Colonial New England or Canada, and Southerners actively resisted pumpkin pie and other Yankee Thanksgiving traditions after the civil war.  This tension lives on today as most Southerners call the dish most resembling pumpkin pie "sweet potato pie".
