A mid-day shower thought.  Traditionally, gay men have been more victimized by homophobic attitudes for the perceived ick factor by straight people, whereas lesbianism tends to factor less into these attitudes or is even sexualized in a "positive" (read: perverse) manner.  For that reason, I can see a female presidential candidate's homosexuality being less of a hurdle than a male candidate's, Pete Buttigieg's current rise in the polls notwithstanding.

I might have to agree with you here. Lesbians tend to be generally "sexier" to a general audience than gay men are.

No.  Women already have a hard time getting elected why would being a lesbian be better than a gay man.  Buttigieg is doing better than most of the female candidates and he was a virtual unknown 6 months ago.

There is a theory that straight men find lesbians to be sexy and attractive whereas they feel icky about gay men. But I think our society has grown out of that stereotype, so I'll agree with you and say no, the only people who object to the thought of a gay man as President would be just as likely to object to lesbians.

The fetishization of lesbians by straight men =/= acceptance of lesbianism by straight men, so no, obviously not.

Of course. People are more accepting of female sexuality in the absence of men.

Pete has the personality of expired oatmeal and was the mayor of a mid sized city yet is polling absurdly well given all of that + his sexuality. I don’t think any lesbian with those conditions could’ve accomplished that in this country.

This is a no brainer.

Yes, Tammy Baldwin would have an easier time if Biden loses in 2020, than Pete Buttigieg had in 2020; however, Newsom and/or Joe Kennedy loom in 2024 and 2028

No. A lesbian would have a more difficult time, simply by virtue of being a woman.
